So living with nature, in nature and from nature is considered poverty? These people have no idea how rich they really are. Dont let them tell you being a subsistence farmer is poverty. I would give up Walmart and publix for this anyday

Only legit guy in the video was the turtle protector. These "investors" have no right to low ball this beautiful place and people, I hope they don't sell out and don't renew the deal and enjoy abundant food and life until our global system can figure itself out and not be so destructive for a lame resort with a lame mowed lawn instead of the awesome jungle.

My impression from visiting Sao Tome half a dozen times since the late 90s is that the people of STP doesn't want to be preserved but wants to develop like everyone else. But I understand what you intend to say (but don't mention "preserve" among academic anthropologist, they'll freak out). While developing, I would like the people of STP to keep the main straits of their lifestyle. Westerners romanticising about poverty in developing countries is awful, having said that, my impression is that their is a lot of happiness in STP. Leve leve!

The government should force all of the foreigners who are fishing to hire the locals and pay them a decent wage that’s the only way to balance everything

What São Tomé needs is less corruption and more development, you can get that by increasing tourism and services quality (with the tourism money). São Tomé has alot of potential, but the main problem is that the people don't care about their own country, so they move to live and work in the west. I live here.

Alexproo00 it's true S.tome and Principe need urgently less corruption, transparency in all aspects. It's easy to talk about the beauty of the wonderful twins islands and there's nothing wrong with that. However this is good to attract good faith investors to develop Chronic social-eco nomic problem of the green marvellous islands of happy friendly, suffered people. 😊🤗

STP Needs Responsible investors who care about the Country to Grow. And yes there is hunger and most people are locked in on the Island with no way of getting out or creating a better Future for there Children. And yes it is still under control by other Countries as they own all the Business in and Access to the Country and the colonizers Charge 3 times more money for Services and Goods then in the developed World!!! to people that dont have anything. exempels: All Trade and Shipping is run by Portuguese, Also the import of Food and Bigger food stores are own by others foreigners. 90 % of the Turism is also own by there former colonizers. So there is not much opportunities for the SaoTomenses. I have lived on this Beautiful Island so i know.

Great video. Such a fascinating place with so much potential. Would love to visit. Checked the flights and it’s 1,200€ to get there! Should be way cheaper. It’s half the price to go to South Africa which is a far greater distance. It would be great to see the local people setting up the businesses to attract tourists rather than overseas investors. It seems that there are positive developments on the two islands.

The narrator often said words like poor, poverty, but not one national, black descendent of slaves, mentioned being poor or in poverty.they did express a desire to gain income and that is all probably due to the white investors making all the income from resources and hospitality.it appears to me an intentional neglect was left behind by the portuguese slave owners and im happy the black people did not perish beyond slavery.might i add,the indigenous peoples, blacks, are not so.they were placed there in the late 14 and early1500s by the portuguese onset of christianity with expolsion edicts and papal bulls to seperate their, blacks, families while they were yet in portugal as THE BLACK JEWS.these are descendents from children left there to populate at ages as young as age three at that time.this is called chattel and many were sold around the world, including the americas,a could very well be my relatives.

I am from Sao Tome and Principe, and honestly, this video showed mainly the bad part of our country. The country is way better than this stupid video. Obviously, we still have a long way to go, but not as bad as advertising here.
I am tired of our government with no self-confidence who sign deals that beneficiary more these investors. They do not recognise how powerful our country is. Same way, I am sick of those foreigners that portray us as stupid that are dying of hunger.
Anyway, our generation will change this.

      3 year old Dnt breed.
It's a shame the original inhabitants (Portuguese) of the island brought slaves to the island. They should have settled the island like Madeira and become self sufficient. However greed is greed and what had happened, happened.

As a lot of 'African' countries, the people of STP needs to find a culture of its own and put to rest this idea of foreign religion, language, history and economics....
Western countries are way poorer than STP but they can print out all the money they want and manipulate their value as China also is doing but 'African' countries including STP can't do the same because their so called leaders are top westerns employees...
This slave machinery called Democracy only came to further explore the already exploited population to the bone leaving them with a false sense of liberty.
Mental development is what differ an adult from an infant, therefore it's important to target the mind.
Democracy is a tool that helped westerners to Rob the world easier than to take a candy away from a child....

The first guy in the video is speaking French; however, we speak Portuguese, which is our first language. Also, we have a few local languages that are mainly spoken by the elderly.
Regarding foreign language, French is the most spoken language among older people, then English is spoken by young ones. Besides these languages, there are considerable numbers of people that speak Spanish and Chinese, which are the language that we learn while studying abroad.
