Why does race matter when at the heart of it humans are pure consciousness? It just seems like such a low level of consciousness to even think about race.

Learned to survive truly, learned to trust and leaned deeper into my gratitude for what the playa/universe provides. 🪷 Hoping that the ending of disregard to the playa from some burners doesn’t ruin the opportunity of next year’s or all future Burning Man events. 🙏🏾✨
I wish I could afford to experience it just once 😞 it's ridiculously expensive. This isn't your typical camping trip to a state park. I've run the numbers this way and that. Unless i win the lottery or some long lost uncle wills me some funds there's just never going to be a way for me to afford it and that kind of makes me sad because it looks like a really beautiful and special place.
For $1,200 you're good to go, food, fuel, ticket and parking pass. I only live 4hrs from BM so if you have to travel across the country that'll be a bi6 more.

The renegade burn happened in 2021 when there was no official event due to COVID. People self organized and created a very successful event that was free to enter. Downside, there were no porta potties! Somehow people improvised and made it work and many list it as a favorite burn.

Can I ask why race matters? The human body is only a temporary experience. I see color as an illusion. I would think psychedelics would help people see this but maybe not. I would really love you to expand on this, Emily. I know you wrote this in good faith, so I am not intending any shade when I say this: The only folks who are able to see color as an illusion, by and large are those who this society is created to serve. To be "Colorblind" in 2024 is akin to spiritual bypassing. When YT folks trip they may risk a tap on the wrist, when Black folks trip in public, many are putting their lives on the line (regarding the possibility of running into law enforcement especially). Until all are treated equally, this is an unequal place to have experiences like journeying and Burning Man.
In the video we explore how BIPOC people are being kept out of these spaces. That is intentional, it doesn't happen by accident or coincidentally. If an event takes place in a country where the Black population is 14% and the Black population at Burning Man is less than 1% PLUS you have Black folks sharing microaggressions & feelings of being unwelcomed ~ it's important to put our listening ears on. That's why I made this film.
The fact that we have different backgrounds and lived experiences should be *CELEBRATED* and *EMBRACED* and that's what the medicine shows me. There's nothing wrong with being different from eachother and standing in solidarity with those differences. When BIPOC folks are reminded of our skin color every day, often to our detriment, it's really hard to get to a place of saying we're all just "pure consciousness" ~ because we don't have the privilege to look past that treatment. Many of us don’t have the luxury of seeing color as an illusion. As nice as not seeing it would be. When race is brought up people tend to put the burden of not seeing color on black folks. But the reality is this isn’t a scenario we created. When I was 15 I was attacked in a white neighborhood for buying comic books. When I was 16 I was falsely arrested and convicted. By the time I hit 17 I was followed in just about every store I entered, harassed by cops just sitting in front of my building. Went to college in VA had bottles thrown at me as they yelled nigger driving by. After college back in NY was put up against the wall and searched by cops at least twice a month. Still followed in stores, still denied taxi or cab rides even with my infant son strapped to my chest. The things we see and experience people think we misinterpret, we exaggerate, people undermine and tone down our experiences to make themselves feel better about society and how black folks are treated. With all I’ve experienced therapy was never an option, depression was never an option. Most non black people would have serious ptsd if they walked in my shoes growing up. But I’ve learned there’s good people & bad people in all walks of life.so I don’t judge anyone based off their color I base them off of their actions & words. But to teach my sons color isn’t a factor in this world would be setting them up for heartbreak, failure and even loss of life.

Renegade was the year of covid and brc didn't set up main camp. People showed up to party anyway. No burning man went down that year.
