I respectfully disagree. I think the show should have done him like the books did - ended his story ambigious. We know that in the books he's either dead or the gravedigger at the Quiet Isles (not confirmed but heavily inferred); he found rest either way, a way out of continous violence. Here, he just returned to his usual ways (back to violence).

If the show did get something right, I feel it was The Hound's arc as an anti-hero. Not perfect, but the notes they hit were all the right ones...one of the most satisfying character arcs.
Because he actually had a satisfying character arc with a good ending...every other character besides him got completely shit on in the final season, I would argue the hound was the only one that they finished well...completely lost without George's finished books
Absolutely he stole the show from a lot of really amazing players that's a feat right there. Was he an amateur actor? Going by a few things he said he, wasn't a really super known. I never heard of him here in the US but that doesn't mean he wasn't big in Europe or the UK.

The roadtrip with Arya and the Hound is like peak Game of Thrones for me. That was Season 4, which might be my favorite season in the entire series. It's between that or Season 3. Seasons 1 to 4 are masterpieces. Period.

This just appeared on suggested things on youtube and Scotti, you're right, Rory was a forestry student in the late 80s early 90s and worked with my dad, he'd spend many an evening at our house, clever, funny, talented, great singer, played guitar, harmonica and was making films even then....one of the most genuine and decent folk I've ever known. The boy did good!
I've met him at an event and he is one of the best people I have ever meet. Also as I walked off he shout out "Hey" and called me by name so I turned around and he went full hound on me by saying "F*** off you lanky C***!" Best moment of my life XD

A very fine actor. Has an intuitive sense about how and when to deliver a line, an action or interaction with another actor. I loved watching his scenes over and over.

One of the most interesting characters on the show (and books). Martin did an amazing job putting this guy together and they could not have picked a better actor to bring him to life. So many shades of awesome. Love this character.

Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister, Jonathan Price as the High Sparrow, Jack Gleeson as Joffrey, Peter Dincklage as Tyrion, Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martel or Iwan Rheon as Ramsey Bolton all gave fantastic acting matching extremely well the characters. Then judging which is best is more a matter of preference than anything else.
Every scene with Rory was incredible. Him and Arya were the best of the 8 seasons.

There was parts with them that touched my soul deeply.
As a young girl, under the adult years, when I lived on the streets. Lots happened that weren't good but a man or two along my way and out of theirs, took care of me, fed me, kept me..safe.

Didn't like the hound at first but in the beginning you could tell he had a softness to him. Seeing how his character evolved into what it had become was superb acting.
Sandor had more feeling than anyone else. The man gave something that no one else did. The tough exterior was pushing back against emotions that could not be hidden. Well played, Rory.

The Hound has always been one of my favorite characters since the very first time I saw him and just grew on me more and more as the seasons went on.
It could never be another actor in this role. As he said, sometimes theres no acting required. Amazing job Rory!
The Hound was my favorite character. The Hound's story had the best arc. He had the best lines: "Make that two chickens." I still say this one almost every day. Brilliant actor, brilliant series.
