  • Chasing Reno Gold: The Drive, Devotion, and Passion of Unlimited Air Racing Pilots!
THE ULTIMATE AIR RACING VIDEO WITHOUT AN AIR RACE!
How do you produce an air racing video for the fans without an air race? That was the situation in 2011 when a tragic crash on Friday September 16th 2011 shut down the Reno Air Races without yielding any race winners. That was the challenge and Chasing Reno Gold is the result of that challenge.
In order to produce a video that was unlike any other we decided to interview every living unlimited gold winner - from the first Reno Air Races in 1964 through 2010, the last year of a race winner, and find out what gives them the drive, devotion, and passion to fly, race and win.
This video contains almost 4 hours of interviews and stories from your favorite unlimited gold winning pilots, key crew members and others related to the Reno Air Races.
You’ll hear from Mira Slovak, the first winner in 1964 who defected from the Czech Republic to gain his freedom in America, Darryl Greenamyer, Bruce Lockwood, John Penney, Ron Hevle, Dennis and Brian Sanders, Skip Holm, Mike Brown, Steve Hinton, and the youngest and most recent winner, Steven Hinton.
Find out how they got started racing, what drives them to race and win! What makes a good racing pilot, how to build a winning team at Reno, what was their wildest Mayday, who mentored them, and some very special stories about Reno over the years.
Beginning with an introduction by Bob Gandt, author of Fly Low, Fly Fast, the ultimate book on Reno Air Racing, this fast paced video will keep you on the edge of your seat and includes appearances by Bill Kerchenfaut, the winningest crew chief at Reno, Chris Wood, “Secret” Pete Law, and David “LD” Hughes. George Mokski talks about getting the first Reno event started in 1964 and how he built a runway out of a dirt road for the original races. Reno Air Race Association President Mike Houghton and Media and Public Relations Director Valerie Miller-Moore share their love or air racing and what the future holds for Reno Air Racing.
With a special appearance by Mr. Robert “R.A. Bob” Hoover who shares his insight and memories of attending every one of the 48 years of Reno Air Racing. Bob led the Unlimiteds down the chute for 30 years and uttered the most famous words in air racing history: “Gentlemen, you have a race”!
