This is such a great series - thank you so much for keeping it going - I am getting very excited for our project FJ40 that should soon be making its way from AZ to us in Florida! With that said, it looks like our FJ was originally a CA vehicle too, as it still has its smog equipment on board. As we have no tests for that here in FL I will probably take all of that off as well. Do you happen to know if those brass plugs for the air injector holes are still available anywhere??
The air injection plugs are readily available from many Land Cruiser Parts retailers. However, the "desmog" isn't as easy as removing components. You will need to recurve the distributor and rebuild/modify the carb. Be sure to search for more info on ih8mud.com!
@@gio.rodriguez Many thanks for that hint! I did already find the brass air injector blanking plugs, but the other info is great to get my advance research done too - I'll be starting by rebuilding the carb for sure! Let me know if you eventually want to sell your non-smog exhaust headers too!
@@gio.rodriguezI joined the forum today and was reading the de-smog thread - very helpful. But one question- a lot of the forum people were talking about de-vaning the air pump instead of removing it - how did your pump get removed so easily and why do other people simply not do the same ?
At this point, might as well pull the head and do a valve job; clean everything including top of the pistons (gently). It's a pain but you will be stoked in the long run! I also, cleaned the pushrod cavity of the block for the trifecta!
Considering the carb and distributor weren’t modified correctly for the “Desmog,” it should actually run better after I’m all done. However, I do agree with the gov overreach for sure! 🤘🏼

@@stanelder9995 deveining is only needed on 1980+ land cruisers
@@gio.rodriguez ahh - OK - I’m guessing because the belt is shared with A/C and/or Power Steering ?
I’m sorry you have to through all. What year is it? It’s in great shape!
Thank you! It is a 78, parked in 97!
Stay positive!

I did that already 👍🏼
Literally making your car worse because the government in cali is a bunch of overreaching idiots. Im genuinely sorry man. Sweet rig though.
