I have watched the Robocop video about how great it is in this compilation many times over the years, and I would love to see him go more in depth into this film, especially considering how relevant this film's satire is right now
I think you should do a series like this about the military. The way authority has been presented in our media for the last couple generations is the root of many of our current problems socially and politically.
I maintain that the one and only good part of the Robocop remake is the scene when Murphy asks to see what's actually left of himself, so they dismantle his robot parts until only the mangled head, single hand, a few vacuum-bagged internal organs remain. It was the one moment in which Joel Kinnamen sold me on the ghastly body horror of Murphy's situation.
That scene was great, though the fact that they kept Murphy's hand when the original movie threw it away always felt like the remake admitting it wasn't capable of matching the original.
@@Gigas0101 Apparently, in the novelization, the hand is actually explained. IIRC, if someone tries to shake Murphy's hand, as a thank you or whatever, they're less likely to be creeped out touching a flesh and blood hand, since that's what people are used to.
Good analysis, but I wish you could have mentioned how one of the most popular comic strips, Dick Tracy, was created by Chester Gould in the 1930s partially in disgust of gangsters like John Dillinger getting lionized in the media and he wanted the police to get a fictional hero of its own.
Dillinger, Bonnie & Clyde, and their bank-robbing contemporaries were being lionized for the same reason the cops were an easy target for comedy in the Keystone pictures: it was the Great Depression, a lot of people were out of work or otherwise poor, and it was a nice break from their misery to see someone stick it to The Man.
@@digitaljanus not just "sticking it to the man," but more specifically, the vicarious thrill of hearing about somebody robbing banks and getting away with it. Seeing the police chief dealing with said event by playing it off as ‘no big deal, happens everyday’ -that is what shakes ones faith in society. Imagining 2/3 Lt Van Buren’s police force shooting unarmed people and/or covering it up, spoils the whole premise. And seeing these really did make me question what is the exception and what is the rule for police violence/corruption, considering the media back patting of police.

16:12 yeah, I wonder when Hanks will go back to comedy. Probably when he's elderly.
Great.
When is Really That Good: Adam Sandler gonna be finished?
"Keystone" is probably a play on "Cornerstone"
A keystone is the uppermost stone in an arch, the ‘key stone’ that holds the arch together in place. A cornerstone, is, well, the corner of a foundation where two walls are joined. It’s usually the first stone laid, hence it’s use in metaphor.
That blanket not-holding-up on 80s ensemble slapstick comedies that showed young Gen Xers boobs doesn't include Airplane! and Top Secret!, does it? Tell me it doesn't, both because it means something dear to me is not good and because it means I am Gen X
I agree on Touched by an Angel.
I own both the TV series and the 80's movie re: DragNet. They're great for different reasons.
I like the 80s movie a lot, even still, but don't know how much of that is because I was 12 when it came out, so it was exactly the kind of Dragnet movie I wanted 😄. But it's in that weird category of movie that was a big hit in the moment, but kind of got forgotten just a few years later as Aykroyd's cachet faded and Hanks moved away from zany comedies, so it's not often considered a beloved comedy classic.
This was neat!
Imagine showing your face after being roasted to hell by the girl you’ve been stalking.
Counting down the minutes until I hear on Twitter and everywhere else that Bob has been me too for harassing women and creeping all over him acting like you're real good friends but you're not you secretly trying to get in that he's sick bastard
16:07 I thought he was the nephew.
Is keystone cops the reason why the police in the pirates of penzance exist?
FUCK THE ALGORITHM!!!!
56:53 - I agree that the original _Robocop_ 's Det. Lewis is super-awesome and one of the best sidekick characters ever because she so completely subverts so many tropes without anyone saying anything about it - just by being _her_ - you can't call Michael K. Williams "just a guy" - he's fuckin' _Omar_ dammit, show some respect! ;-)
tbh I haven't seen, and don't intend ever to see, this or any other thing called "Robocop" besides the actual _Robocop_ , so I don't know if he's any good in it.
It's almost like cops shouldn't be armed! minute point 55:45 ... The larger rhetoric is out there, I'm not in a nuanced mood.
just the facts mam was oringaly a dragnet parody.
PARDOY 😂😂
11 commerical breaks?! Fuck this, I'll wait till I get home and have an ad blocker up.
Damn you greedy, Bob!
Max sennett, my brotha.... or great uncle or whatever.

💖
Too many ad brakes. I can't trust such a purely capitalistic video.
Overboard with the fucking adds, Bob
I'm the opening manager at a local McDonald's, and whenever a police officer comes through the drive thru in the morning, I'll give them their coffee for free.
#IBackTheBadge
did u see the video of the cop who had a meltdown cuz they took too long with her coffee
that include the bad cops?
@@ranwolf76 Maybe they live in one of the half a dozen towns in the US that only have good cops.
Jesus bob give the TDS a rest
31:10 lmao I'm a millenial and I've never been inclined to watch those old ass tv shows and movies. yer background noise, Bob.
