Every once, in a long while, I start thinking, I might buy Harley. And then I see videos like this, which are abundant on TH-cam. And I promptly get that thought out of my head. Sorry about your troubles.

It’s been absolute torment. Crazy. It’s fixed now and it definitely makes up for the aggro it’s been so far. Awesome machine. I’d like to say I’ve just been unlucky but I don’t know? Pretty sure you wouldn’t have these kind of problems with a honda or alike but ride one of these (that works as it should straight from the box) and you’ll want one too!
Thanks for watching and the positive feedback

for real. I've had three Suzuki cruisers and now a Honda only got stranded once by one of the Suzuki's... I expect if I'm going to be paying more for the bike I want more bike not to be left stranded.

What you never see on youtube is the thousands of HD owners who have been very happy with their bikes since day one! I'm 64, on my third HH (Sportster, Softail Custom and now a Nightrod Special). The videos I see on youtube never have anything to do with the bikes, but with specific dealerships and their service.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 your bike is not fit for purpose and you can ask for replacement of you money back. You’ve given them the opportunity to repair but they have been unsuccessful therefore you can request one or the other.

This is going to sound odd but although my harley 107 hasn't given me any problems ( till my fork seal blew today anyway 😅) , I've found a few problems with it that are probably down to poor manufacturing. I spoke to a local independent harley mechanic and his take on it was basically they're full of potential problems from the factory, all of which can be addressed by swapping out original parts for aftermarket. I've done a full s&s camchest upgrade on mine ( did the work myself after buying a few special tools, cam bearing puller etc ) to hopefully prevent future problems, original camshaft was showing excessive wear on the lobes at only 6500 miles. Wheels were rusting quite badly inside when I recently removed them to fit new tyres, hopefully I've nipped that in the bud. If I were buying another HD, I'd buy a low miler on the used market at a significantly lower price, and upgrade all the potential weak points to make the bike better than factory fresh. It seems the aftermarket make a better harley than harley themselves do.

@@TheLeevtr many true points there… sadly I’ve learned just from the comments on here alone that Harley Davidson as a brand comes with a massive potential to split people down the middle. You either love or hate them. Me I love them but they do certainly have their faults. Luckily coming from a body shop background I know everything can be fixed, just depends on how much time and money you want to put into it. Buying new (or a used demo bike) you expect to get a pretty good version of what you’re expecting - he’s it’s going to fail on me in the future and have its own specific set of problems… just a shame mine come with them from the factory 😬😂

I've heard nothing but horror stories about the M8 engine, no matter what size. Coming up on 15,000 miles on my Indian Springfield, no issues at all other than the initial Key Fob needed to be replaced and a VCM refresh for a gear indicator issue the first week of ownsership. Has been error free ever since. I wish you well on getting your bike repaired and trouble free. No one likes paying that amount of extraordinary money and being hassled with problems.

Hi, I have been there, with a similar issue on an Indian FTR 1200 back in 2020 and the dealer couldn't fix the problem, and they were emailing technical in the USA back and forth for about a week, and although I did have a demo bike, I was not happy, and when I went down to to my local dealer to check on any updates, I noticed that my new Indian was left outside and was quite dirty, my bike only had around 30 miles on the trip. So, I went inside and asked to sit down with the sales manager who sold me my bike, we had a robust discussion, and I got a full refund! And I then purchased another new bike. You have always got your consumer rights laws on your side! 😊 👍

I had major 2018 M8 117 issues on my brand new CVO Limited. Bike would sump and overheat and melt the top end every 600 -800 miles. 3 times..Harly tech rep involved....still did it. My dealer Bergen County HD in NJ got Milwaukie to take the bike back and gave me a new 2019 CVO Limited. I have 35k on it now. Zero issues. My dealer is the best around and always has been. • @aaron.black107

Agreed but… my bike went back to the original supplying dealer and was given the all clear twice (once before I owned it) but it was never right. My local dealer have seen my bike twice and both times said there’s a problem that the other dealer didn’t see (even though clearly there is an issue)
Dealer networks should be united across the network. If I’d bought a bike in Scotland but moved to the south for example a dealer on the south coast would now be dealing with it. Same difference I’m having. It’s a four hour minimum around trip from my house. I’ve done it three times now and not doing it anymore to an award winning dealer that I have no faith in.

I've been posting the following on several sites and getting very little feedback, so I'll post on yours as well. The M8 is a poorly designed motor. My 2017 had blowby directed through the air filter which gunks up the air intake system, leaks down the side of motor, and causes carbon build up on the heads leading to loss of compression, loss of horsepower, and reduced engine life. Blowby should be redirected back into the engine to be burned off, as it is on my Kawasaki. There was oil transfer from the engine to the clutch. Check your oil. Has it gone down? Open the clutch cover. Does oil spill out? Engine oil is filtered AFTER the oil cooler. See Kevin Baxter on the M8. When I ask if Harley has fixed these issues, I hear crickets. The owner is expected to spend thousands to fix this crap with after-market parts. Is the new 2024 any better? Nobody seems to know. Huh? I will never buy another Harley. My next bike will be an Indian Challenger.

The other harleys have that crank case pressure delivered back to the engine the same way.
I sealed mine off ( not an m8 ) and have the crank case pressure relieved out through the cam case.
      There are other ways.

Hi 👋, Aaron , I have just started following your issues, you are not the only one, if you do a lot of digging, you will find problems everywhere,
There is a very interesting guy over in the states who posts a comment every Friday night , I cannot remember his name exactly, but it is something like, GixxerFoo, he gives advice on certain parts of the bikes, and what to look out for, And gives advice on what parts to replace with upgrade, you would’ve thought that the price of the bikes that they would not have issues, I believe it is the worst thing that Harley I’ve ever done was having their bikes manufactured and assembled out of the country, Cost cutting, giving more profit to them, but ending up letting their customers down that have helped them build their name over the years, I believe you have been better off buying a older bike and spending the money on rebuilding it how you require it. I believe this way he would not have any issues., good luck for the future. I have heard you’ve got your bike back again.,

I bought a brand new 2018 Lowrider with M8. Had a few scares on it when It was very difficult to stop because the engine was idling at 2000rpm! Tried all the youtube fixes, that worked for a short time. It was still under warranty but the dealer from just laughed and said some of them do that, and said he couldnt look at it for several months. I eventually took it to another dealer, but warranty had expired. They fixed it by installing software updates that the dealer I bought if from, and had it serviced there 3 times, never installed. I ended up selling it and now ride a 98 Dyna Wide glide with evo engine. Its to my mind a better bike to ride, just not as fast, and totally reliable. Also not at the mercy of the dealers to fix it, as a carby Evo is very owner friendly for repairs if ever required.

I’ve owned 5 Harley’s, one I bought used and the others were new. I really liked the motorcycles especially one that had a twin cam 103. A lot of the ownership experience depends on the quality of the dealer. I bought three bikes from one dealer because the salesman was good. But when I had a problem that same dealer was piss poor in the service dept. they would lie and make excuses why the bike was not fixed and then told me they could not find the problem. When I brought the bike to another dealer in a different city, they diagnosed the problem right away and the engine was replaced and was repaired in seven days. So I believe that the quality of the folks running the dealer really make the difference. I no longer have a Harley but ride an 18 year old Honda VTX 1300. A simple back to the basics bike without all the tech.

Thank you for your honest feedback. Looking at a 24 RG I’d say go for it. Just be sure you’re near enough to the dealer should there be any problems. For me my supplying dealer has the stock of the bike I wanted whereas the local dealer that fixed the issues is five minutes from me. Going back and forth to the supplying dealer was over four hours minimum travelling time and I vow to never go there again (it’s that much of a nuisance)
Oh and HD U.K. are not interested in any problems you might have, they just reply telling you how good your local dealer is and to bear with them 🤦🏻‍♂️
Thanks again for watching and good luck with whatever choice you make 👍🏻

You have my sympathy. I've owned Harleys since 1986. The 2021 FXLRS is my fourth and the best yet. Smooth, powerful, handles, stops and no problems at 25,000km (touch wood). I have mates with other model M8s of the same vintage with no issues. However I never had a warranty issue resolved on any vehicle by a dealer. I always had to finally resort to investigating and resolving them myself. It seems there is no urgency once they have our money. Perhaps the engine management systems are smarter than the service teams. I hope your bike is sorted soon and can enjoy the ride. The M8 is great when working properly.

My first brand new bike was an 06 Street Glide. After a proper warmup the bike would shut off unexpectedly while riding. The dealer tried to fix it. It was in the shop for nearly a month straight. When I got it back it had the same issue with more back and forth with the dealer. I sued Harley and got an 07 Street Glide which turned out to be a good bike. I kept it for a year and put about 12000 miles on it when I traded it for a Kawasaki Concours which I still have. Before the 06 Street Glide I had a 94 Fat Boy. That was a good bike which I put about 40000 miles on. I did end up replacing leaking base gaskets but had no other issues. I wish I kept that bike.

From compensator that blew like a claymore and sticking throttle.
I sold it back to them in the end.

Hi Aaron, I feel your pain. On my 2002 Road King, Somewhat of the same issue, after a cam tensionor replacement,
the manifold seal was off a little bit.
I loosened the head bolts and rotated the head a couple of thousands until the manifould matched and re-torqued the head,
there is "play" in both the cylinder and the head when they are being installed.
Now if the rest of my issues were resolved.

I've in the past rejected 2 different Harley Sportsters and am done with the brand - I found out that Harley UK customer services are just an outsourced call centre whose processes point you straight back to the dealership each time - my issues were rust/corrosion related and cumulated with me rejecting the bike via the finance company (Black Horse) as the dealership, and Harley UK, told me I'd not looked after the bike and it was my fault all the paint was coming off the frame (this happened to two sportsters, each before they were 6 months old)..... bit late now but this is why I only buy vehicles using credit card for deposit or financed - in the end the finance company refunded me and went after the dealership directly - as per other comments if the warranty isn't doing it for you, I'd send it back to the supplying dealer with evidence it was faulty from time of sale (as you have the confirmation in writing/email hopefully from local dealer) and advise you are giving them one final attempt at fixing it ..... consumer rights are much more powerful than warranty

I’ve got a 2015 103 street bob which I’ve owned since new. At 8k miles TPS failed. 13k CPS failed. 18k abs sensor failed. Now 24k it’s got a massive electrical fault. It’s been in mechanics shop for 6 months and he reckons it needs a new BCU regulator etc. so probably £1k plus worth of parts and labour. On the flip side both wife and I have 883xl sportsters (2010 and 2013 - my 2013 was bought from the mechanic as a spare while street bob is off road). The sportsters are simple, old fashioned, without fancy gadgets and consequently they work. In fact my 883 is going in for a 1200 conversion next week. If the street bob (£11.5K new, probably worth £8k if it was a runner) is terminal, I’m going to scrap it and switch to British classic styles eg triumphs etc. Much more reliable and all independent garages can work on them. If you look online at UK HD dealerships, you’ll see loads of them are going bust. HD globally are in real trouble and they’re trying to cover their losses by mass producing naff machines that break after a few years. The sad thing is….. every HD commercial or glossy promotional photo goes on about ‘freedom’ and inevitably shows a guy riding through the mountains. What it should really show is the same guy round the next corner, desperately trying to get a mobile phone signal to google his bike’s latest vague error code….

@@aaron.black107 if you look at HD over the decades, they’ve had ups and downs with either mechanical or electrical issues. If you’re prepared to invest in improving and maintenance, you can have a bike for life. Especially with their relatively simple engines. However it seems they’ve tried to go down the techie route and it’s not gone too well for them ie. No one buys HD for built in sat nav’s, or multi sequential all singing and dancing EFi. They’re bucket list bikes. But they’re trying to sell us a new one every 3 yrs instead of sticking to making bombproof bikes that last a lifetime. And they’re too expensive to keep changing anyway.

I got my 2023 FXST model in vivid black in April of LAST year and I am hearing that color now is extra, My 2023 which has been UP GRADED to a 119 C.I. Screamin Eagle Stage 3 and it is Black. I had drag bars and an aluminum intake manifold installed on mine, and had my dealer do that before taking her home. I QUESTIONED THE PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD ON AN AIR COOLED MOTOR, TOO. I did this up grade because she was in 3 times with a nagging rocker box leaks 280 miles-600 miles... so I got a discount on the stage 3, I said you are in there so do it. they put her on the dyno and found a bad transmission & they have done a BRAND new one. told my dealer that she had a howl when down shifting at 3rd to 2nd at lowest RPM. 3 times that she was in... WELL, I wish I had been wrong. I had asked them to run her while in before, and they said they all make that sound. guess this up grade was a blessing because the trans blew in 15 seconds on the dyno while finishing the fuel map on the stage 3 job. Now at 618 miles she has a new top end and a new transmission, they told the thousand mile check-up should moved up 1600. Mine was done in the Pennsylviana plant, USA layoffs and firing was an issue their. I SUSPECT THE HOSTILE WORK ENVIRONMENT DUE TO the pandenic hurt the workers mental state, and build quality. Thanks for your work. I have not ridden her much since because of single digit temps, rode the other day in 10 degrees so far so good. I do not think you are alone. Not great at all - happy to chat offline but, in short, the original dealer should have disclosed the fact the bike was subject to a warranty claim. Your legal rights are with the original selling dealer and HD UK so, you need to raise a complaint with the MD of each to resolve it - you may have legal recourse if the fact a warranty claim was not declared at the point of sale. Re the Thai comments, they merely assemble in Thailand and the 107 is still being manufactured and is reliable, so it could be a one off of that particular motor (casting) or similar.

the motor is USA made, the pistons Austrian etc. - what I'd be careful of is asking / instructing the other dealer do work to 'rectify' an issue that was present prior to purchase - you do not want to compromise your legal position or rights to redress and the other dealer working on it could muddy that - the original manifold is fit for purpose otherwise mine and others would be suffering etc. and HD would have recalled - so your fight is with the original seller / HD UK @@aaron.black107

Of course but sadly as I was not aware of the original dealer warranty issue before purchasing and having my local dealer try and rectify by fitting a cast part I guess that’s already going to go against me. Shouldn’t do as just proves I wasn’t aware of anything and surely the original dealer can’t try and wriggle out of it pointing blame to me as I would never have known.
I’m also guessing the 107 has a smaller inlet than the bigger M8’s hence why all the others in the past may not have been suffering like mine (or they’ve just changed the plastic composition from 2023 that’s now failing)?

Hi, the EITMS does knock it down to one cylinder to help keep it cool once hot, it shouldn’t have problems idling all the time though what mine was doing. Clearly something else was wrong. Sounds like yours is just like mine was. There’s some update videos in playlists on the chsnnel, have a look it does explain things how I got this resolved in the end. Hope you get sorted and thanks for watching 🤙🏻

Consumer rights act as mentioned. Have an engineer do a report before hand and itemise the process thus far. There is probably a trade system to follow just google it, should only cost you for the report and time of course. It’s just a lump of metal, return it and get another. 🤞

Sound advice thank you - more to the story to follow in another video but I’m bearing this info regarding consumer rights strongly in mind.

You got what you paid for. You purchased the Harley now. Enjoy the Harley lifestyle. The second reason is I don't know where you live, but you stated you just had a two week holiday. Give any Harley mechanic a two week holiday, and he will need to be retrained after being off that long. Hope you get your bike fixed.

@@aaron.black107 I had all that stuff done as new when I bought the bike, so full warranty was on all. Have the front facing screaming eagle (I think) intake, which I like, but it kinda gets in the way a little when on the highway bar (mustache bar)

I moved a couple years ago, lost the Dyno sheet they gave me. The bike was just over 1hp/CUI like 116 or something but torque is what this thing does best, 127 Tq if I remember right.

I wouldn’t read too much into the awards, there’s so few dealerships in the UK and some favourites with HDUK. I can’t speak for your or anyone else’s Thai bike, but my 2021 Breakout I’d argue is actually has a slightly better fit/ finish than the US built 2018 version I had.
You said you paid cash but if you used a credit card or visa debit card from your bank to pay for any of it, you should have additional cover from your bank/ card provider also which is an avenue worth exploring. Eric is also correct re: consumer rights act although they will be allowed to make a deduction for (albeit minimal) usage.
We’re all different but based on my own personal experience when I’ve had a car/ bike go wrong I’d be getting rid and getting something else as it will be always be a nagging doubt in the mind that it may happen again.

Thanks for the positive feedback. No credit card involved sadly as was all debit card (plus trade in of another bike with no finance)
Understand where you and many others are coming from regarding getting rid. If this issue can’t be resolved then I’ll be going the legal route 100%

Sounds to me like a computer issue. Have the dealer plug in a different ECM and see if the problems go away. I bet they do.

I had a problem with mine that no one could fix and I was even told it was my riding at fault... hahahaha... Continously cutting out at the most dangerous places, like roundabouts, junctions, traffic lights etc... Also the engine would surge horrendously,, eg. when trying to slow down it was speeding up.... No one could fix it, so I got rid of it...... I spent a fortune on that bike and it was a looker... Couldn't put up with it any longer such a shame but my safety was compromised I felt...... that was a 2007/8 Dyna.

I just wonder if someone hammered the bike before the engine was properly run in. My dealer always uses a lead guide when someone wants to road test a bike, this protects those new bike demonstrators from the hooligan element intent on thrashing them.
I'm on my fourth Harley, a used 2018 Road King bought in 2022 and apart from the harsh rear end now cured by a set of Ohlins have had no problem with it now on 16K miles.
I would see about getting your money back because the bike is clearly not fit for purpose, maybe offer to trade it in for another with the price you paid for it as the trade-in value.

    • @aaron.black107
      @aaron.black107  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi Pete, thanks for the feedback. I do have the bike back now fixed. The dealer kept trying with the cast manifolds and finally got one to seal but it still wasn’t running right. Further videos on a playlist on the channel.
Your tight though about test rides and people abusing them. I’d like to think though any used bike you buy would be subject to the same fate from the previous owner? You never know eh? That’s why buying the demo I thought would be ok especially as it’s not like an R1 or a 1000RR that you’d expect to be hammered?
Thanks for watching and the positive feedback. Really appreciated 👍🏻

This will be the last one I buy for sure. In the U.K. we will not have any petrol or diesel cars / bikes supplied new anymore after 2030 unless the law changes by then. Thought buying this bike would tick the box for me with a long ownership while we still can. Can’t even get the first 6 months right, who knows where this is going to end up?

The US is circling the drain as well with stupid all-electric mandates in the future. In the meantime, burn dead dino's and make the greenies cry. If you want a vintage motorcycling experience that won't break the bank, get a Royal Enfield. I have a 500 Classic and it's a total joy to ride in a funky retro style. Not fast, not high-tech but dirt simple and downright fun. My BMW R1200RT takes care of the go-fast/high tech needs. No more HD for me. Sold my electra glide and never looked back.@@aaron.black107
