I think Trump gives an outlet for their anger and disappointment. It seemed to me that he'd like to have those feelings that he stuck in his back pocket again, but needs permission to bring them out. Notice how he appears comfortable that space and how differently the Pastor and the other man speak. They don't call him an old coot and even accept his different view.

Well what they mean by that.... Is the GOP politicians has always had the same ideas as Trump they just hid it a lot better with euphemisms. So the GOP used to say "securing American jobs/border" Trump just came in with "Mexicans are rapists." Because he is too dumb and lazy to remember and use the euphemisms. So what has happened is some of the voters are coming around and realizing it and voting for Harris. Some of the voters do not want to admit to themselves, and especially other people, that they were duped by the euphemisms so they just use them for him by saying "he just tells you how it is" and then when he says something extra terrible "well he didn't actually MEAN THAT." Then there are some of the GOP voters who went WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCK YEAH TO HELL WITH THEM DIRTY ASS MEXICANS FINALLY SOMEONE IS OUT THERE SAYING IT....
Trump masterfully uses #hyperbole and repetition to get you to remember. It seems to be working with you. Much was written about Obama’s rhetorical skills, but Trump’s enemies persistently underestimate Donald’s gift with language. It is not easy to get 80 million votes.
I genuinely want psychologists and sociologists to figure out and explain wtf is wrong with these people and how things got like this and I really don't just mean that as an insult. I want to understand why a prospering America is going through the type of mass derangement and breakdown of rational discourse you'd only expect to see in a country experiencing a massive economic depression, being humiliated and occupied after losing a major war, or facing some other existential crisis. The numbers look good but the cancer keeps spreading. It doesn't make sense. WTF IS GOING ON?!
I think you need to start with challenging your assumptions about America’s prosperity. Prosperous for who? That’s the root of all of this, and it was caused by the abandonment of the working class. Many of these people have no prospects for affording homes, having well-paying jobs, or any kind of opportunity. That’s why this kind of populism is on the rise and it’s predictable.
@@scratchpenny This "economic anxiety" theory was heavily debated after the 2016 election and my recollection off the top of my head is that it just never panned out in the data and it wouldn't explain why he won the primary either. On the other hand, there were strong associations between measures of racial and gender animosity and support for Trump. More recently, the Jan 6 attackers and Tina Peters have been noted for being unusually well-to-do for serious criminals -- the _most_ violently deranged Trumpists actually turn out to have some of the _fewest_ economic anxieties. Personally, I suspect a big part of these trends is also just social media. The timeline roughly fits, the mechanics of a site like Twitter act as a very efficient tool to discover and optimize cultural grievance talking points, these sites bypass the sanity filters of traditional media such as editors, and suddenly there's now a mechanism for all the previously politically disengaged cranks of the world to get rowing in the same direction.
@@wfjhDUI Agree with you. Poverty doesn't generate this ( enough poor countries around to know...). It's a mixture related to information et education mostly. They say it : they don't trust the medias. Hard to blame them when you see what they became. Tv is unwatchable, hysteria and advertising bludgeoning in a loop. Add low education teaching you that you are the "best democracy in the world" instead of criticism, add gun violence, racism, dystopian urban environment, and now throw those people on social networks were algorithms push them deep into echo chambers. Make sure your public health stay unafordable to treat mental issues, and now, watch the result.
It’s simple, they’re all afraid of women. I’ll bet not one of them has a loving, plutonic relationship, based on trust compassion and caring about / with their spouse, girlfriend or partner. I’m betting that every one of them is a domineering control freak.
@@wfjhDUI I definitely think social media is the oxygen that perpetuates the increasing right-wing (and some types of left-wing) populism, but economics is likely the driving factor, just as it has been in virtually every American election. While there may be other factors, like some of those you mention, economics and economic-related issues (e.g., fuel prices, healthcare, etc.) regularly poll as the top concerns for most Americans. The post-COVID inflation was crippling for many Americans, especially in the areas of housing and food. When you look at median wages in this country relative to the rising cost of homes, you see that home ownership is not as viable for many as it once was. For example, the median yearly wage in the US is about $60k, but the median yearly wage needed to purchase a home is over $100k. Thus, things like that contribute to the discontent and drive toward populism. I mean, just look at how much the Republican Party's public positions have shifted with rising populism. They have been increasing their numbers of working-class voters for several cycles now. I do not doubt you are right that other factors play a role. It is all fear-based, and things like race and gender, and especially the rejection of social justice initiatives, also have a significant impact. But I still think economics is the driver. These problems won't go away with Trump's defeat. Unless federal and state policy drastically changes to support these "forgotten" people, the country is going to go through this or something worse every election cycle.
What I will never understand is how those people, who are mostly poor or struggling on the line of poverty, can think a man who grew up in wealth is like them? He most definitively is not. He doesn't even like them. He spurned them in his businesses time and time again. He swindles them with his endless merch schemes. He is only pretending to think like them. He is a con man, pure and simple.
What I still don't understand is why anyone in the working class would vote for either of those imperialists who clearly have nothing but contempt for the working class. America's ordinary people have no choices at all in this election other than third parties.

Donald Trump, someone who inherited hundreds of millions of dollars from his daddy being heralded as the spokesperson for the "average blue collar man" will always be hilariously ironic to me
It's because he pushed back against NAFTA, and was virtually the only politician to do so. That's the main reason why I like him. NAFTA caused over 1 million Americans to lose their jobs, and those Americans were ignored by the political establishment until Trump came along. Ask yourself: if the reason you lost your job was the result of establishment politicians like Bill Clinton and Joe Biden, would you not be a little pissed off? Especially after seeing financial institutions and their lobbyists receive massive payouts in the wake of the 2008, a disaster that those same financial institutions were responsible for. It's not fair to Americans, and if it requires someone like Trump to wake people up, so be it.
Who throughout his career screwed over actual blue collar workers, when he refused to pay them after his construction projects were completed, time and time again.
Kamala is a muti millionaire, Joe Biden hasn't done anything except be senile and get run out of office by his VP with zero primary votes. Tell me more about your Trump issues though.
My father was a blue collar worker climbing into machines and lifting heavy equipment for 54 years working for the same company. I don't know how much more of a man he could be but he would never have voted for Trump! He despised him. He had to travel all over the world with his job and he always said, "I can't unsee what I have seen." I see poor people and living conditions that you could not imagine. There are a lot of people who need financial help. Donald Trump could never relate to the average person. My dad had feelings and compassion for people. What is wrong with these men voting for Trump? It's frightening.
Single father of 4 children (3 girls) I work construction and there isn’t anything I can’t fix, not bragging, just saying I don’t understand how any “Man” can admire Trump. Promise he wears more makeup and hair products then all my daughters combined and probably has softer hands then them too. He whines and complains more then any woman I know, he stops his speeches to talk about his hair and favorite saying is “I’ll sue” that’s party of masculinity?!? Then they try to make fun of “tampon Tim”?… guess I’m the maxipad dad! Because a real man will take care of his daughters and any young woman that needs feminine hygiene products. No man should ever look up to this spoiled rich kid that’s never had to work for anything. Maybe if he’d come down out of his ivory tower he’d see America is still greatest country on earth and that’s why people want to come here!
These men are tired of being villans because a woman gets to choose to keep or kill a child but he now has 18 years to pay her for something that she didn't think he had any say in for 9 months but she can now have him locked up!! I guess women ain't doing so bad!!
The poorest Americans are still FAR more wealthy than average citizens of the world. The way to succeed in the USA is to work damn hard, to educate yourself, and be imminently wise and persevering. Those are largely foreign concepts to the Democrats.
I did similar work as a contractor and heavy equipment operator, so have done all kinds of macho stuff, and there is no way I'd vote for Trump. He's the polar opposite of a man, but likes to act macho. Remember when the Eagle on his desk flapped its wings ? he cowered like a wimp.

@chrisfoxart I'm an adult... I don't need a politician to care about me. I need a politician to fix the Biden/Harris mess, that Walz said was a serious problem.
Read about NAFTA and the millions of jobs that were lost. There's a reason why Ross Perot won nearly 20% of the vote in 1992. Many Republicans don't watch Fox news, but they do feel the effects of the terrible policies our political establishment has forced us to endure.
Why doesn't Trump ever talk about helping the United States unite? Why doesn't he ever talk about healthcare, getting our country out of debt, helping school loan debt, child care, the cost of food, why doesn't he have ANY REAL plan to unite our country? He only talks about himself or calls other people names to demonstrate his bottomless pit of self insecurities.

He's obviously intelligent and probably the best bet for president in the future (if not right now). What is it you don't like about him?
The way the guy at 4:36 just plainly admits that Republicans dismiss credible news out of hand is jarring to see. Also the misunderstanding of masculinity in this video is sad. It's ironic that they hate Walz when he is essentially everything they say a man should be. He's a hardworking average guy, no stock portfolio, rents his house, goes hunting, and his kids clearly love him. The cognitive dissonance is strong.
Yeah and Walz is a longtime member of THE MILITARY! They just can't stand it when a REAL MAN is there because it makes those whiny magas feel less masculine. And they are.
The problem is they don’t believe the media and that characterization. That statement was just a way for them to avoid the discussion. And because the established media has historically been known to fabricate and distort facts through narratives, that’s only going to increase. These people don’t trust any of it anymore, which is going to get worse and lead to further consequences and probably violence.
@@jcarey568 You're correct, evidence in a court case and a ruling equates to guilt. And wouldn't you know Trump has been found guilty in a criminal hush money case and a civil sexual assault case. None of the old definitions for political ideology are accurate today. @@scratchpenny You can't just reject a definition because you don't like it. It typically rejects democracy, promotes militarism, and enforces strict social hierarchies to maintain order." Using this definition, Trump indeed is a fascist. Fascist don't like to share the spotlight.
Sorry, the 1930s called, there's no such thing as a fascist anymore. Any comparison between a present-day figure and an actual 'fascist' is silly. It was a phenomenon unique to the interwar Europe that doesn't relate to 2024. Sorry. And Republicans who say Democrats 'are the real racists' are also morons. Guys like Victor Davis Hanson say this. It's dumb.
They don’t even make the connection because we are far too removed from what fascism is and what its consequences are. They think Trump is joking about all the things they don’t like and serious about all the things they like. Kinda like how you can cherry-pick the Bible if you’re a Christian, but you can throw it all away if you’re not that good at compartmentalizing reality.
I'm 73 and have seen a lot, and men are generally (not all) very dubious of women. I know some women deserve it, but a lot of men just automatically assume women are bad. Yes, some women behave in ways that end up demeaning all women, but so do men. In this particular situation Trump is one of the worst men I've ever observed. He's a total monster.
Your comment is silly. You don't sound much less misogynistic than the men in this video. One woman being silly or bad does not demean all women. But the problem is most men are bad and the good ones are a minority. We have learned this the hard way, but it is undeniably true.
Men have got to get over this "provide and protect" narrative. Most "providers" have wives with jobs and most "protectors" are away from their families most of the day. What else you got?
And even housewives work their rears off more than guys who "provide". I worked way, way less as a single woman and having a full-time job than when I was the stay-at-home mom of one child. If I knew how much it would take out of me I would have likely not done it but stayed working and single. It is a thankless job with no benefits, if the government wants women to have kids they are going to have to step up and provide serious benefits that make child-bearing attractive. Just taking away abortion is not going to cut it in the 21st Century

That’s why it is only increasing. Populism and nationalism is on the rise because the economic options are dwindling for so many. This is entirely predictable, and it will get worse.
@@jusletursoulglobaby I was speaking to "when you dont have options in life." That's an economic statement more than anything else. And you are right that it is the driver of all these problems. When a significant portion of our society doesn't have or "feel" like they have a viable path forward, it leads to the kind of populism and nationalism we are seeing. People close off and go back to base things, which is why the social justice ideas are outright rejected by this group as well.
@@scratchpenny I see. the context - tucking his feelings - is what happens when there are no options = emotional intelligence. it was about the physical/mental impact of turning off parts of yourself on overall health. not an economic statement.
@@jusletursoulglobaby I can see that, but I think the increase in the number of people like this is heavily impacted by external factors like economics. When under stress/duress, people often default to primitive " lizard brains" and traditional/base thinking. Thus, their capacity for emotional intelligence or openness is reduced. We see this kind of thing happening more and more in the West, which indicates that something external is, at least partly, driving it.

Isolationism from each other is not a good thing for anyone. It creates a vacuum in people's brains. Isolating ourselves creates an imagine in our own head what other people are like vs interacting with others by really talking, working and expressing ourselves directly with other people. Democrats should also consider the number of Black and Hispanic men that are supporting Trump. Also the gender divide between Gen Z men and women caused by influencers like Sneako and Andrew Tate.
Among Latino men, support for Trump is up to 50%. Among Black men, it's 25%. Among white men, who make up about a third of the electorate, it's 58%. Even a small slice of a massive number is a big number. Plus minority voting rates are lower. White male votes can wipe out minority male votes several times over.
Some men still continue to drag their knuckles, while real men have evolved. Those who want to continue dragging their knuckles, and being led around by the nose, should vote for Trump. But those real men that want to evolve, and be the head of their household and respect, women and their families, and actually protect democracy and freedom, we will be voting for Harris
Trump has a strong, loyal, really vocal base. But right now Harris has an enormous pop culture following that Trump can't match when it comes to numbers.

Here's some research: Comparative civilian deaths during war in built up areas:
An Associated Press investigation found that in the Battle of Mosul, of the >9,000 fatalities, between 42% and 60% were civilians.
Iraq Body Count from 20 March 2003 to 14 March 2013 indicate that of 174,000 casualties only 39,900 were combatants, resulting in a civilian casualty rate of 77%.
Nato in Kosovo: most conservative civilian death toll was 50%.
Ergo....
Israel is conducting this war in a completely normal fashion; and that's the worst case scenario, as its exemplary at best.
Also,
Look at how many innocent French civilians died in Normandy due to Allied action:
Bombing during the liberation of Normandy were especially devastating. The French historian Henri Amouroux in La Grande histoire des Français sous l’Occupation, says that 20,000 civilians were killed in Calvados department, 10,000 in Seine-Maritime, 14,800 in the Manche, 4,200 in the Orne, around 3,000 in the Eure. All together, that makes more than 50,000 killed.
Going by the lazy logic employed by far too many on the left, you'd call that action a g£n0c1d£, But it obviously wasn't.
It's just the nature of war and why some people should stop starting them in the first place.

None of the old definitions for political ideology are accurate today. We already live under elements of fascism with the way our corporations are entangled with government and the increasingly authoritarian politicians and government. So, these people feel like they don’t have much to lose. That sentiment is only increasing.

I can tell you that I am finding men less and less appealing all the time lately, since a majority are for Trump.
Are you equally suckered in by propaganda? Ignoring it is not innocence. Use my research or just let dangerous lies do what they were designed to do.

@@007kingifrit So how much bleach is in your body? He told you what to do during covid. You arent listening to him.
You think kamala could handle 3 hours with Rogan? Because SHE doesn't.!
@@daveisbrill So you know this how? You think she can't and she sits in senate meetings for 8 hrs plus grilling people. Especially putting facts into the argument. You are crazy if you think she couldn't.He cant handle her at a debate.
Great piece Guardian. Quick question, did you guys find it peculiar that the democrats at the end were talking about getting the colour vote out, but not one person in the audience that you had in the clip was of colour?
Apologies if I missed something there, but just found it odd.
I'll see if I can get a response from Oliver and Tom. I think they're out filming at the moment.
Hi again, so I asked Oliver and Tom and they said: Thanks for this question. The remarks were made by the president of the Ohio Democrats (so the head of the party across the entire state) - and she was talking about how the party is trying to mobilize voters across the whole state including in larger cities like Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton. Certainly Butler County (where Middletown is situated) is not as diverse as some of the other places she was talking about, and that was reflected in the meeting attendance, although our shots don't show the entire meeting, which was a little more diverse.
@@theGuardian Appreciate the response Guardian. Nice to get the context. Keep up the good work and take care out there.
"A woman president, how exciting?" ❤️❤️❤️
😂 I’m sorry but if you’re for Trump/Vance you need to go back and search your childhood memories 😂, sad but id say pretty accurate.
Save your tears for your therapist that your going to need when Trump is re-elected as your next President.
Look I understand that suffering from "Trump Derangement Syndrome" is probably pretty debilitating but lucky for you gary there is a cure.
LEAVE THE COUNTRY AND DENOUNCE YOUR CITIZENSHIP.
Problem solved 😂

@@randyhanberg9997 You are a sad person, women hate Trump and his nastiness. We will not go back to being a second class citizen and there are more of us women than there are men. We make up 51% of the population so we we have we more votes to cast. Trump will lose as he did in 2020, so go cry in your soup, buster.

Wow listen to those insecure men. Ooh, can’t stand the idea of women’s right to autonomy.
You know what difference is? All these men had to sign up for the draft..
I’m 66 white male who grew up in rural Colorado and lost lots of friends when I refused to fall for trumps lies
Watching these men talk about women like they do makes me feels sorry for the women in their lives. If you're brought up respecting people it shows. If you were brought up not to respect people it shows. I can only imagine how the men in their lives treated women. It's sad and infuriating. Being a decent person is non-negotiable in my house.
Yes! My son and I live this way. Kindness with boundaries.
Has she tried offering them 20k, crypto and weed yet?
They could try lying about paying off student loans, I bet a lot of people would fall for that
You mean, pre diabetes high school educated, never left the town they were born in dudes? Not likely, I'd be pissed off if I was that stupid.
JD Vance is a truly dangerous individual
These people live the saddest lives out of everyone else us liberals are out here with great support systems🎉…
