7:10-7:16: Cricut is based in Utah. Is that right? I ask because California, as of July 2024, enacted a Right to Repair law. In part, it requires “… manufacturers of consumer electronic devices and appliances-from smartphones to dishwashers-to make repair guides, parts, and tools for those electronics available to product owners, service and repair facilities, and service dealers.” I am unsure how the law impacts businesses selling their products in California.
The cricuit expression I thought was a marvellous machine. You have to keep using it, even though you are slower at first. I now have a cricuit explore and it’s even better. I love it. It is so quick and easy. I sent the brother scan and cut back.
I'm new to your channel and immediately thought that you sound like my friend from South Africa. Then I discovered that yes, you are in South Africa. You even have her laugh. I've always loved her accent! Love it! I very much appreciate the honesty of your content. You are talking about things people are thinking but don't always know how to put it or know if it's just them having certain issues with the machine, consumables, and software. Thanks!
Very interesting Kelly, good to hear other crafters’ opinions and experiences. When I find some time I’d love to try out the other design software you mentioned… one of these fine days!! Always a treat when your gorgeous kitty makes an appearance! Thank you for sharing a great video. ❤😘
Hilarious! It was fun seeing this other side of you, and your kitty is beautiful. ❤ My biggest gripe is only having 5 1/2" of canvas space on which to work because I'm on a smaller laptop. It'd be nice if I could make the layers column narrower. Ugh!
I am amazed that you can talk and make a craft. Mine would be a mess! 😂 I just bought a silhouette because of the rubber wheels going bad on my maker. A known problem should automatically be fixed.
I bought my Cricut Maker rather than upgrading my Silhouette because of it’s more solid build and the noise. However, I much prefer Silhouette’s design store to Cricut’s design space. One shouldn’t have to pay for the extra features - per month after the hefty cost of the machine.
I have all the machine. Started with the little Cricut with carts. I have about 100 Cartridges. I have Silhouette’s and all the Cricut’s.My favorite is right now is the Cricut Joy Extra. I like it because you can make stickers with it. Uses 8 1/2 x 11 paper.
Hello Kelly. I have just started watching some of your tutorials and glad you get straight to the point. Also they are helpful and informative. I just wanted to put this out there as it upsets me. I found out that here in NZ there is a warehouse full of faulty Cricut machines that are destined for landfill because they can’t be shipped back to the USA. I’ve just seen so many posts from people with a reported fault and told by Cricut they’ll give a coupon and buy a new machine! These companies can’t keep polluting the environment like this. Surely these machines can be shipped to a place like South Africa to be fixed and leased out to people who aren’t so fortunate to buy a new machine? My mind boggles at the waste in these First World countries. I hope as an up and coming influencer you can help make a difference in this type of situation? I couldn’t believe what I was hearing from an employee here. I see more often then not that customers are being told “buy a new machine” 😡Also I’d love to know where I can get blades for a Cricut Cake machine? If anyone could manufacture a new style housing and blades for those the old Legacy machines I and many others could keep using their machines 😊
Oh it is definitely something that irks me too! I definitely will be trying to get them to change. I know a lot of places use old and deactivated machines for parts, it seems like a nice opportunity in your market for a business to open doing something like that! They could probably make a lot of money. But I will definitely be trying to make an impact, as small as it may be - it all helps us in the end!
@@KellyRossouw Thank goodness! Good on you if you make a difference going forward Kelly, Especially if you’re endorsing the product, I myself know that in some countries you don’t have the privilege or resources of just buying a replacement machine just because it has some small fault. Especially if it’s just rollers or a metal strips fallen off, Surely for that money your machine should be way more robust. I know people there make a plan to fix things, not many other choices. A repair/workshop could be something enthusiasts all rally together to help make it happen for the good of their machines and planet. Good luck with all your tutorials. 🤩
Hi. Thanks for the video. The thing I picked up last week is that there's now some features that I can't use because I don't have Cricut Access anymore. This left me feeling demotivated of using my machine.
I watched this video because I don't have a favorable opinion about Cricut. I purchased a Cricut Expression around 2008. I loved it even though I only had a few cartridges. I found a program called Sure Cuts Alot - SCAL, and with this program I could cut almost anything I found. Well Cricut desided to sue Make the Cut which did the same thing as SCAL. They won. These programs hooked the Expressions to computers with a printer cable and allowed you to design and cut things without a cartridge. Back then the cartridges cost 80 us dollars. I only purchase them when they were on sale for 50% off. Cricut did not even have a program that they were selling, you only had their cartridges to work with the machine. Because of SCAL I was using my Cricut more and would purchase their mats. After the suit I desided that I would not support Cricut. I worried about updating my firmware, because I was warned that the software would not work with the updated firmware. So over the years when I upgraded my cutting machines, I would not consider the Cricut for purchase. I now own a Silhouette 2 and a Brothers Scan and Cut. And I agree the Silhouette is noisy but effective. I have moved up from my paper cutters. I also own two lasers, a diode and a C02 laser. I was wondering about your accent. I studied The Great Trek when I was in college. I also read and taught my inner city middle schoolers about Trevor Noah's book Born a Crime. I loved his book. Be well! Thanks for sharing.
@KellyRossouw I never updated the firmware. So all these years later, I still use it. To not purchase mats, I learned how to reglue the mats with Aleanes Tack it Over glue. Now, good generic mats exist. I even ordered blade from Amazon. Now, with the Scan and Cut I have to bite the bullet and purchase their mats. The SnC mat has scan able dots, so the machine has to recognize the correct mat.
Hey Kelly, I love watching your videos. Thank you for all that you do... A couple of weeks ago I was using Design Space and clicked the Make It button. It then wouldn't let me 'make it' until I subscribed to Access. 🥴 I'm not sure what I was or wasn't doing, but yeah, I had to subscribe to move forward. I had imported multiple third party SVGs... Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Ah thank you so much for sharing the love! Strange. Did you use an element or font from Cricut Access? If you are 1000% sure you didnt, you can try restarting Design Space and sometimes it is just be a bug in the system! Maybe try contacting support to see if there was a problem?
I struggle with maizeys htv 🤦🏻♀️ I get lifting etc and I don't know how to sort it out. I'm using the craft express handheld press so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong 🤦🏻♀️😬 I have good results with the flock vinyl but the normal htv I'm always worried 😬
oh no! Maizeys is the absolute best out of everything ive used, but you have to use a very high pressure. Make sure you see the grain of the fabric through the vinyl :)
ROFL I love your Fred. Beautiful. I have a kitty-girl named Squirrel. I had a pet hamster in my early 20's named Fred. He was QUITE adventurous and unpredictable. 😉 lol Thank you for all your wise opinions. Agree on so much of it, in fact, I don't think I disagreed with anything. lol THANK you for all your great tips and suggestions of things to try. 😊
Regarding being able to export designs to other software, or even my computer - I often purchase png files from other sources and bring them into the Cricut software to work with. I feel I should be able to export those files anywhere I want to because they are not Cricut designs . But, once they go into the Cricut cloud I can’t use them anywhere else. If there is a way to export those designs to my computer I would love to know how. An example is that I also own a ScanNCut and I would like to be able to print the designs I create with the Cricut software on 12 x 12 cardstock and cut them on my ScanNCut.
Yes! Creative Fabrica is my favourite place to get external files from. Because of copyright issues you cant export them easily from Design Space. There are tutorials out there, but I wont make one on how to do this unfortunately. xx
I have a silhouette curio and a cricut maker and joy. My daughter finds the curio studio easy and intuitive. I find it has too much math. That's her thing not mine. I'd rather use the dummy proof cricut. I do prefer to create in other design programs and bring them into cricut. If the next iteration of cricut goes to all smart vinyl, I'm out, though. Horrible product.

Oh amaszing! The cartridges are useful, and you can load them onto your Design Space Profile through the customer care too which is useful! I cant wait to get a Joy Xtra!
Thanks so much for watching! 😄 Do you have an idea of a similar video I should make in the future?

Hey Kelly I enjoyed the trip around cape town having your lashes done. Thanks for sharing
Aah im so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much 🥰🥰

Thank you so much! I love sharing my crafting journey! 😊

haha a lot of the *concentration* parts are edited out where I cant speak and focus at the same time 🤣 (because man that would be a boring segment!)

You’re a riot! Love your videos!
haha thanks so much! Glad you appreciate it :D
Fredness!!! Soooo cute!!! Not sure when the world forgot that people are allowed to have their own opinions. But this video was awesome!!!
Hahaha its my favourite part 🤣 thank you so much 🤩🤩

I totally agree on using silhouette for print and cut
