    I recently revisited the Curl Maker and I remember it clumping my hair better about 2 years ago. Idk if it's reformulated but it really gives the shingled look and doesn't seem to create the same cast.

    I tried the gel and leave in together years ago and regretted it. It was flake city! And I had an important event that I had to go to with all those flakes. I learned then to NEVER try a new product before an important event.

      😖 that’s terrible. I had a feeling during the application of the leave-in that this was not going to work out. I plan on trying some of their other products with the Curl Maker to see how that works.

      I had the same experience. I tried the Curl maker first by itself and it dried white on my hair, then I tried it with the honey leave in because my hair loves that leave in, the moisture was there but again it dried white on my hair. So I gave it one last try with the curl love but that gave me the same dry, white results. I have since thrown away the Curl maker and Curl love and am iffy about trying anymore Camille rose products because so far the only ones that worked was the algae renew DC and the honey leave in.

    Thank you for doing this combo! I have found it easier for me to work with the Curl Maker vs Curly Magic. I also do not like the Camille Rose Curl Love leave in and use the Kinky Curly leave in under the Curl Maker instead. No flaking for me. And literally your hair looks good with everything you use! 😊

  • @thingsilove18
    @thingsilove18 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Yea the leave-in is ok to me. I've never used it for a wash n go though. It also doesn't fully absorb into my hair. I kinda see it sitting on top of my hair and for that I've never paired it with the curl maker because I know the curl maker will flake if you use too much and not enough water with it. Butttt, I do like the curl maker. Much better than the UFD actually. And its great underneath the Doux mousse def. You can get more or less hold based on how much of the gel you use under the mousse. And that combo doesn't flake for me.

    • @BrittanyMia
      @BrittanyMia  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I’ve heard people like the curl maker better than the curly magic as a base gel. I’ll be testing that out in the future. Thanks for sharing this combo!

    • @thingsilove18
      @thingsilove18 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BrittanyMia Also, a tip for longer, firmer hold with the mousse def, try applying another layer of mousse after you have fully dried your hair. You can do it at some point during the week or as the last step on wash day. Don't wet the hair or anything. Just section your hair and apply more mousse, then let it dry (air or heat). It works like a dream, even though it's another step in the process.

    Ok! There was definitely a good amount of errors within the set! Personally, more water and less of the leave in is best! Although, most times I prefer to use it on its own as a base, then a foam or a gel with more hold over the top!
    Secondly, raking a lot slower, and with smaller sections, will allow the set to not have as much frizz, because the hair won't be over worked, and you can get a smoother and more clumped result!
    Lastly, the flaking definitely came from the AVEDA leave in! Its not formulated as a topper, and works best on CLEAN towel dried hair because it's a spray leave in conditioner!
    Overall, I'd definitely try the gel again either by its self, or with the mixed chicks leave in for added hydration!

    • @BrittanyMia
      @BrittanyMia  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for sharing your opinion. I personally won’t be using this leave in again. And I know for a fact that that’s where the flaking came from because I have tried the gel and the Aveda heat protectant since then, and had no flaking whatsoever. It was recommended to me as a heat protectant, and I have been using it that way with no problems outside of this specific Wash N’ Go.

    Hey! I’ve been watching your wash and go series and it’s been great!
    I watched your last video about breakage and what helped me is to apply the styling product all over my head on soaking wet hair and then rake instead of wetting in sections and then raking. I found I didn’t have to as much raking which reduced breakage.
    Keep up with the videos 💪🏾

    • @Theelevatedcorner
      @Theelevatedcorner ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. This works for me too. One thing my stylist taught me was after detangling with conditioner, to already have my hair set where I want it to be. So when I rinse out the conditioner I shouldn’t run my fingers through it because that disturbs the curls and then apply the styler all over (not in sections) and then rake it through where needed

    Your hair looks beautiful! I started using CRCM last winter after finding it on clearance along with the Honey Hydrate Leave-In. It was a game changer for my fine/thin hair. I realized creamy products were weighing down and frizzing my hair. These two together really gave me great definition with very little frizz. I have a medium tapered TWA. So I refresh it daily with water in the shower and sometimes add a bit more CM or both the CM and the Honey Hydrate. I finger detangle and smooth my strands mostly at the crown where it’s prone to frizz. I sometimes shingle the sides to enhance the tapered look. I love my results with these products and a generous amount of water, no spritzing, which I find useless for my hair. Sometimes I blow dry the excess water with no heat. I get a soft hold. No flakes! (I also use UFD Curly Magic w/ the Honey Hydrate and get similar results.)

    • @BrittanyMia
      @BrittanyMia  ปีที่แล้ว

      I want to try the Honey Hydrate, but the smell is soooo strong. I may try it in the future but I tried it years ago and I literally had to wash my hair the next day. I felt sick from the smell. Does that honey smell linger in your hair?

    • @jessicavi7
      @jessicavi7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No HH scent doesn’t linger. I like that HH warms in my hands a bit. It feels very moisturizing. I think it’s what cuts down the crunch of the gel. I don’t mind going a day or two without refreshing my hair bc it doesn’t look hella dusty. I think the CM has a really strong marshmallowy sweet scent also. I could not stand it at first and almost quit using it, which is why I was also using UFD. But over time I’ve gotten used to the scent and it doesn’t bother me now. Nose blind 😅. I’m glad I stuck it out. A little goes a long long way. I only use 2-3 pumps on my whole head.

    Your hair came out gorgeous, flakes and all. I can't wait for you to discover new combos that don't flake with Curl Maker and other base gel products. When you do your next Favorite Wash and Go Combos video, please show us the end result of the combos you are highlighting and let us know what you liked about it based on your experience.
    I would always use the Camille rose coconut water leave in and other cream like leave-ins (some light and some thick in consistency) and I have found that my hair does not absorb it well. It seems to sit on top of my hair and never absorb. I'm not sure if Im using it wrong or using too much but it doesn't absorb and leaves me with a lot, a lot of white product build up everywhere. 🤷‍♀I will try some suggestions from fellow subbies on this thread like trying it on soaking wet hair or even trying it on damp hair then wetting it.
    Just a few questions about your wash & go process: Are you thumb combing mostly to release tangles from you hair at first then using your fingers to to do a thorough detangling?When you finished styling the front of you hair, did you emerge your hair under the running shower water again to set or clump the curls before applying the heat protectant? Whatever you did, you did that! It seemed to provide even more definition, clumping, and/or eliminate frizz. Would love to know what you did. In your next video I would love to see the styling of the front of your hair and the full process before going under the dryer. Do you find a heat protectant to be necessary before going under the dryer. Do you just diffuse your hair as opposed to the hooded hair dryer? If so, do you prefer the hooded hair dryer?
    Loving your journey! Thank you for the videos! Merry Christmas!

    • @BrittanyMia
      @BrittanyMia  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good idea for the next favorite video. Thanks for sharing.
      I am thumb combing to release tangles, and that also helps with a thorough detangle with my fingers. The thumb combing was the main thing that I did, but I will also go in and rake a little bit if I need to but mostly separating. I did not emerge my hair underwater to clip my curls. I was upset that my camera overheated because this time I sectioned my bangs part out and styled it that way, which is why I think it looks better because it was intentional. I did the same things I usually do, which is applying product, and smoothing it into my hair and I used my thumbs as well as the praying hands method. I don’t think the heat protectant is 100% necessary but it makes me feel better. I prefer sitting under the hood dryer. I typically sit under the dryer for an hour and diffuse the rest.

    Other than the flakes the WnG looks great! I haven't used Curl Maker in a long time, but if I remember correctly I used the Coconut Water Leave-in. I don't have the time or patience for flakes so I always test a new product combo before I put it in my hair to see if it will flake. If it doesn't pass the test, then it doesn't go in my hair.
    Just so you know, when you use the Aphrogee two-step follow the directions as stated or you will break your hair off. Once your hair hardens do absolutely nothing to it except rinse the Aphrogee out. I used to hold my hands up above my head as a barrier between the water pressure and my hair until some water hit my hair and started to soften it.

That combo is what is causing your flakes/pellets and frizz. Brilliant is also primarily used as a finishing oil when you're doing a blow out, not really for wash n gos. It sounds like you have low porosity hair. When I was low porosity my products worked better on damp hair. You might need to clarify your hair with a shampoo that has chelating in it to remove build up and hard water. Then it might absorb products better.
      Clarify hair every week for maybe the first 1-3 weeks of washes(depends on when the last time you clarify if it’s been a while like months than 2-3 weeks) and then return to moisture shampoo and clarify once a month. Make sure you deep condition afterwards(DC with heat will be better) and please detangle hair before using clarifying shampoos. I suggest TPH honey fresh aloe Vera clarifying shampoo. It’s a reasonable price. Also, Ouai detox shampoo, but it’s expensive. I hope that works for you.

      @@Neesha242 my hair is fine and it doesn’t take any time for my hair to absorb water and it dries very fast so I thought it high porosity. I wash my hair every 1-4 days and I clarify every three washes. I had been using Mielle exfoliating clarifying shampoo to clarify but I actually went to ultra yesterday looking for a higher grade shampoo to clarify with. I have never washed my hair before i detangled it. I leaned my very first wash after a 2 month protective style that that was a no no

    Im actually afraid to use gel all over my head. The only times I've used it is before my second big chop when I would slick my back in to a puff.

    • @BrittanyMia
      @BrittanyMia  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely understand, because I was afraid to use gel all over my head for years! I only started using gel all over my head when I big chopped. I decided to give it a try and see how it worked out because the idea of using gel all over was really wild to me. Especially the wet line and eco-stylers. It made no sense. But for the botanical gels and the serum-like gels it’s making a lot more sense because it’s a lot softer of a hold and a lot more moisturizing.
