@@julioacceus253 For now, hats off to them for keeping the block as good as they have but between Warner Bros' shenanigans and Sony's owning most of the American anime biz it'll be hard to keep up.
I think the part of Toonami people missed the most was their ability to get us excited for their shows. I really hope the guys who put these promos together went on to be very successful.
Over the years I've been in and out of contact with a few people that worked in that toonami-era. I was only a kid back then, but Toonami & its whole underground subculture played a huge influence on me. Lots of people went on to do great things but never received NEARLY the amount of attention they deserved.... some (morgan studios, dj clarknova) are still making content today, i dont know much about the video editors though... wish i did.
DBZ and Gundam Wing were easily the two defining shows on Toonami, each setting the standard for all subsequent anime on the block. Of course Voltron, Robotech, Sailor Moon and Ronin Warriors helped contribute to that as well during Toonami's first couple years.
Toonami dominated the 2000s. If you are millenial between 25 and 40 chances are you grew up watching this stuff every day. Good times back then much more sane times.
No matter how many times I watched this promo when I was kid, that last scene always gave me a very cold shiver down my spine and a massive amount of goosebumps (and still does)! So AWESOME, oh and um....ONLY TOONAMI!!!
Pretty much. I went through every show used in this to find all the clips (except the very last one). And I placed the new clips over the original video frame by frame. For a longer video like this, gathering all the clips can take a while. I had to find around 75 different clips from the shows to put this together.
MAN I wish I could go back. Even if only for one night to relive all this again for the first time. Getting out of school and rushing home to turn this on to see what happened after the previous episodes of Gundam Wing, Dragon Ball Z, & Ronin Warriors. Sitting down with some dinner my mom made. Then hopping on the Nintendo afterwards and playing some Mario and Star Fox. Those were the days. No bills to pay. No work deadlines to worry about all night. Blissfully unaware of all the bad in the world that was going on and about to unfold.
When i was younger i would get so excited right when i heard the music start playing for this Promo. I would stop what i was doing and move right in front of the TV. Every part of this and all the other promos, bumpers, and intros are imprinted in my brain forever. Nothing will ever top Toonami.
Toonami after Tom became the icon, and only when it had great iconic shows, truly solidified itself as a timeless classic. Anime really gave a lot of people's lives purpose.
Man so many sleepovers where we would watch Toonami and then they would have a DBZ movie or something else later in the night. 90's and early 2000's were so great!
I watch toonami when I was 10 and it was one of the greatest history of my life. So much anime to watch I will never forget this. And I want to thank toonami for live on over this 17 years of anime, Everytime I come home form school I watch toonami every Evelyn and midnight thank you so much for all these memories your legacy will be remember
I remember as a kid coming home from school and being able to watch Gundam Wing followed by Dragonball Z and Outlaw Star. Toonami defined by childhood.
Thanks! I put a lot of time and effort into this one to make sure it looks good :D The scene transition from Hexadecimal to Lady Kayura required some patience lol.
Shows today are fucking trash, the late 90s-early 2000s was the last decade for good animation. AoT doesn't come close to the awesome shows we had on toonami and the OLD adult swim
To you Mr. Slim, much like a brilliant artsist, you remastered a memorable masterpiece of our childhood with care and patience. I truly commend you for this one my friend, I truly commend you. :)
I'm grateful I was a child of the late 90s early 2000s. Got the best era of professional wrestling, and of course, was granted the honor of going home after school and watching Toonami. These kids today with they're luxury of online streaming services. They will never understand that hype of this Era.
I Love This Guy he takes his time and actually remasters every bit of toonami promos from the old days. to very crisp HD. i reward you for that slim and hopefully others as well.
Great upload, haven't seen this in forever and to see it in HD. If cartoon network wanted great ratings all they have to do is re-air the original toonami. Children will love it along with young adults.
Thank you so much for doing this. I know it's gotta be hard to go through all those different DVD/BD's and pull each short clip to make these. Just know that there are a lot of us who truly appreciate the effort you put into remastering our childhood. :)
Okay. What's the coolest clip from this? (Hard decision I know): I'm deciding between: Ginyu tossing that henchman into the sky behind him Anubis stabbing a jerk in the back and then jumping out of the way Vegeta murdering Recoome Wufei blowing a ship with a frickin' laser cannon
My favorite was always the one with Ginyu tossing that guy lol. And I like the transition from Hexadecimal laughing to the scene with Megabyte and the bright light.
This was a few years before I came of age to really appreciate these shows but I remember the day toonami went off air and Tom gave his goodbye and I was incredibly sad...
Many years later, Dragon Ball Z is still getting the most ratings for the block. Granted, it's Dragon Ball Kai now, but still, it's kinda funny to think about that.
I think a belief held in common by a lot of animators in the current industry is that there's nothing really Innovative or revolutionary going on like there was in the early 2000s. The core reason Toonami was so successful and cool was because there was nothing else like it in the animations that they had been able to amass, you could only see them on Cartoon Network. There were other channels that had similar cartoons, but nothing like the Japanese animations that were specifically being shown on cartoon network. There hasn't been anything Innovative or hip or cool like this in the last decade and the market is stagnating. Nothing's changing, there's no new animation style coming out, everything's relatively the same and because of that, viewers are starting to notice.
It's been making a pretty good comeback so far, but I seriously hope they'll put it on more often than once a week. At least they gave us good Tom and they're making promises with Sara.
My god, Toonami truly was the absolute coolest thing in the world. We were spoiled back then. Had NO idea how good we had it.
Let's be thankful it's still here.
Jeremy Burge FACTuals!

This will only be a memory 🫡 I would run home pretending to be goku running on snake way trying to get home on time to see the episode 😢

I know man, brings me to tears thinking about how epic life was as a teenager when 5:00 o clock hit :)

I hope so too

@@tomspiegel5322 They did put it on the Saturday Video Entertainment System block.
Ruronoi Kenshin, Outlaw Star, etc
Cowboy Bebop was one of the most popular shows on Toonami and still gets reruns even today

Same here; Got the chills again during that last scene just now.
Only Toonami could make Sailor Moon look badass.
Also, Hexadecimal is creepy AF!
More violence in two minutes than would be allowed in two years on kid's TV today.
We really had it good, didn't we?
+Yonkage Reboot Season 3 was so fucking violent that even as a kid I thought sometimes it went too far.
Yes we did have it good.
