I have to agree. I'm on note 5 64gb and it's the same thing with water protection. Eye scanner worthless. The rest is all software.

...LTE Cat.9, USB c, dual pixel F1.7, 3,500 mAh, narrower and lighter.
There are some differences but I don't think it is worth it if your in my boat. Not saying it's not a great phone but I don't think I am ready for an upgrade. LTE Cat 9 being what type of change (what will this do for me)?

Because more megapixels doesn't mean better quality. The low light performance of a camera is largely determined by the size of the pixels on the sensor. More pixels means smaller pixels which means worse low light performance. Less pixels means bigger pixels which means better low light performance.

To understand why you should never look at megapixel count, check this out:

This is a DSLR kit lens. It's a crappy cheap lens, but it's only so when compared to other DSLR lenses. It's an absolute giant (in size) compared to the lenses in a phone camera, and it costs far more, itself, than the phone camera sensor and lens put together.
Look at its properties: Benchmarked Sharpness is at 8 Megapixels. Which means that if you put this lens on a 5000$ camera, you will get crappy photos that in the end contain about 8 Megapixels of information, that is just stretched on a huge image. If you zoom in, you won't see individual pixels, but a blurry crappy image with very little detail.
Again, this is a large, relatively expensive (compared to phone camera lens) lens for a DSLR. And even THAT can't do 12 Megapixels properly.
Your phone.... regardless of what that phone is, will barely have 5 megapixels of useful information in the daylight even. At night it would fall down to basically 0.5 megapixels.
Never look at megapixels. Look at sensor size, and overall picture quality that people reveal in the reviews. Megapixels is just a useless number when it comes to phones.
One easy way to determine how good the camera is, is to just download around 100 random photos on your computer, calculate the average size of the photo file, then do the same with another phone's camera. The one with the bigger files will generally have better photos. At least the photos will contain more information. What's actually better photos is subjective, since a lot of people prefer high contrast photos with lots of information lost, just because of cognitive ease. But if you have a lot of information, you can then edit the photo in more ways, since you have the information to begin with. So if you don't want that high contrast, you can do that from a normal photo, and you can also do high contrast. You can't get a normal photo from a high contrast photo though. Info is lost forever.
Technically the pictures both phones take are the same height (in landscape orientation), the older 16mp camera has all of it's extra pixels in the width (16:9 ratio), while the newer 12mp camera is 4:3 ratio.
A lens creates a circular focal area... so technically a square (though boring in terms of composition) is the most efficient use of the collected light. The wider the aspect ratio, the more collected light is wasted above and below the image sensor, and the smaller the pixels have to be to fit into the same focal space. So moving back to a 4:3 ratio at 12mp is a loss of 25% pixel count, but a gain of the sensor being larger and detecting about 25% more of the light gathered by the lens, and each pixel is additionally larger in size because they're not tiny to fit a very wide horizontal pixel count, so the overall light performance is about half again greater with the 12mp sensor. The 12mp camera also has a wider aperture lens to help gather still more light... although wider apertures are more sensitive to accurate focus, which brings us to:
The dual-pixel autofocus in the 12mp sensor is 'god mode' for fast autofocus compared to any other autofocus currently used in smartphones. It's DSLR level pro camera tech.
Result: drastically faster and more accurate focus, and drastically better and more accurate light handling, and all they gave up was 25% picture width.
Also, 12mp is an ideal size for filming "4k" video, which has a resolution of just over 8mp at 16:9 aspect ratio, which fits neatly inside a 12mp 4:3 aspect ratio sensor letter-box style, with just a little extra sensor around the side edges to allow for image stabilization.
Given the size & shape of the cameras in smartphones, I think 4:3 ratio at around 12mp is going to quickly become a broadly recognized sweet spot of pixel density vs. pixel size and good light handling. At least until there is some major technological change to the equation. If someone makes a significantly more clever image sensor type which is much more sensitive and accurate, then that might warrant a significant increase in pixel count without painful sacrifices in zoomed-in image quality. I do think 4:3 ratio is a more wise aspect with any sensor tech though, just given how lenses work.
what about the fingerprint scanner (home button)? will you be able to unlock your screen even if it is turned off?

definitely disappointed with the note 7. held out from upgrading to s7 edge from my current note 5 because usually the note series approves upon the regular galaxy line (bigger battery, more ram, faster processor etc) but the note 7 doesn't seem to do that. just some new features to the spen, and the iris scanner i won't use. although i absolutely love the new and improved design, i will give it that. but idk if its enough to make me want to upgrade. ugh. i had high hopes (6gb of ram, 4000mh battery) :(

Is Samsung ever going to resolve why their phones get so warm to the touch. I have sample every note and notice they all seem to run hot. Although I am not an iPhone user, they don't seem to ever get very warm.

I wish we could choose a few of those software updates now. I'm digging the iris scanner and added protection for dust and water but I'm not sure it's worth the immediate upgrade. I still love my Note 5 more than any other phone I've had.

Can't decide to get the Note 5 or the Note 7. I won't use the SPen all that much, and waterproofing again isn't that important as I can just get a case if needed... I like big phones so the S7 is out of the question and the S7 Edge is out as the Edge just isn't for me...

I would go with the 7 as per the improvements. I have the Note 5 and am definitely looking forward to the improvements because they are going to be very practical for the note 5 user looking to get the newest Note phone.
