    Literally just had my entire septic system replaced last week. In the Western New York area. Nice new 1500 gallon tank, main line sent out about 100 feet to distribution box, into sand filter, 1 leach line run out another 120 feet with additional offshooting stone weep trenches to help keep yard drier due to silty soil. 10k. And around here that is reasonable. I know people who have gotten estimates for basically the same thing for as high as 14k. The system we had was nearly 70 yrs old. Leach line was a 4" perf pipe laid right out into soil. No surrounding stone. And dead ended in yard. In silty soil water has absolutely nowhere to go. Hence why our old tank, leach line, sand filter and main line was constantly completely filled with water.

    Great video. My father and I are down here in Lewis county and having systems installed. This video makes me feel better about the price we are paying for similar systems. I would have wanted to do the installation myself, but I don’t have the time to stumble through it. The learning curve and all. Time is money.

    Two questions: Trees & ice. With so many trees on this lot, in the areas where your pipes are laid, aren't you concerned about trees and roots reeking havoc on your system? And the depth is so shallow, aren't you concerned about your system freezing up in the winter? What are the guidelines you followed to avoid these kinds of issues?

      A mature oak can suck up and transpire 1,000 gallons of water a day. My leach field runs through a forest with dozens of oaks and hundreds of other trees close by. It’s been in operation 36 years without a glitch

    Nice install but expensive. Extra cost had to do with pressure system taking it out to 250'. But if you can afford it I believe that getting it away from house and main usable yard area is a plus. Great job.

    Does the sand on the side of the chambers not infiltrate through the slits on the side of the chambers and get into the run? This could prevent flow when the sand builds a mat layer and cause a potential failure (EDIT since this is a pressurized system the flow wouldn't be blocked but overall water holding capacity in the chamber could be effected. In a gravity the flow could be halted or hindered). In Western WA where I worked for 20 years, we don't put chambers in sand anymore cause they can settle down effectively blocking the line.

    • @DanielWoodell
      @DanielWoodell  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      mike cornell Well it’s not the designer that determines what type of system. The type of soil that’s on your property, Is what determines the type of system you have. In kit sap county homeowner is only allowed to install gravity drain so if your system is determined to be something different then you won’t be able to install yourself. I have worked with acne septic several times and I can’t speak highly enough about them they’re always booked up and a lot of the times they will refer you to somebody different however you should try really hard to have them be your septic and site development plan designers. I hope that helps.

    Hi Daniel, my name is Toni. I'm having a (40x52) inch Metal building put on a 7,500 square foot lot. I'm getting estimates from contractors as to approximately how much it is going to cost me for them to tie in the existing public water and sewer available close to my lot and pour a Concrete Slab that the Metal structure/ pole barn will sit on. They will have to pull the plumbing up through the Concrete for 2 full bathrooms and a Kitchen sink. Can you give me a approximate Cost that something like this should cost me. My lot and Metal pole barn combine together is only costing me $50,000 dollars and I was hoping to spend a lot less for this to be done. I really enjoyed looking at your video. I wish, I knew how to do this myself. I do have a licensed plumber who is going to install all of my fixtures. If you could just give me a approximate Cost of what you think this should cost me. I would appreciate it. Thanks.

      Those chambers carry the water lines a food above the bottom of the trench so they're full of air. When properly dosed the chambers are supposed to dry out which kills any roots.

    He had a friend dig the trenches 4ft wide and they are not level or deep enough. I spent all day with him trying to hand dig and fix them with a laser but we only got one out of five trenches done. Any help or advice would be much appreciated thanks.

      Daniel Woodell - So I’m LOOKING at buying a 2 acre parcel of land (in another state).
      QUESTION: How much AREA/SQ.FT. does a septic system like this take up on the land (meaning it’s unusable for anything else, right?)?
      Sorry if u already said & I missed it.
      My husband and I would’ve done something like this ourselves. We cleared our own land/built our own houses since we were 20. He was a brilliant Structural Engineer who knew other types of Engineers, but it’s just me now since his death (at only 38). 💔
      So it looks like I might just be S.O.L. (no pun intended) if County/City sewer isn’t available for the parcel I’m considering.😞

      Estimated savings about $7K, yes I would do it again. I’m always looking to save money, and I hate to pay someone to do something that I can do myself, I also try and figure out how long it will take me. I ended up spending a lot more time on this install than I thought I would, that was because it was the first install like this that I had done. A standard gravity drain system like the one in the link below would only take 3 days.

And did the guy who moved the back fill back onto the lines have his own company or just someone you knew? We don't have a tractor so we think much of the movement of dirt for us would need to be through rentals or hiring someone.

The guy that did the back fill is from Allen Shearer Trucking & Landscape Supply, Inc. They are also great!!! i have used them at least 5 times for land clearing dirt moving and septic installs. see below link. if you don't have experience with heavy equipment i don't recommend trying to rent equipment, you will be much happier hiring someone.

    I enjoyed watching this series even though it will never be useful in my life. Forgive my ignorance, but in both of your counties, are tract homes and smaller homes on small lots on sewer systems by code? I assume this system required a certain amount of acreage to install. Here on Long Island, the soil is very sandy. Typically its either cesspool ...small footprint, or a growing trend to sewer. If that setup was needed here, home prices would be unafforadable.

    • @DanielWoodell
      @DanielWoodell  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most cities that have sewer available require homeowners to use it, in your area. Both of our houses are out in the rural area. There are different types of systems that can be installed if the amount of land is not sufficient. On my house I was able to install a gravity drain system and it cost about $4,400, my brothers system is much more complicated.

    All of these comments about a septic system being Too Expensive!!😂😂 Lord... well how about you get out there and spend about 2months digging it up your self or come out thousands of dollars for equipment rentals, which you have to have liscense for to dig anymore nowadays, the time for seeking out all of the diffetent places to price, bargain and buying the materials.... Not to mention you must have surveyors, inspectors, line locators and permits, soil testers and health department involved....
    After installing you have to put the land Back the way it needs to be.
    And no ground is the same...what if he or she hit lime stone, have to take out trees.. DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO take ALL OF THAT out FOR FREE TOO..🤣🤣
    Hell a standard system here in Kentucky is 5,500... and of course all of that isnt going to materials...
    2, 000 of that is going into the pockets...and that's if they dont run into any landscaping problems...they might end up losing there ass on a job depending on the circumstance.....
    Thier profit is well deserved.
