I think if Tony had found out in a controlled environment his reaction would've been different, he might've been more understanding. Because he didn't just hear Bucky killed his parents, he actually watched him do it. Tony watched his parents die and then found out his supposed friend lied by omission and Cap first said no and then said yes to knowing. This is what would be called a crime of passion, Tony lost it. Later in the letter he sent Tony, Cap admitted to omitting the truth for his own interest, because it was easier for him to hide it
As the writers of the film put it; Cap had a feeling it was Bucky deep in his heart, but his emotional bond to him superseded his logic (parent refusing to believe their child did wrong/ spouse cheated/ family member lied/ etc). Cap was telling the truth when he said he didn't KNOW it was Bucky (writers confirmed) but the reason Cap says that, and the reason Tony gets pissed, is because Cap is using that to avoid the question; Did he know the Stark's were murdered. That's why he gives two different answers. This all comes full circle with the letter. His rationalization and belief was that by keeping the secret he was sparing Tony the pain. But he now realizes he was in denial and was actually sparing himself from having to face the truth.
Also Tony was under extreme stress this whole movie. Most of the avengers hate him now and eventually side with Cap, Pepper broke up with him, and people blame him for ultron. Now the man who his father favored as a son is protecting his parent’s killer

Bucky was brainwashed and tortured for almost 100 years and hydra just used him as a middle man to kill Tony's parents. That's how he became the winter soldier and when he's in that mode he's pretty unstoppable. At the beginning of the movie a woman was in the exact same situation with Tony regarding her son's death.

how is it not a fair fight??? Last time I checked, it doesn’t matter how many protagonist it takes to take down the villain, as long as you do anything to take him out. Iron man was the villain of the movie, so even if it was the whole avengers against him, it would still be a fair fight. I don’t see any of you guys complaining about all these people going up against thanos.
This is why I loved Civil War as a movie. There is no moral high ground in the situation at all because both sides are in the right and the wrong at the same time. Bucky killed alot of people as the Winter Solider and that fact haunts him to this day as he remembers all of his victims, but at the same time he was still the one who killed them as he admits. Saying Cap should just step aside while they fight is just nonsense. Bucky is the last person alive that he knew who was around before he went under the ice and also happens to be his best friend.

I love how they did an extraordinary writing. Yes, Winter Soldier did it under mind control.
He is also a victim. And to Steve Bucky is the dude that AWAYS had his back when he was a weakling.
bucky said he remembers all of them because in that moment he wasn't brain washed and actually knew who he was and still kept his memory of what he was forced to do as the winter soldier. When he was the winter soldier he was being controlled by hydra and couldn't do anything about it. Whenever he returned to "normal" he couldn't remember everything or anyone. So that was the only time he was actually thinking clearly and knew who he was and what happened to him and all that he was forced to do. Although Iron Man was right in being angry he wasn't right in attacking Bucky because it wasn't bucky who killed his parents. You also gotta remember that it is impossible for cap to do the wrong thing so he wasn't just protecting bucky because he's his bestfriend, he was protecting him because it was the right thing to do.
That’s why watching the whole movie is a good thing. Bucky remember every kill but he had no control from his HYDRA conditioning.

I hope those captain side people would also trying to understand what Tony's feel. Same thing goes for ironman side. It is not an easy thing to control yourself while you're not emotionally stable, at least for some people. I also understand that Cap was doing the right thing by preventing both his friends for killing each other. If i'm in Tony's position, I probably would've done the same thing Tony's did. Love Iron Man and I completely understand why he wanted to kill Bucky, but you guys also got to understand he was BRAINWASHED. He didn't have a choice in not killing Tony's parents. Also he's going to have the memories of what he did as the winter soldier because he did them, its after the 2nd Cap movie that he remembered he was Bucky from WWII that he realized what he was doing was wrong.

Bucky is less responsible for Tony's parents, than Bruce is for destruction of that African city in Avengers 2. Bruce was hypnotized once, Bucky has his mind turned inside out for decades.

Tony often does things without thinking of consequences which he regrets after. That's what happened with Ultron causing him to side with government out of guilt in Civil War (even though it's the same government that was corrupted by Hydra before and caused most of the doubtful experiments, conflicts etc). If he had killed Bucky here, he would feel guilty later. Bucky is basically a prison of war - captured, tortured, brainwashed, etc. So in the end Cap not only saved the closest person of his whole life, he also saved Tony from another guilt trip - consiously or not. First of all, it was a fait battle. Yes it was Cap and Bucky against Iron man, but that doesn't change anything because Iron man is not Tony Stark. It's Tony and Friday. So Cap and Bucky were superior in the physical number, but Tony and friday are on a mental level that you just can't beat, even with your bestfriend. Feel like a lot of people forget that.
Second of all, no one won, everybody lost. Bucky lost his arm. Cap lost his shield and a friend. Tony lost a friend. Without saying that each of them nearly died. It's a mentally tough movie and that's why it's my favorite. Not Endgame or anything else. Civil war.

Plus the serum sort of made him who he is now became a big part of him where is you can’t change that. And Bucky is still an incredibly trained soldier with incredible skill.

OK yes we get it Winter Soldier was brain washed but you have to understand what hurt Tony more was that Steve didn't tell him. Earlier in the fight scene, his focus was on Barnes and he would simply ignore Steve until he got in the way. Tony would then respond by trying to shrug him off, like when he disabled him with leg cuffs or blocked the doorway to keep Steve from interfering again.
If Tony actually wanted to kill Captain America here, he could've aimed all those lasers and tank destroying missiles at him when he lost his mighty shield. He's a super soldier but I very much doubt Steve's immune to decapitation or resistant enough to survive a missile to the face.

Would I would have wanted was for Black Panther to join this fight. Then it would have been over ASAP!!! Nonetheless, Iron Man was taking it easy on Cap and that's why he lost. Iron Man would have inevitably taken them both down with one of his crazy weapons but didn't choose to.
The bigger issue is that Capt never tried to tell Tony the truth. He kept it from Tony, knowing that there were greater consequences by not saying anything. Capt cared more about saving Bucky, than he did about being real with someone else he considered a "Friend" and telling the truth. Tony is a lot of things, but irrational isn't one of them. Had capt sat him down and explained EVERYTHING that happened, I guarantee that this whole thing wouldn't have happened. To me, that's why their dialog, "He's my friend Tony." "So was I." Is the most heartbreaking.
Cap never tried to tell Tony because he was in denial and couldn't accept it himself. When they all watch the tape that's the first time Cap knows for a fact Bucky was the killer, so there's really not much he could have even told him before that. I agree he should have said something, but I also sympathize with him. He's legit stuck in the middle of two friends regarding something he had nothing to do with.
