    Sir I have a question why garageband is not updating the time signatures section so that we can use other time signatures like 5/4 7/8 etc??? Will there be an update for time signatures in near future

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there. It would certainly be great if more time signatures were added. Not sure if they will add these in the future but hopefully will be considered in future versions.

    I figured this out along time ago except I don’t use drums. I use the Chinese Kit wooden block to imitate the metronome so I can create drum patterns as I’m actually recording a drum track. (Don’t want to play drums along with drums. That’s incredibly distracting.)
    Just hit the block harder on one and lighter on the rest of the beats.

    This is a great tip. I imagine, though, that this rules out the use of Drummer except when you revert back to one of the three standard time signatures, right? Or is there a way of tricking Drummer into playing along?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic

      Yeah, you sacrifice the use of Drummer and Apple Loops as they won't be on the grid and will not sound right.

    Dude… I swear you read my mind! I’ve been making sick songs in GarageBand but I want to use polymeters. Another thing I want to do is after 3 measures play… repeat them but increase it by a half semitone. Then do it again. I can do it in Reaper but I wish I could do this in GarageBand but it only increases by a single semitone.

    I have a 2 track song in 4/4 created with GarageBand drum loops & P Bass, I've since discovered the 2 bar turn back to the verse is in 3/4 (or 1 bar of 6/4) & not 4/4. I created a new song so I can copy the tracks over, can't figure out how to reduce the 2 bar turn back to 6 beats.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there my friend. Yes, once you have your song set up it can be very hard to adjust a time signature unfortunately. GarageBand is just not super flexible when it comes to this I’m afraid.

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there. Yeah, so 2/4 is not too bad as it at least lines up with 4/4. What I do in that case is basically set up the song at half time so each 4/4 bar actually spans two bars. Then when you want a 2/4 bar you just throw in a single bar.

    Hi friend!
    I'm trying to write a composition of mine in GarageBand, but..., I don't know how to change time signature!
    For example, my song has a part A with 16 bars. This part has a 4 group of bars, and each group of 4 bars is like this: Bar 1= 4/4, Bar 2= 5/4, bars 3 and 4 ar 4/4.
    Ok, Can I write this kind of time changes in the GarageBand?
    I understood your explanation in the video, but the problem is the parts! In my song of the example above, tge part A (16 bars) has 17 beats x 4, right ? The total number of beats are 68!
    Maybe it works if I record everything in a Part! Am I right?
    Thank you friend!!!!!!!!!
    best for you,
    Manuel

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there Manuel.
      Yes, GarageBand has limited functionality when it comes to this. What I have needed to do in other songs is basically manually record my own metronome using a drum kit so I can then turn off the metronome and play along to my own beat.
      It means you lose the grid functionality somewhat but it worked in a song I did which has different parts in 4/4, 3/4 and 5/4. It won’t however work if you have a tempo change as well.

    I’m having a problem when I import samples from TH-cam. I try to find the tempo of them and for a couple bars it will be on time and later on in the song it goes off? I think the solution to the problem would be to have your tempo in decimals but it isn’t available in GarageBand. What do I do?

    • @PeteJohnsMusic
      @PeteJohnsMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah GarageBand only supports whole number BPM so not great for this sort of thing.

    • @CravenMoorehead123
