  • Ever wondered how your phone call gets to where it needs to go, even during difficult times of inclement weather? Join me in a secret location in an exploration of what is referred to as a mobile network switch. I’ll show you exactly what it is, and why a sophisticated and well-protected switch is so important, especially during a natural disaster like a Hurricane that is synonymous with Florida and hurricane-prone areas. Now that is an Extreme Network! (Video sponsored by Verizon)
Join me in Part II later on as I explore another switch in California that's all about Earthquakes!

This was especially interesting to me! As an adv rider and datacenter engineer this melded my worlds. :)

Still, wireless does not have the reliability of properly maintained land lines.

I am wondering about the travel path of the call signal? I am wondering once the MSCs figure out the right MSCs for the two phone users, then does the "call signal" just travel between those MSCs? Example, two people both have the same home MSC in Atlanta but they have both traveled to foreign MSCs in Los Angeles, does the whole call have to keep traveling cross country to the home MSC or does it just travel between the MSCs and cell towers in los angeles? Or even only goes from the nearest cell tower to one phone to the nearest cell tower of the other phone once its determined where each phone is located?
