LOS the range is supposed to be 7km I believe, but in a built up area I'd suggest buying something with a bit more power.

this radio has a faulty design issue, I tested it in high mountains of the alps region, it suffer from high elevation and cold weather and humidity, the sound volume goes all mute hearing nothing when needed most, and battery drained as well, I've checked in the website where I purchased it only to my surprise many comments are the same from people whom faced similar results with their radios.
