Thank you. I’ve watched a lot of your videos trying to figure this program out. Brilliant simple solution for my strange song writing. I have no idea why my mind makes me play guitar the way it does but this will be enormously helpful. Cheers to you guys on the other side of the pond
12/8?...Just got myself an ipad, and was gutted to find out that drums are limited regarding time signatures. Sort it out apple! Thank you so much for your videos, I'm learning a great deal from them. Keep up the great work.👍🏻
Sir I have a question why garageband is not updating the time signatures section so that we can use other time signatures like 5/4 7/8 etc??? Will there be an update for time signatures in near future
Hi there. It would certainly be great if more time signatures were added. Not sure if they will add these in the future but hopefully will be considered in future versions.
i actually discovered it a long time ago..that when I go to the input option for a microphone, I pressed the inter-app buttom and pressed instruments. From there, you can use your metronome app from your ios device..Hope this helpss thankkss pete
I figured this out along time ago except I don’t use drums. I use the Chinese Kit wooden block to imitate the metronome so I can create drum patterns as I’m actually recording a drum track. (Don’t want to play drums along with drums. That’s incredibly distracting.) Just hit the block harder on one and lighter on the rest of the beats.
Haha! I think I tried this trick once. The math definitely threw me for a loop (pun intended)! I'll need to try again some day. Thanks again for yet another useful video. Cheers.
This is a great tip. I imagine, though, that this rules out the use of Drummer except when you revert back to one of the three standard time signatures, right? Or is there a way of tricking Drummer into playing along?
Hello Pete. Thank you for your videos because you are the only youtuber who can answer to my specific questions. These about multiple signatures is uneasy to understand…but I hope to get it…You speak very speedy for my English…! The traduction is approximative…If possible a little slowly when it is difficult. Thank you !
Thanks my friend. Yes, I have started slowing my speech slightly on more recent videos. You can also use this option in TH-cam - th-cam.com/video/x7fQ5-y-y_s/w-d-xo.html&feature=shares
Dude… I swear you read my mind! I’ve been making sick songs in GarageBand but I want to use polymeters. Another thing I want to do is after 3 measures play… repeat them but increase it by a half semitone. Then do it again. I can do it in Reaper but I wish I could do this in GarageBand but it only increases by a single semitone.
Thank you so much! All your videos extremely helpful! Question: I have a song 50 bars 6/8 and then 4/4 30 bars .... how to get them together in one piece? (Merge?)
I have a 2 track song in 4/4 created with GarageBand drum loops & P Bass, I've since discovered the 2 bar turn back to the verse is in 3/4 (or 1 bar of 6/4) & not 4/4. I created a new song so I can copy the tracks over, can't figure out how to reduce the 2 bar turn back to 6 beats.
Hey there my friend. Yes, once you have your song set up it can be very hard to adjust a time signature unfortunately. GarageBand is just not super flexible when it comes to this I’m afraid.
I did exatly the same but you cannot use the auto drummer by using this metronome trick because the autodrummer is limitated following the time signature you have set on garage band.
Not quite following sorry? Maybe ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group at createrecordreleaae.com, or the Discord group here - studiolivetoday.com/discord.
Hey there. Yeah, so 2/4 is not too bad as it at least lines up with 4/4. What I do in that case is basically set up the song at half time so each 4/4 bar actually spans two bars. Then when you want a 2/4 bar you just throw in a single bar.
Hi friend! I'm trying to write a composition of mine in GarageBand, but..., I don't know how to change time signature! For example, my song has a part A with 16 bars. This part has a 4 group of bars, and each group of 4 bars is like this: Bar 1= 4/4, Bar 2= 5/4, bars 3 and 4 ar 4/4. Ok, Can I write this kind of time changes in the GarageBand? I understood your explanation in the video, but the problem is the parts! In my song of the example above, tge part A (16 bars) has 17 beats x 4, right ? The total number of beats are 68! Maybe it works if I record everything in a Part! Am I right? Thank you friend!!!!!!!!! best for you, Manuel
Hey there Manuel. Yes, GarageBand has limited functionality when it comes to this. What I have needed to do in other songs is basically manually record my own metronome using a drum kit so I can then turn off the metronome and play along to my own beat. It means you lose the grid functionality somewhat but it worked in a song I did which has different parts in 4/4, 3/4 and 5/4. It won’t however work if you have a tempo change as well.
I’m having a problem when I import samples from TH-cam. I try to find the tempo of them and for a couple bars it will be on time and later on in the song it goes off? I think the solution to the problem would be to have your tempo in decimals but it isn’t available in GarageBand. What do I do?
So what’s your best suggestion for this problem because it’s really crucial as I import samples almost daily? Or is it just game over, nothing else I can do?
Thank you. I’ve watched a lot of your videos trying to figure this program out. Brilliant simple solution for my strange song writing. I have no idea why my mind makes me play guitar the way it does but this will be enormously helpful. Cheers to you guys on the other side of the pond
Haha! Love it Nicholas. My brain must be wired in a similar way then!!
Which pond?
I just built my first hackintosh, and I am loving GarageBand for Mac. It's a lot better than I expected it to be!
Yeah? Nice one. I’ve still never actually seen someone using a Hackintosh with GarageBand but very keen to.
Somehow, whenever I’m having some issue in garage band you always come in clutch. You’ve gained a new subscriber!
Nice! Glad to hear it my friend and thanks for your support.
I wanted to do a 5/4 time for Holst’s Planets Mars suite so thank you Pete (and Dave Brubeck)
Love me some Dave Brubeck! I throw on "Time Out" at least once every month when I need to chill.
helped a lot thanks!

Try something like Auria Pro or Cubasis if you want more flexibility. th-cam.com/video/j4PJF1h975Y/w-d-xo.html

@@PeteJohnsMusic I used Soundbrenner..however I never used it in my songs hahahaha
Cool! Cheers for that.
Thanks! It let me record a metronome track for a 7/4 section. That’s a good, no cost metronome as well.

Yeah, you sacrifice the use of Drummer and Apple Loops as they won't be on the grid and will not sound right.
This is clever thanks for the tips Pete.
Cheers George. You’re welcome and thanks for your support as always. 👍

Yeah. Maybe check out the new Logic Pro for iPad which has excellent mixed meter support.
I need a piece only in 2/4, how would I do that?
You'll just need to use 4/4 and record two bars per bar.
What about a song that has the time signature of 2/4 with a tempo of 210bpm
4/4 with 105 tempo?
@@PeteJohnsMusic ok thx
Helped Allot 🙏🏻🙌🏻😊

How would one go about doing a track in 13/8 or any kind of compound meter?
To be honest? Use Logic Pro for iPad these days. Http://logicipad.com/.

This can be done on Mac OS version of GarageBand too??
GarageBand Mac has even more options I believe?
How about 2/4. I have a song that sneaks in a 1 measure of 2/4.

How do I do 6/4?
You’ll just need to use 4/4 and create your own custom click track.

Yeah GarageBand only supports whole number BPM so not great for this sort of thing.
So what’s your best suggestion for this problem because it’s really crucial as I import samples almost daily? Or is it just game over, nothing else I can do?
How can you do this on the macbook version? ^..^
Hey there. My recommendation is OBS, which is free open source software that can help you record your screen, webcam, audio inputs etc.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Excellent! Thank you so much! I'll be very interested to see how it works! ^..^
Yes. I've been meaning to do a tutorial on it for PC. I'm sure there's one out there somewhere for Mac?
How about 2/2??
That’s really just 4/4 so just use that with half the beats. 👍😎
How do u change the tempo
This video should help - th-cam.com/video/zTnibS5wlDg/w-d-xo.html
How to add multiple tempos?
Not possible. Well, sort of possible but you need to use multiple projects and then stitch them together.
Yes...i do the same BUT as a pro music production software this is not pro music production software design, sorry GARAGEBAND .
There are limitations... but sometimes limitation helps creation!
man why cant they just add custom time signatures into garageband :/
Would be cool!!
