My husband has never allowed me to fix his plate even when we were dating. He always makes sure my kids and I ate first. So when asked that question I always say my kids based off of my household. Everybody does and says what works for them in my opinion.
People have to label everything, I’ve been married 20 years and I don’t even know if I submit or not. All I know is I love and respect my husband and so does he. We’re best friends and that’s it. We don’t listen to all these rules, we just love each other and here we are 20 years later 🤷🏾♀️

Great topic/discussion! I agree and believe when it comes down to it, some do not understand what submission is and how it is to show up in a marriage/relationship. For me, I see submission not that of control nor one sided and I think that is where the disconnect is.

Absolutely! I couldn't agree with you more. As you said, the concept of submission is not one sided. For me, when we are in relationships each partner is responsible to contribute to the health/growth of the relationship, which therefore means we are both equally submitting to one another.
But most men unhook the word from its Biblical moorings and then it loses all meaning. Unless a man is a committed and active Christian who understands fully HIS responsibilities re: wifely submission, then he's got no business asking for it.

Children are important, but you can't forget about each other. My parents are a good example of this. And they have been married forever and demonstrated a healthy relationship for me.
I’m glad you bring the word into these conversations because in Genesis 3:16 it says “Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy pain and thy conception; in pain thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee” Meaning that part of the curse for the sin of disobeying God women are going to want to rule over there husbands so that is why many struggle with that.

Submitting is a wonderful thing once God ordained the marriage. I am currently reading and studying the Proverbs 31 woman and it has changed my perception on what I thought marriage was. The word of God says that we were made for our husbands, and we were created to be a helper to our husbands. The husband was made to be the head of the home and also the provider. Yes the Proverbs 31 woman made money but she never “lord” it over her husband. I wish we as women would first get an understanding of what the word submission is be humble under the mighty hand of God, and then walk in it. It all depends on the other person definition of the word. In order for me to submit you have be a leader, provider and protector. Submission goes both ways and people don’t understand that.

I believe you were on point about biblical submission in marriage. If we read and meditate on the whole counsel of God in Ephesians 5:22-33 and 1Peter 3:1-7 there would not be any confusion. Submitting, submission and submissive are different things. Submitting means to submit; be loyal and understanding to each other needs . Submission is to yield in being in control;allowing someone or something to take control over you or something. Submissive means to shy away from saying what you really mean and not seeking to achieve your needs, but the opposite (towards your partner needs). Also, submissive could mean willing to submit orders or wishes of others by showing such inclination; characteristic of a slave or servant. Anyway, I'm okay by submitting to my husband even yielding at certain situations. Yet, there are boundaries. BTW, your hair looks bomb!!
First of all, I enjoyed the chatty video. With that being said the word submission is touchy. When my husband and I went to premarital counseling with my Pastor as well as a Psychiatrist we used the word Trust. You have to trust your partner and in order to trust your partner you must trust yourself. With Jeannie I think she had personal color issues which she discussed that steamed from being rejected by her father. But when she spoke her ignorance, she also spoke her truth, which was that she found dark skinned men attractive. And that they were the secret desires of her heart. So change is often us coming into our own and trusting ourselves; loving ourselves. The natural hair journey isn't a person changing but simply coming into themselves and loving themselves for the way that God made them instead of forcing themselves to be someone or something they're not.
Everything you mentioned is facts. People only hear the submission part of the statement but the not completed statement which is that in turn the husband is to show the wife deep respect. Soitis a mutual thing you work at as spouses. The other thing is allow people to evolve and don’t hold them to a standard you wouldn’t want those closest to you to hold against you. Everyone has said or done something in the pass that you don’t want people to use against you today. People are quick to dig up receipts but let’s get a PI to dig up y’all past and post it online. I don't see myself ever submitting to a husband in the way Rayna described but honestly I love that it's worked out for her. I've seen my family and my partner's family go through hardships that could've been avoided if not for the "submission to the man as the head of the house", and he and I both agreed that we'd prefer a partnership with equal ground as co-heads of the house as opposed to one head and the helper of the head. And it follows from that I guess, that I don't agree with a man getting his food first for that reason when there's a child in the mix. My thing is, the Bible is and always has been framed in a misogynistic lens (see Judges for the story of the Levite and the concubine) and it seems nonsensical to me to apply those teachings on marriage to my life when we choose to discard other things (such as being impure during and shortly after our menses) for them being nonsensical in a modern world. But at the end of the day I guess it's for everyone to decide what their plan for their marriage is, and it's not to say that a marriage will fail because a woman doesn't submit, neither does it mean that a marriage will work because a woman does submit. With that being said: THE HAIR. THE BODY. THE *MOVEMENT*
Very well said. You’re so right the Bible was written by MEN for MEN during the times when we woman had no rights, no say, and no power. Hell the Bible even claims it’s a sin to eat pork like seriously 😆. We as woman in a marriage definitely should let the man be a man and take the lead but we shouldn’t have to “submit” to do it. @@cashcow4450 I also feel like my perspective is shaped by me living in the Caribbean all my life and watching how the scripture is twisted into something absolutely disgusting, to the point of using a lack of "submission" to justify or excuse away a husband murdering his GIRLFRIEND (not wife, yes you heard right). Additionally, if I've been making decisions for myself and living on my own and being the head of my household for several years prior to being married, which is pretty much the norm here at this point for us young women, it would not sit right with me if a man expected that I would settle into a role where I would "offer my opinion" but ultimately defer to his judgement. In my mind, my judgement is just as valid and should carry just as much weight. Again, maybe it's just how I grew up, watching my father's insistence on his way or the highway and my mother deferring because Christianity and their pre-Cana counselling said so, and his decisions literally destroyed our lives and their marriage, and put us into massive debt that we're still struggling to pay off over a decade later. And the funny thing is, if my mother had had equal say, we would 1000% be in a better place than the one we found ourselves in. Mayhaps to others my view is unChristian, and hey, maybe it is, but if the Christian view is something I would be unhappy and miserable doing, why would I do it?
Submission is a woman’s strength. It takes a lot of strength to be in FULL submission to your husband. I say full submission because a lot of us say we are submissive but only submit to the things we agree with. There are some who say “I only submit to God” but don’t know that God’s word says to submit in ALL things.

Can I just say I NEVER get tired of the Bernie Mac intro lol. I think a lot of people think being submissive is synonymous with being a doormat. I did too when I was younger but as I got older and began to see healthy romantic relationships, my mindset changed. I would absolutely submit to my man because I would only be in a committed relationship with someone who is deserving and that I could trust to be able to lead.
I use to have a hard time submitting to my husband at first. I was so stubborn and was like he don't even know where we going how am I going to submit to that, seriously. Submission is a beautiful thing! The part that a lot of women forget to mention is how they chose the wrong guy who doesn't deserve submission. The Bible is absolutely right in giving the man first ESPECIALLY if he is good and God fearing. He provides for the family and deserves some treatment. It doesn't mean the kids don't eat at all lol. I believe you were on point about biblical submission in marriage. If we read and meditate on the whole counsel of God in Ephesians 5:22-33 and 1Peter 3:1-7 there would not be any confusion. Women who are so against submitting are women who's never dated a real man and respected their man wholeheartedly. Once you got that, submission comes naturally.
Submitting, submission and submissive are different things. Submitting means to submit; be loyal and understanding to each other needs . Submission is to yield in being in control;allowing someone or something to take control over you or something. Submissive means to shy away from saying what you really mean and not seeking to achieve your needs, but the opposite (towards your partner needs). Also, submissive could mean willing to submit orders or wishes of others by showing such inclination; characteristic of a slave or servant. Anyway, I'm okay by submitting to my husband even yielding at certain situations. Yet, there are boundaries. BTW, your hair looks bomb!!
First of all, I enjoyed the chatty video. With that being said the word submission is touchy. When my husband and I went to premarital counseling with my Pastor as well as a Psychiatrist we used the word Trust. You have to trust your partner and in order to trust your partner you must trust yourself. With Jeannie I think she had personal color issues which she discussed that steamed from being rejected by her father. But when she spoke her ignorance, she also spoke her truth, which was that she found dark skinned men attractive. And that they were the secret desires of her heart. So change is often us coming into our own and trusting ourselves; loving ourselves. The natural hair journey isn't a person changing but simply coming into themselves and loving themselves for the way that God made them instead of forcing themselves to be someone or something they're not.
Everything you mentioned is facts. People only hear the submission part of the statement but the not completed statement which is that in turn the husband is to show the wife deep respect. Soitis a mutual thing you work at as spouses. The other thing is allow people to evolve and don’t hold them to a standard you wouldn’t want those closest to you to hold against you. Everyone has said or done something in the pass that you don’t want people to use against you today. People are quick to dig up receipts but let’s get a PI to dig up y’all past and post it online. I don't see myself ever submitting to a husband in the way Rayna described but honestly I love that it's worked out for her. I've seen my family and my partner's family go through hardships that could've been avoided if not for the "submission to the man as the head of the house", and he and I both agreed that we'd prefer a partnership with equal ground as co-heads of the house as opposed to one head and the helper of the head. And it follows from that I guess, that I don't agree with a man getting his food first for that reason when there's a child in the mix. My thing is, the Bible is and always has been framed in a misogynistic lens (see Judges for the story of the Levite and the concubine) and it seems nonsensical to me to apply those teachings on marriage to my life when we choose to discard other things (such as being impure during and shortly after our menses) for them being nonsensical in a modern world. But at the end of the day I guess it's for everyone to decide what their plan for their marriage is, and it's not to say that a marriage will fail because a woman doesn't submit, neither does it mean that a marriage will work because a woman does submit. With that being said: THE HAIR. THE BODY. THE *MOVEMENT*
Very well said. You’re so right the Bible was written by MEN for MEN during the times when we woman had no rights, no say, and no power. Hell the Bible even claims it’s a sin to eat pork like seriously 😆. We as woman in a marriage definitely should let the man be a man and take the lead but we shouldn’t have to “submit” to do it. I’ve never cared for that word, to me submit is what you’d tell a dog to do or someone you consider lesser than you to follow and obey orders with out input or question, and we woman are not dogs or lesser beings than men so submission just seems so outdated and frankly sexist as hell.
@@cashcow4450 I also feel like my perspective is shaped by me living in the Caribbean all my life and watching how the scripture is twisted into something absolutely disgusting, to the point of using a lack of "submission" to justify or excuse away a husband murdering his GIRLFRIEND (not wife, yes you heard right). Additionally, if I've been making decisions for myself and living on my own and being the head of my household for several years prior to being married, which is pretty much the norm here at this point for us young women, it would not sit right with me if a man expected that I would settle into a role where I would "offer my opinion" but ultimately defer to his judgement. In my mind, my judgement is just as valid and should carry just as much weight. Again, maybe it's just how I grew up, watching my father's insistence on his way or the highway and my mother deferring because Christianity and their pre-Cana counselling said so, and his decisions literally destroyed our lives and their marriage, and put us into massive debt that we're still struggling to pay off over a decade later. And the funny thing is, if my mother had had equal say, we would 1000% be in a better place than the one we found ourselves in. Mayhaps to others my view is unChristian, and hey, maybe it is, but if the Christian view is something I would be unhappy and miserable doing, why would I do it?

Submission is a woman’s strength. It takes a lot of strength to be in FULL submission to your husband. I say full submission because a lot of us say we are submissive but only submit to the things we agree with. There are some who say “I only submit to God” but don’t know that God’s word says to submit in ALL things.

Can I just say I NEVER get tired of the Bernie Mac intro lol. I think a lot of people think being submissive is synonymous with being a doormat. I did too when I was younger but as I got older and began to see healthy romantic relationships, my mindset changed. I would absolutely submit to my man because I would only be in a committed relationship with someone who is deserving and that I could trust to be able to lead.

I use to have a hard time submitting to my husband at first. I was so stubborn and was like he don't even know where we going how am I going to submit to that, seriously. Lol I was always use to just making my own decisions, etc. I never honestly gave him a chance tbh. It wasn't until I began to really study the Word and truly understand. I looked at the word submission as something bad plus God had to help me be humble(and still does but I've gotten better)Submitting is not a bad thing
