I've heard that everyone's art styles reflect a part of them (when they draw people obviously). I can really see that in your art and I love it! I think my art style also does, eventhough I don't really like it, I find a lot of my drawings look a bit like me 😅💕💕
This was such a nice video to watch! Thank you for sharing more of your story! I am starting to seriously look into my art as a business and not just a hobby and have so much anxiety about making that change. It's nice to know that other artists have had similar experiences to what I'm currently going through and really helps me not to spiral into a hole! Thanks again and I look forward to more of your stories!
I am so glad you are enjoying your art journey! I believe that artists starting in today’s markets have so many options for learning that just did not exist when I started my art journey. I enjoy watching your videos and wish you only the very best! Take care and be safe out there!
thanks for the advise about freelanceing, some really good points you made, im currently working on becomeing a freelance artist and videos like this help me believe i can do it ! Nice one :)
I just love your thumbnails, like, they're so adorbs and gorgeous! Also your pin-up board is satisfying to the eyes! Lovely sketches! Hope you continue sketching 💞
Thank you so much for talking about this, it gives me hope! I had a similar art school experience except I stayed stuck in that mindset bc it took me two years to even get in. So 2 years of just going through the motions and feeling uninspired. Taking 21 Draw classes with you has been more helpful than much of my college career 😅
This was a great video to watch! It was really helpful and made lots of points I hadn't thought of. I still don't know what I want to do when I finish school but now I feel like a career as an artist could be a possibility. Thanks for this video! :)
Your art journey is so interesting and inspiring! Thanks so much for sharing it with us 😄 I'm incredibly grateful you persisted and then persisted some more because now so much of your incredible artwork is in the world!
This was a great video, it is very inspiring. I love that you showed that there are many different ways to make a living as an artist no matter where you are. Thank you for that!
Back 3 years ago, I had a morning class and a night class. I didn’t pass either class because I had to go to the hospital for a week due to my mental health, and the teachers didn’t give me additional time to finish the projects I had missed, and I fell behind on all the following projects. I haven’t been back because I got a job, too. But I do hope to go back to school soon!
I have been struggling with my art already so long and I think it's so annoying. I always draw 3 till 5 days and then I stop for like 3 months. When I draw I struggle a lot! I can't find my art style and when I look at other artist I think I will never be like them. I personally would love to start digital art or just animation on paper. But all my stuff I see that I've drawn is realistic art because I also think that's what I can do the best. But I actually want to try something else then only realistic. Not a while a go I set op for myself a challenge. I decided to draw every day a drawing of an artist I love. And still at this time I can't find what I really want. I could start digital art but I don't have a laptop or anything like that, only my phone. I tried to draw on my phone, but I just can't. So I am trying out art on paper wich I am again struggling with it a lot. I try to draw references but they always turn out pretty bad (in my opinion). I don't call myself an artist yet because I don't have an art style, or I just don't know I have it, but haven't found it yet. I wish my improvemt could go faster so I can find my art style faster. I also don't get much motivation very quickly, school makes me lazy wich is why I almost never draw anymore. In class I draw random things, but nothing that I call ,,wauw" or smt. I know I can do this, but I just got to find a way to find how I can motivate myself. I mostly watch yt videos and after watching it I am like "omg yes!" But the point is, I watch those kind of videos mostly in the night and then I can't draw because I am supposed to sleep. Your videos inspire me a lot, and the motivation comes to me, now I just have to put it on paper.
thank you! I'm glad! I'm still learning about the taxes part. I document everything in an excel sheet, expenses and earnings. I also make sure to keep all of my receipts. When I get my taxes done, I always ask questions if I'm unsure about anything! My tax guy says doing what I'm doing by keeping track of everything and making sure I set at least 25% of my earnings aside is perfect!
I want to be a writer, but being a freelance artist is interesting to me. I think I've said this before in one of your other videos, but maybe someday I'll make this type of video.

Your little thumbnails are always so cute! Idek what freelance means. 😂 good job Erika!
Thank you! Freelancing is earning a living through multiple sources of income rather than from a single job! I hope that helps!

I'm from Louisville as well and I feel your pain on the lack of options in education
Your art is amazing!!
Thank you for this video! It’s really helpful💕 could you explain how you learned the taxes part of freelancing?

The sad thing is that the new instagram algorithm is not good for artist growth.
