- I've been using a simple food dehydrator to dry my filament but recently upgraded to a PrintDry Pro filament drying system and in this video I share my experiences. In short, I really like it and would buy it again, but am eagerly awaiting the next iteration or more competition in this space.

I had the same issue with the rubber spool holders until I realized the other bag had the proper size, you might have already realized this by now. Great video!
Oh, huh. Mine only had one size. Maybe they didn't include both sizes. It seemed to include an excessive amount of them too...

Overall, it's been good, just a bit loud and clunky. But it does work and holds 4 spools.
That is soooo much quieter than mine. I contacted support with a recording, and they said I shouldn't expect another one to be any better. Also, the double button push is awful. I usually have to try multiple times (and then readjust the temperature before trying again). All those frustrations aside, I'm still thinking about buying the V3 for the higher temps and an extra bay.
V3s are super quiet I had to get two.
I bought one of these a few days ago and it just came in. I had to go look for instructions on how to do the timer, so thank for the overview! I'll do the temp guide print too. I really appreciate the warning on spool management. I'm now going to go take a sharpie and mark the slots so I have an easy visual guide.
Given all my spool holes are much bigger than the spools, I think I'll wrap the metal holders with fabric to avoid burning.
I have a huge stack of rubber stoppers now too.

it's nice to know this has an always on mode. it's one of the reasons I held off buying one.
I will say I do wish it had a humidity sensor though.
I mean, this is a food dehydrator that's been modified. There's no reason to buy one of these when all it takes is finding the parts and assembling it, especially since you're not paying premium for a "brand" specific item. Get the most affordable dehydrator, open it up, make sure it's ok electrically, install a basic Amazon bought humidity sensor and find stacking trays that fit the bill. The rest is history. If you're lucky, you can find exactly what they used to fabricobble this.
@@aserta You are really underselling the value in having all of these parts. There arent any off the shelf dehydrators that will let you use 4 spools simultaneously. I already have a cheap dehydrator with a lazy ziptie inside it, and its a subpar solution compared to this, which seems much less fussy, and holds more spools.
Does it only for for a specific diameter filament like 1.75 mm or does it work for 3 mm as well?
The main benefit of this is that it reaches a temperature that most other dryers do not reach. However it is definitely somewhat clunky in many ways. It's a bit weird that they supply so many different bits and pieces but yet no plugs for all the other holes through which moist air came enter. The first thing I did when I got mine was print a whole bunch of TPU plugs.
If you aren’t using desiccant packets, the holes can be helpful to let moisture out of the unit I believe.
The rubber feet on the bottom of the unit come off easily and make excellent “plugs” to plug up the unused holes so no moisture creeps in after it’s off.
Looks like it could hold 8 spools -- 4 per axle? Move that brace/desiccant to a printed box in the spool curvature gap areas, filled with loose indicator/rechargeable desiccant. (Of course, makes it an larger pain to change spools.)
Not sure if I understood correctly but you seem to indicate that power unit at the bottom is only a heating system not a dehydration system as there are desiccant packs next to the spools, is that correct?
It's removing moisture from the air by just using heat, which is how most dehydrators work. The desiccant packs are just there to keep the moisture low inside the chamber when it's off.
I realize this is already bought, and so you almost certainly aren't looking for another but the EIBOS CYCLOPES exists in sorta the same space and includes a humidity sensor for less.
it has the big downside though of only fitting 2 spools.

EIBOS cyclopes only goes up to 70 degrees C, this item goes up to 85. That is the major difference for me
So does the attached Bowden tubes connect directly to your printer? You didn’t discuss that. If that’s the case I would be concerned about a constant swapping of Bowden tubes as you switch filaments, which are in different tubes. I’m also assuming these tubes are only for 1.75mm filament?
Nope, it doesn't actually attach. I just have mine hanging above my spool holder, so there is an 'open' area, but it shouldn't matter too much. I only use 1.75mm, but I'm sure it could accommodate 2.85mm or whatever the other one is.
I just picked one of these up and I'm not super sure about it's operation. Does it cycle the fan and heater occasionally after it warms up? I went to test mine and it ran for a bit and has shut off.
Press both the up and down buttons, that's for the timer. Set the timer to '0' for continuous operation.
have u checked the actual temperatures of the chamber ? Mine is like 20c below the setting!
Yeah, air temp will usually be less. Measure the temperature of a the spool though, it might be warmer.
Awesome review! Subscribed :) I was seriously considering this model. I saw they have a new version that looks identical and there was no detail as to how it's improved/changed. How accurate was the temp? I have seen a number of reviews for other dryers from 3D manufacturers that can't hit the set temp and dehydrators are awful for that as well. I have ABS and will use Nylon and it seems no one has a solution for that.
I'm actually in the process of replacing it. After using it for more time, I kinda got a bit fed up with it and decided to switch to something else. I'm now using the Sunlu S2 dryer and really like it: amzn.to/40G3IT4 I'll be doing a full comparison very soon (video might go live this weekend).

@@ShahriarFarkhan I haven't had it very long, but I'm not sure a fan is really necessary IMO. I think just a couple well-placed holes should be fine. It does seem to reduce the relative humidity and heat rises, so it SHOULD in theory just desiccate out and through natural convection be removed.
@@RobertCowanDIY I see it can only go up to 70 degrees, is that enough to dry filament like Nylon? Or haven't you noticed any difference compared to the "Printdry"?

you kind of had the answer to the stacking design issue in your stratasys printer, make it drawers with a mesh buttom.... so that air can circulate, but makes swapping easy.
Yep. It's a cheaper way of doing it, but really clunky to swap filament.

@@BeefIngot You have to watch his older Stratasys rebuild videos, where the old high end printer had drawers akin to paper drawers in laser printer....
The instructions say to put it on a heat resistant (another place it says heat proof) surface. I'm afraid it will damage my wood floor or rubber wood workbench. How hot does it get on the bottom when you drying Nylon (85 degrees C). What is on the floor of the closet where you run this?
Ha, I wouldn't worry about it. That just sounds like they didn't want to bother with getting it UL certified, so they just put that warning on there. I have another video where I showed that the unit has an issue even getting up to temp. It doesn't get very hot at all.
Boy you really reached for stuff to gripe about.... I mean, wow. I will agree with you that the button interface could be better. As for spool holders, really? After 10 minutes of use, you sort of know they can fall if not careful. The filament holders/wheels things come in two sizes (you didn't seem to mention that). Most of my spools fit either or, I haven't encountered many that don't fit them. Overall I really like my machine and it's paid for itself over and over again, reviving materials I thought I couldn't use....or drying materials that prevented a poor print. Yes, it is a little noisy but in my shop of 21 machines, you'll hear the fans running from the fume extractors (mine are in enclosures, filtration systems/fire suppression systems/video monitoring). Print safe!

You're not wrong... There is a food dehydrator roughly this shape. They just made some modifications to an off-the-shelf dryer it seems.
Just fyi set the timer to 0 and buy a light/aquarium outlet timer if u want it to kick back on later, or get a wifi outlet set it up to ur phone/pc if its over octoprint

@@RobertCowanDIY i did just read their website it maxes out at 48hrs even on no time (so remember that if theres some crazy large print, set it to 23/1?) its nice when my growing passion meets 3d print passion lol
my problem with all these is they are not big enough.. I use 5kg and 3kg spools and neither would fit into these
5kg spools DO fit inside, but it takes up way too much room and isn't really space efficient.

such an overpriced dryer (more than 280$ in Europe at least), there are so many options worth it
I would maybe agree with you. What other options are you looking at? I haven't seen that many alternatives.
@@RobertCowanDIY so far i have two S2 that are silent and heat at 360° and very happy. Thinking about Eibos also but for big spools indeed, not many options
