When the cameras on auto it determines whether it should be in night mode or day mode based on the amount of ambient light. I have one set up in my living room to keep an eye on my cats as well. As long as there's lights turned on it stays in day mode. My my lights are off it goes into night mode.

Thank you, but I really can’t understand all the codes that it requires. Also will it work when I install all my Alexa stuff I’ve ordered from Amazon? 35 at Home Depot!
I am not sure I understand the question. There are a few codes when needed when you set up so that the camera is attached to you account. If you have a echo device with a screen you can ask it to show one of your cameras.
How does it handle power outages? If you lose power and then regain it will the camera power up by itself without hitting resets or pushing buttons? I have power backups for my router and modem but a little harder to do when powering the cameras.
my question is our local canadian tire has these battery back up for cell phones, it states that it will charge a phone up to 4 times before having to recharge. could you plug one of these in to the camera if an outlet wasn't available. i see cell adapters are 5 volt.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews thanks!!! now i wonder how a good battery back up would last before having to be recharged. i guess theres only one way to find out, buy one. i just ordered 2 cameras from amazon. no one else ships to canada
Does the cams need wires when using them, by exemple, you want one in the garage and one in a room in upper floor... are they only wifi or need a wire to work when you're away and want to see what's happening? Thank you!
Technically if they're close enough you can daisy chain them together and have one be plugged into power. But that can get a little sloppy depending on what your setup is like.
very thorough review. good job. I believe it records 12 second clips after motion is detected, then uploads to the cloud that 12 second clip. BUt it then stops recording clips for 5 minutes? or is it still recording to the memory card? and can you view it live even as it uploads that 12 second clip?
It's about 5 minutes for it to trigger another motion event. These events are what are clipped and save to the cloud. As long as you have an SD card the camera will be recording whatever is going on regardless. And you can always look in on the camera while it's recording to the SD card or sending a clip to the cloud.
No ''save option'' when I choose a detection zone. It says it saves automatically. Well it don't, I get alerts out of the zone all the dam time. ( Cars driving by )
Chances are it's your app that stopped working not the camera itself. Part of the reason there is no coverage at the moment on TH-cam is that facts are still coming out about the breach. The company did make a statement acknowledging that there was a breach however the scope of actual data it's still unknown at this time. The company that found that there was a data breach did not follow ethical breach disclosure protocol notifying the company then within hours posting a new story.
Wanderer001 yea I know u can have night vision on or off and auto yea and I thought I heard you say you can’t but in this video I saw it but not here to assume and nice video review
can you down load the recording to your computer then put card back into camera and keep recording. How do you sync camera to alexa so voice operates the wyze cam videos? I got wyze linked to alexa but can not get alexa to show me the camera.
You could pull the card from the camera and download it to your computer and then replace it to start recording to the card again. Hasper working with Alexa you will need a device that has a screen such as the Echo Show for a fire stick TV. In which case you would ask those devices to show you name of camera and it would bring it up on the screen. I did have difficulties connecting the wise app to my Alexa app at first and had to relink it twice before it worked for me.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews wow thanks for the response! Thank Gawd. It would of been super awkward if last owner was alerted. Thanks again! Subscribing and liking all vids
Does this have alerts when motion is detected sent to your phone? Does it work well? I was looking to get one for that feature. Pretty much monitor a room and get notified if someone is in there. Thanks!
It does have motion alerts that can be sent to your phone. Works pretty well it has a slider for selecting how sensitive you want it to be. You can also set a Zone to be monitored in case you have pets.
Despite covering the red lights for night vision, once with duct tape and once with card board I still get this in the reflection. What do you all use to avoid this from happening when trying to video at night thru a window? Thank you
I just got a Wyze cam2 yesterday. Just wondering should I keep sound on and should I keep push notification on? I am learning it, but I really like it so far. I was going to get the Nest, so glad I didn’t. Thanks for such a detailed review!😊
Sound is always good so you can hear what is going on. As for push notifications if you don't need to be notified right away with something happening where you have then camera you can leave it off. But it is good to know right when something is happening in my opinion.
I just got one to test yesterday. Have not even opened the box. What is the maximum distance it can be from the router for it to work? My wifi is in the lower level of my house. Will it work in the upper level of my house?
It should but hard for me to test as I have a single floor condo, which is about 1,200 sqf. Worked fine for me. I did find a discusion about this on the Wyze site: forums.wyzecam.com/t/weather-cam-wifi-distance/25163.
It could, however, the only way to set this up to use is over wifi. Unless you are talking about setting it up somewhere than moving it to a place that has no wifi. Even so you would have to manually take the SD card out of it to view anything if it was not sitting on wifi.
Very nice review! Definitely appreciate the extensive information and walkthrough as I am in the market for a home camera. One thing though that I require is continuous audio recording in addition to continuous video. And how is the quality of the audio during playback from SD card if it is available? Would I be able to hear clearly a conversation in the same room as the camera?
Great review, very minformative, thanks. I only have 2 questions which you didn't mention, I ordered 2 of these today. 1 to set up at my office, & 1 at home. Question I have, is With the 14 day cloud storage, is that per device, or per account. If it's per device, I'll need to make acct using my home email address, & another using my office email acct. Also, will I be able to monitor my office camera from home & vice versa? Thank you.
If your wifi cuts out then comes back online the camera will automatically reconnect itself. During the down time it will not be able to send you alerts, but if you have an sd card it will record the events to the sd card during that time.
google play is forcing me to give a credit card...I dont want my name associated with this phone or app.....is there anyway around this without giving credit card or paypal...?
Your name wouldn't be associated with the phone or the app it would just be associated with Google Play. You can always use a different email address and name with the app which is what I did.
That's weird someone set my Van on fire and the neighbor had this camera and caught it on video. I don't know much about this camera but I do know he caught the incident on video.
I installed the Wyze successfully (and btw my screen for the v2 is different than yours) but I am not getting notifications on my phone for motion activation and I have the notification button in the 'green', I set the zone, I see myself walk by, but I do not get the notification as shown on your phone. Why?
Need to go to settings event recording detect motion. Turn this on and it will send a push notification to your phone. It will also save a 12 to 14 second clip.
Thank you! Very informative video! Thank you for telling a 32GB SD card is the largest it will take. Once I have set this up on my computer, is internet required in the location I use this WYZE camera? Is internet/Wi-fi required if I use the SD card or only if I use the cloud storage. Also, thank you for making this clear that it is BETTER to use the SD card, than the cloud, to record constant recording or motion recording. Is Wi-fi required at a location to watch, on your cell phone, the recording from the cloud, or SD card? May I remove the SD card and insert this into my computer to watch? I have a WYXEC2 on order but have not received it yet! Thank you!
Internet will be required if you wish to view the camera from your cell phone on or off site. You can remove the SD card and place it in a computer to view the files on it. If you are just recording locally turn SD card technically you would not need internet.
I need to install 3 cameras in my condo--living room, kitchen, bedroom--but I am not sure how to go about connecting or daisy chaining them together so I can be alerted to motion on my cellphone. Could you please explain what is the best method for me to follow? Thank you. I think your videos are the best I have seen so far.
Daisy chaining is only for power you can have each plugged into its own power source and as long as they're all connected to the same app and account you will be able to view all three cameras at once.
Have you had any connectivity issues where it will freeze and then the re-authentication process fails? I’ve had that problem with the older swiveling tower model. Not sure if it’s cause of WiFi or the app or cam itself.
Do you know what's the max micro SD card capacity? I know on the official Wyze cam website, it says up to 32gb, but I want to know what's the max. Also, for continuous video recording [with micro SD card inserted], is it true that old videos taken on the camera gets replaced with new videos after the camera runs out of space? And when this happens, does it replace everything or just a few? Lastly, does the camera allow you to access the files via WiFi or mobile in any way without having to pay a fee [if so, how much would it cost and can you access those files via WiFi from the micro SD card itself, rather than using cloud storage] or subscription?
I guess if there's a lot of questions here. First the maximum size of a type of red people have used is 64GB. You are correct that when you run out of space your oldest files will be overwritten first. There is a file structure so that it does not go over everything at once. There currently is no fee to access the save files on your SD card from your phone over data or Wi-Fi.
Great video. I may have missed this. What happens after the 14 free days of cloud?? And after I set up Camera in my cabin. Can I watch it when I'm out of the state for a week until I go back??? Thanks
After 14 days in the cloud the oldest videos will be removed. As long as your cabin has Wi-Fi and internet you can watch the camera from anywhere in the world. As long as you use the app on your phone.
For the cloud storage of the clipse there is no fee. However if you want person detection and what they call complete motion capture cloud storage there is a small fee. However complete motion capture can be avoided by using an SD card on the camera.
only thing i had a problem with was changing the wifi password, seems u gotta go and take it down and add new password ,trouble when u can't find everything u need to do that . u should be able to do that on app. but is great overall and caught criminals from my front door. thanks
I have been looking for years now to find a "baby monitor" for my prizes show animals to monitor for births, predictors and other behaviors. For the longest time I thought I needed to get a nest but just recently I found about the wyze cams. I dont need most of the things it traditional security camera offers, like motion detection and two-way audio. My only gripe about the wyze cam was that I would have to store constant footage on an SD card and there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the motion detection completely.
You only need to store constant footage on the SD card if that is what you are looking to do. You can set it for only saving motion detection to the card, but I am sure there will be a services in the future from Wyze that lets you store more then clips in the cloud. As for turning off motion detection it is possible just have to look through the menus a little bit: th-cam.com/video/gOmpBE75s9E/w-d-xo.html
These work well as outside camera's also when used with a mount for weather protection. Also, being powered by USB that means they can be powered by USB power banks if theres a power outage and your WIFI wasn't affected/use a UPS.
When you set it up you attach it to your Wi-Fi. So if your home or not it's always going to stay on your Wi-Fi. If you have a smartphone you'll be able to check in on it while not at home.
@@johndorris8351 What Wanderer said. This cam is meant to be used with Echo Show type devices or the smartphone app. You pair it using the app and the cam itself to scan a code that the app gives you when connecting it to wifi and your app account.
Thanks for this video! I want a camera to keep an eye on my son for a couple of hours while I'm at work sooo I'm wanting a live stream camera. My question is do I neeeeed to buy a sd card or does this hold some amount of space?
If you're just looking to stream you don't need an SD card. However, if you want to have a recording of the Stream you will need the SD card there is no on-board storage with these cameras.
I will be away from home for 3 months, can I control these cameras fully from afar using just wifi/power? Is there any reason why these cameras are not the best option for me in my case being 2 thousand miles away from home for so long? Thanks.
There is no internal battery. You can plug it into an external power bank and use that. Then it's just a matter of how large the power bank is and how much space you have on the SD card.
I bought mine through, “Wish.” The finally arrived, they only speak Chinese when setting up and do not sync to the Wifi in the house. Nobody knows what to do... I hear the clicks but it won’t connect and recognize the routers wifi. I’ve bought a few through Amazon and those are working fine. Can somebody help before these 4 cameras become paper weights.
Thinking about buying one to check out. I'll eventually end up downloading the pics from the uSD to a Windows laptop, is there going to be any problem playing the videos on Windows10? (Yeah I wish they had a web interface which is what I'd rather use instead of the tiny phone.)
Great review! Was thinking of the blink but the sd memory has swayed me. What is the max memory sd card you can use? Also if it is inside facing out through a window will motion alerts still be detected? :/
32 is recommended by the manufacturer however people of used up to 64. It will still detect motion outside because it's using pixel motion tracking to compare movement so it can't do it through window.
Thank you so much for this video and the answers I needed a few days ago! Please help me with this. I will rely on the SD card to record the 3.5 days. When I remove one card to take home and view, and insert a second 32GB card, what is the correct procedure of that process please? Does common sense apply and I need to unplug/turn off the camera, change the SD card and power the camera back up? Thank you again because this will keep me from having our security alarm company install a camera! Now THAT'S saving some money! Thank you!
That is correct especially if you're going to do continuous recording you don't want it to be recording while you're trying to take the SD card out. You might have to format a new SD card that you put into the camera which can be done through the settings in the wyze app.

They only have one app regardless of camera you use. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hualai
This would probably make it a perfect budget dashcam as well 😀
Only if you wanted to see the feed right away. If you have an SD card in it at least it would record.
How does it handle power outages? If you lose power and then regain it will the camera power up by itself without hitting resets or pushing buttons? I have power backups for my router and modem but a little harder to do when powering the cameras.
After power is restored the camera will turn itself back on and reconnect to your network without you having to do anything.

Nice review. The night IR (INFRARED) lights can be turned off on settings. You can also turn the night vision mode off.
Yes the ir lights can now be turned off it was an update. Which is great they keep improving.
can i connect the device to my home wifi network and stream on my phone on a different wifi or 4g network outside the house ?
Yes that is the best part of a camera like this. You can check in when you are not home. I do it all the time on my phones data or my works Wi-Fi.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews when someone enters the room can it send you a alert that the motion detector has been triggered? Thanks! Great review!!!!!
It can.
That's the best review I have seen on a spy cam. Thanks,
It’s not really a spy cam. This is a regular security camera.
my question is our local canadian tire has these battery back up for cell phones, it states that it will charge a phone up to 4 times before having to recharge. could you plug one of these in to the camera if an outlet wasn't available. i see cell adapters are 5 volt.
Yes you could run it off of a power bank/battery back up. I did it when I was testing just to see if it would.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews thanks!!! now i wonder how a good battery back up would last before having to be recharged. i guess theres only one way to find out, buy one. i just ordered 2 cameras from amazon. no one else ships to canada
All depends on the size of the battery and how much action. Let me know. I have been thinking about doing something like that for my parents.

Does the cams need wires when using them, by exemple, you want one in the garage and one in a room in upper floor... are they only wifi or need a wire to work when you're away and want to see what's happening? Thank you!
Works over wifi, only needs to be plugged into a power source to work
@@Wanderer001_Reviews So if i'm buying 2, both have to be "wall plugged" to work, right?
Technically if they're close enough you can daisy chain them together and have one be plugged into power. But that can get a little sloppy depending on what your setup is like.
@@fredeehoodee5223 yes
very thorough review.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews sounds good, thanks for the quick reply.
No ''save option'' when I choose a detection zone. It says it saves automatically. Well it don't, I get alerts out of the zone all the dam time. ( Cars driving by )
Have you tried adjusting the detection sensitivity? It might help.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews yes I have.... I just relocated the cam to point to more of a dead area in the back ground. Seems to be better thus far.
You can now toggle the infrared lights on and off now through the App. It's good to do that when viewing outside through a window.
can you used this cam facing outside? what do the vido look like
Yes you can, I don't have sample footage of that but here is what I have for inside footage. th-cam.com/video/WD5diRStTlo/w-d-xo.html
My camera stopped working. Now I see a breach occurred from December 4 through December 26. Why is the info not on You Tube?
Chances are it's your app that stopped working not the camera itself. Part of the reason there is no coverage at the moment on TH-cam is that facts are still coming out about the breach. The company did make a statement acknowledging that there was a breach however the scope of actual data it's still unknown at this time. The company that found that there was a data breach did not follow ethical breach disclosure protocol notifying the company then within hours posting a new story.

Can turn on/off Ir lights in advanced settings menu
Yes that's new. I did a follow up on this. th-cam.com/video/4ITUSxOgpXQ/w-d-xo.html
If you turn NIGHT VISION OFF in the settings will it not prevent the IR lights from coming on? Rather than taping them over.
It would but it would also keep the lens in day mode. So it would pretty much just look pitch black and not useful.
I think it is for when you have the camera pointing out a window, at night, to an area lit by street lights or will be lit by flood lights or similar.
That was wrong you don’t need the tape just turn them off in the app

can you down load the recording to your computer then put card back into camera and keep recording.
Is it possible with those cams to monitor "live" on my phone when I'm away or is it record only? thanks
It can do both as long as you have an SD card in the camera.

Wanderer001
I read where the Wyze cam can be used with Alexa. Do you have a video on how it is setup? Thanks
I do not but I can try and put something together.
Well done video and info. Thank you
I just got one to test yesterday.
Question, could I use it with a memory card and not have internet or wifi, and no cloud usage? Thanks and have a bless day
It could, however, the only way to set this up to use is over wifi.

Yes I would say so I haven't had any issues with that. As long as they're not whispering you should be able to hear them.
@@Wanderer001_Reviews Great, thank you for the quick response! Gonna make a purchase now.
Thank you.
It is that each device attached to your account gets its own bank of 14 day could storage. Yes you can monitor your office from home and vice versa.
What happens if my home WiFi cuts out temporarily while I'm on vacation?
If your wifi cuts out then comes back online the camera will automatically reconnect itself. During the down time it will not be able to send you alerts, but if you have an sd card it will record the events to the sd card during that time.
Thanks so much! 😃
what is the USB port for?
Daisy chain a power supply if you have multiple cameras or the power of the bridge so you can use the sensors.
How do you keep the camera charged. Does it have to be plugged in to an outlet?
Yes this does have to be plugged into a power supply.
google play is forcing me to give a credit card...I dont want my name associated with this phone or app.....is there anyway around this without giving credit card or paypal...?
I can see stuff from the cam if I'm not in the home? Like if I'm on my cell phone network?
Correct

Have not had that issue with the version 2 non-moving camera.
Wanderer001 do I have to pay any subscription fees or anything? Or can I just buy it and use all the features
For the cloud storage of the clipse there is no fee. However if you want person detection and what they call complete motion capture cloud storage there is a small fee. However complete motion capture can be avoided by using an SD card on the camera.
Can I view the camera if i am around the other side of the globe?
As long as you have an data connection you can.
Did you change the lens for wide angle? I heard you can swap lenses.
I did not. I reviewed the stock setup.
I do have it hooked up to wifi always and when I'm gone I won't hook up I have a galaxy s9
All I had to do was take it off sd and use 360
only thing i had a problem with was changing the wifi password, seems u gotta go and take it down and add new password ,trouble when u can't find everything u need to do that . u should be able to do that on app. but is great overall and caught criminals from my front door.

Also, being powered by USB that means they can be powered by USB power banks if theres a power outage and your WIFI wasn't affected/use a UPS.
How do you get it to work on wifi when your not home is there a setting can't connect when away from the house?
When you set it up you attach it to your Wi-Fi. So if your home or not it's always going to stay on your Wi-Fi. If you have a smartphone you'll be able to check in on it while not at home.

Thanks.
As long as you have a data connection I can not see why not. I use them all the time when I go away. Not as long as you but gets the job done.
There is no internal battery. You can plug it into an external power bank and use that. Then it's just a matter of how large the power bank is and how much space you have on the SD card.
Are you saying you can not go back and see one day back without the Cloud Service?
No you need an SD card for that. The could only saves clips for 14 days.
if you delete the videos off of the cloud does that reset you time for the free 14 day use of the cloud?
You get 14 days per clip.
Does anyone know what I do if I unplug the Wyze? Does it have to be reset?
No it just picks up again, you can reconnect via the app once it fully comes online.

It can record to an SD card.

I about to buy one but can you tell me if the camera can record with the power cord plugged in. I go away each weekend
As long as there is an SD card in it and a power supply it will record.
Is it possible that they're knock-offs? I'm not as familiar with wish. Do they look the same as the ones you got off Amazon?
Thinking about buying one to check out. I'll eventually end up downloading the pics from the uSD to a Windows laptop, is there going to be any problem playing the videos on Windows10? (Yeah I wish they had a web interface which is what I'd rather use instead of the tiny phone.)
Would this work if your abroad, vacation?
As long as you had a mobile data connection.

That is correct especially if you're going to do continuous recording you don't want it to be recording while you're trying to take the SD card out. You might have to format a new SD card that you put into the camera which can be done through the settings in the wyze app.
