My father was in the 29th infantry division 1968..Was drafted at the age of 19 years old and was in Vietnam for 6 months only to be ambushed and shot 8 times ..earning him the purple heart,bronze star and other medals..he past away 3 years ago at age 67 with body infested with agent orange..He's a true war hero..I want to thank all who fought in this brutal war..my father told me stories and i couldnt even imagine... Cant thank the ones who fought enough..thank you thank you thank you...
As one of the South VN citizens thank you and your father as well as others fighters for our freedom.
My brother was a 19 yr old Marine stationed at Da Nang 1966-68. He had a bad back injury there. He died in 2006 at age 56. AND, he also had Agent Orange in his system after 37 years!

Lost? LOST? if you think that these American soldiers lost, you are lost. The govt. pulled them out. But they didn't lose. There is a big difference, they never lost one battle. The U.S. citizens and govt. Politicians did support the troops, everytime they fought and won a battle and gained ground,the politicians gave it back. And if you count body count, these soldiers are not losers. No soldiers in the history of the world, has ever been as victorious as the Vietnam veterans .
The only enemy they couldn't defeat was not the VC, they were killing them by the truckload. The enemy from within is what defeated US forces, the ones in the press, Washington DC, subversive groups. The story is still the same in 2020 with current conflicts.
@@ike.b.rowland7128 The soldiers didnt lose anything. Our pansy politicians and inaccurate media lost it. I fought in Iraq and it was more of the same. War is violent, ugly, and not politically correct and you have clueless politicians telling field commanders to fight it politically correct. That type of leadership's kills more US troops and civillians than if we we were allowed to fight the way we were trained too. Then you have the fucking media spreading false narratives about what is happening and this garbage gets to the politicians and they implement more rules that ties troops hands even more and again more troops die. If we just let the field commander fight the wars and keep the politicians out of making "rules" and have media blackout then we would have won Vietnam and Iraq in a fraction of the time that we were in both Countries and with less casualties. We use to refer to CNN as the Communist News Network because they only reported back to Americans the things that made troops look bad (some were accurate most werent) and not all the good that was being done.

@@cavscout62 He probably watched the news reports from the "enemies" within the US, Walter Cronkite and such at that time. They would've had you believe that we were wiped out and not the VC. The wonderful press, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
All of these videos were made by DASPO. Dept. of the Army Special Photographic Office. I was commander of the Panama Detachment. That was after two Vietnam tours.

People took comfort in knowing we had all this “high tech” stuff at our disposal... from aircraft to M-16s everything was cutting edge. And years later we think our current technology is invincible and Vietnam era stuff was crummy in comparison... I can only imagine how piss poor our “hi-tech” from this era will look to people in fifty years!
Bill Miller Oh I agree 100%! The tech never lives up to the hype... ironically the improvements are generally faster during wartime and yet they aren’t as well thought out, so you have high production with lower quality....
You might be right about the javelin but mortars aren't 24.000 dollars each round and artillery shells aren't 80.000 each even if they are GPS guided at those prices even america would find war unsustainable what's source did you get this from I'd like to see out of curiosity

Fortunately for us (USA/NATO) most of our current & esp potential rivals & enemies have & are No where NEAR as determined intelligent motivated & fanatical as the Vietnamese in 1960s or as the Afghans (historically) much less as the Japanese Imperial Army during WW2. Most nations pale greatly in comparison, thank God.

It seems silly to carry captured weapons back to just put on display but to destroy captured rice in the field rather than give it to the starving civilian population (who it was probably extorted from in the first place). I know it’s not usually practical to try to gather and transport materials back from the field, but since they took the weapons back in this instance I just thought it was incorrect priorities…

@@jordanberry508 That would depend if you think the Korean war was pointless, South Korea wouldn't exist. Many South Vietnamese had to flee, even more died in North Vietnamese "re-education" camps or were outright executed after the war. Now US-Vietnamese relations are good because they both hate China.

There is an excellent documentary called The Fog of War. Where he attempts to rationalize many of his viewpoints on that war and others. It's very interesting to try to understand his mindset in all of that.
@Josey Wilds I absolutely respect the men who answered their Nations call. So many of my family members were deeply scarred in that place. But with that said, there's a special place in hell for the men who sent them there. For no clear reason, other than to line their own pockets!

I was born in 66 and remember watching footage of this war on TV when I was little .All I remember is seeing children suffering it was horrible and has always stuck in my mind.
The media was good at portraying the worst of the war. Then again if the press were allowed as much access in WW2, I wonder if our country would have had a stomach for war.
