I wouldn’t want to use some broken software why not do it on blender ? Or does it lose its sfm look I don’t know if its easier I only made like one short video on sfm it was on 2fort it was many years ago
@@shodan2002 blender is worse. plus, most of the problems mentioned are in valve's assets, not problems with the program. custom made stuff like you find on the workshop, SFMLABS, deviantart, etc, are generally much more user friendly. example, the ghost buildings thing? whoever made the map decided to make those as separate assets from the rest. so they are hidden by default and you have to check view world models (or other assets, forget which) to see them.
I honestly am impressed by channels like Winglet that make absolutely stunning animations in SFM. Just this little glimpse into the spaghetti of the software makes me wonder how bad it can get for the big animators’ projects.
You wanna know how cursed SFM is? One day I decided that I wanted to suffer for a bit, and decided to try this SFM thing out again. But, when I went to open the program, it wasn't in the list. So, maybe I uninstalled and hid it. Unhiding unhides everything including the stuff you probably never knew about. But it wasn't there. I then go to the store page of SFM and it says that I have downloaded it. No problem, you can launch the program from the store page. It doesn't work. The download button is there for some rea- doesn't work. Now, I searched my entire computer if there's any traces of SFM, so I could delete them and prove to steam that I don't have it. But alas, not a kilobyte to be seen. And every tutorial I can find, doesn't help. What I ended up doing was going to a shady website, promising that I can download it from there. The site takes me to the website store page of steam. And for some reason, this works. And I had to spend the rest of the day downloading it with my phone connection, because my apartment doesn't have internet. SFM is so cursed that even opening it is a gamble.
OH THANK F***!!! You sir are a GOD in human clothing!!! Thank you so much! I never thought there was such a solution ever before! (Probably should mention that it's in audio under "Hearing" in "Ease Of Access" for those who don't know mono audio's location).
@@maximumdon7637 additionally, if you don't want to go into settings and click on each thing to get to mono audio's location, you can just type "mono" into your bottom left sidebar and type enter. this method can let you find anything that's on your computer, even something as small as game files. (this only works on windows)
Sometimes when you update a particle effect you need to move the seek bar off and onto the clip you're working on. I need to test it out but maybe all they needed to do was reload the clip to get the wrangler laser to work correctly. 🙃 Either way the pain is real.
no, it's broken. someone at valve added an initializer to it called "remap control point to vector" for some reason. thats what sets the color to control point 2. the good news is that just deleting the thing fixes the problem, and has no ill effects cause thats literally all it did. the bad news is that lazy didn't know about it till later. I only found out about it cause I had messed around with that particle for a video and ran into the same issue. but i'm the type that just hulk smashes his way thru problems and starts deleting things to see what happens.
its usually not as bad as all that. its quirky but generally easy to use. you find the really odd stuff as you get into more advanced things. but you can usually see a path forward and there are lots of people and resources to help.
The saddest part in all this? Lazypurple is one of the greatest sfm animator around. he does frame perfect transitions between gameplay footage and his sfm animations. how is he able to do this? because it is a natural perfectionist. he strives to get every sfm shot to be an absolutely perfect reproduction what is going on in the tf2 game footage. even down to accurately reproducing the loadouts (weapons, hats, outfits, etc) of all the other people he was playing with. I hope to one day be as good as he is. but see, this skill has a dark side. if you pause the video at around 4:17 or 4:18, you can see the particle's properties. Look under "system properties" on the left hand side just before he zooms in to highlight the color option. that is a list of all the "operators" and "Initializers" for the particle. those control all aspects of it. size, shape, how its made, how long it lasts, etc. Do you see one labeled, "Remap control point to vector"? THAT is what makes the color be attached to the control point. it serves no other purpose. it is literally useless for anything else. and if you delete that, the color option he showed becomes functional again, and you can freely change the color. That fix, that took him hours upon hours, can be done in under 5 seconds. its a simple mistake anyone could make. he's just not the type to start randomly deleting stuff to see what they do because he wants to preserve the original stuff as much as possible. even the buildings thing is just a simple flicking a switch to make them visible.
Your audio is only recording for the left channel. I can only hear your voice in my left speaker. The audio from the video you are reacting to is fine though.
It seems to be a recurring issue that you're only recording your voice in the left channel. Your voice won't play at all from my phone speaker, and headphones only play in the left ear.
Another funny issue Lazy forgot in his SFM is that the wrangler laser is supposed to be on the sentry NOT the wrangler, cause in game it comes out of the sentry instead lel Please watch Fawful's Minon, I swear you won't be disappointed
Everyone is talking about how Hammer is scary. I've used Hammer extensively to make game maps to play, not for SFM and the most frustrating things about it besides making your map look good are the logical mistakes you make yourself when testing it and how long it takes to compile the maps. It's nothing compared to SFM.
is anyone going to tell them that only our left ears are enjoying their content? :) great content tho, but yeah...i dunno if its just me...but your voice only goes through my left sector of my headphones - everything else is normal
As someone who is starting out in SFM, that software has given me more migraines in the past month than I've had across nearly six years combined

@@shodan2002 SFM is easier in a lot of ways because it's quicker to download assets and fixes generally thanks to Steam integration
Fear not, it gets -better- worse.

to anyone whose left ear is in pain: go to settings and turn on mono audio

So glad you reacted to this video, all software is hell but sfm is particularly bad with its spaghetti
that's actually a really good point about the medic video, with the way uber works in SFM that's gotta be an absolute nightmare to work with
As a Software Developer, I’m still considering learning SFM but a part of me is hesitant…
Better option would be blender

As a guy trying to graduate from SFM to Blender and Unreal, this is why.
Thank you

Was recorded in mono accidentally. Still working out kinks from new setup:)

Maybe the ghost in SFM has possessed the video's audio?
