    I was having trouble with cracked or dried out g when I would work faster and cover pieces with two layers of plastic wrap and a damp towel. What made the difference was when I started using Confectioners Choice brand CMC, tylose and meringue powder. What a difference! I only find the difficulties when the weather was hot and humid. A tool you didn’t mention that I use every time I make sugar flowers (and I can’t live without) is my color wheel! I am not sure if you would consider that a beginner tool. Knowing color theory is so important when it comes to making and arranging gum paste flowers

      Brand makes all the difference with making Gumpaste! If they ever stop selling Confectioners Choice I don’t know what I’ll do 😅 and I totally agree, colour wheel is another must have but I do think it’s a touch more advanced. Maybe an intermediate tool ☺️ hope you’ve been well Lisa!

      @@FinespunCakes I mentioned the color wheel because I use it a lot! Not just for sugar flowers, but for my alcohol ink pens and water colors when creating my graphic design pieces. Creativity is my life blood and would be lost without it. Your right about the color wheel being a bit more advanced. I went to school for visual communications and graphic design. I always loved to sculpt and create flowers with clay ❤️ Then I went back to the love of baking and decorating cakes. When I started binge watching your tutorials I said to myself, I can do this! I haven’t looked back! Thank you so much Alexandria! You have given me so many tips and tricks that help me stay happily engaged and sometimes I can’t stop! I had to take a break because I was having trouble standing or sitting for too long. Early June I had my second knee replacement. Crazy because I never thought I would need that type of surgery when I am only 45. Anyway, as soon as I am up on my feet I will get back to everything I love to create! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge 🌸🌹☺️❤️

      @@lisaanderson135 I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope you're back to creating soon!! I think all creative mediums help improve understanding of colour/form etc so if you're good at one you can translate those skills more easily into another. Hope to see some of your new flowers soon :) Take care.

    I have all the tools you mention and agree with the ones you rate in your top 10 but would have to add one more which is a giant air puffer for hygienically blowing off excess petal dust (I think ppl use them for cleaning camera equipment). The other really useful things which you usually have already at home are dessert spoons 🙂

      Hey Sandra, that's a great tool I also love! Will definitely add it to my must-have gel pastes and dusts video :) and yes! Spoons are so helpful!

    very useful video. Thank you . After making the flowers how do you store them. in hot, humid or cold weather. i find it a problem. For how long can you store .

    • @FinespunCakes
      @FinespunCakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Reshma, I store mine in cake boxes with padding to prevent them from shifting around. I think that same method would work in hotter conditions but you need to add silica gel packs to your boxes. I'd recommend storing the flowers in cool/dry areas. They will last many many months.

    Can you do a video on the powders you use to color the flowers? That’s the hardest thing for me to find and I don’t want to buy the wrong thing. Is Wiltons gum paste ok to practice with as well? I have the ingredients for your recipe, just wondering since I ended up buying the little tub while waiting for the ingredients to come in.

    • @FinespunCakes
      @FinespunCakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I am going to work on a must-have dusts and gels video. There are so many options, I totally agree. Wilton's gumpaste will make it more difficult to practice but you can absolutely still practice with it. Once you make your own gumpaste you'll find it much easier :)

    • @FinespunCakes
      @FinespunCakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Which gumpaste recipe did you use? That is definitely the reason why they aren't drying properly. If you used my recipe it is probably the brand of CMC/gum tragacanth used and/or your environment (if it's too humid).
