I hope they both saw Carlito's Way, and reevaluated how great it is. Even DePalma says he couldn't make a better film, so was surprised people seemed to dislike it before ever seeing it, calling it a bad attempt to remake Scarface, or that Pacino shouldn't be playing Puerto Rican, etc.. Also a little sad to hear Siskel say he wondered what he'd want to tell his unborn children if he knew he was going to die. And he had that chance just five years later, so I wonder if he did in any way.
CW can be seen as a spiritual sequel to Scarface but unlike that film, it transcends it's material. De Palma crafted a moving, complex drama about society as a whole.
@@richg4189 Siskel was right about Carlito's girlfriend. The character was a tiresome cliche but everything else ? He couldn't be further off the mark.
I remember seeing My Life on a date and found it to be trite and boring. Around this period Michael Keaton also did Clean and Sober, another snoozefest.
Lol. It looks like most people commented and/or watched this mainly for Calitos Way like me. It seems like whenever I disagree with one of these guys it's more vehemently against Siskel. Maybe I have disagreed with him more. There are both opinionated but it's just something about Gene. He seemed more uptight about certain things, like Carlitos Way was glorifying violence. Actually it shows some of thd negativity of the lifestyle and it's exciting because it's a film.
"Jamon Jamon" is really good, funny and definitely sexy, I had to put it on my 10 best list of that year...it's got a lot to offer to those who'd be willing to try something different out...plus, you get to see the beginning of the careers of future Oscar winners Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem...👍🏿⭐⭐⭐⭐
Please people, don't use the word "underrated," it's overused on TH-cam, inaccurate in nearly all usages, and the rater is never mentioned. Like "inconceivable" it doesn't seem to mean what you think it means.
I looked at Sean Penn and I immediately said, "Hey, it's Ken Rosenberg!"
Bingo
Kind of eerie listening to Siskel's reaction to My Life considering he only had a few years to live himself.
Obviously he had no idea then it was 1993 he died in 1999 he was perfectly healthy back in 93
"Would I want to make up with old enemies? I don't think I have that many." Yeah, I wonder if he made up with Roger, who seemed to be his frenemy.

Carlito's Way is De Palma's best film.
No, it is not🤣
@@irvingwashington8638 Yes, it is. Carlito's Way is a great film about the fundamental problem with society as a whole.
I think they disagreed on Carlitos Way. Lol. Siskel must have seen the movie in the dark

@@ricardocantoral7672 Yeah the stripper who wants to be something else is old. Totally agree
Oh Man, that was a nice week to go to the cinema.
Shoutout to Jane Campion my fellow New Zealander with the great film The Piano.

C Way is very good
The Piano 👍🌟🌟🌟🌟
My Life 👍🌟🌟🌟
I don't recognize the other films about women by the writer/director of _The Piano._ Too bad they didn't mention at least one of the titles.
I respect Siskel but couldn’t disagree more with his DePalma/Pacino reviews. Both films are in my top10

Three Musketeers is better than Robin Hood-but they both suck!
The disney version of The Three Musketeers is very under-rated
The Disney version of Carlito's Way is also underrated.
