So I bought a used Sidewinder X1 and always wondered why there would as knocking sound, especially with higher accelerations. I was about to a linear rail for the Y-axis... but then I decided to Google if anyone else was having this problem, and your video came up. Anyways, I replaced the wheels on my SWX1v4, as in this video, and the bumping sound is all gone now! Y-axis is firm and happy. The old wheels didn't look that bad after taking them off, but they had about a millimeter of play when in use. Whatever the cause exactly, replacing the wheels and re-tightening everything has worked wonders. cheers
After assembling the wheels parts, are you able to turn the screw + lock nut by hand? If I tight the wheels that carries the eccentric nuts, just enough to stop it from wobbling in the hole, the eccentric nut gets way too hard to turn after sliding the bed on the rail. If I loose the lock nut hair thin so I can easily turn the screw + lock nut by hand, I can easily turn the eccentric nut, but I get a very small wobble before sliding it on the rail.
Hello ! I followed your tutorial and I changed my wheels. But since, I got really crazy noises from (I think?) my Y axis as the print moves up. Do we need to screw hard the wheels to the plate? Does every wheel should spin around the chassis? I only got 3 of them spinning when the plate is moving otherwise the plate is too hard to move...
Yup! The wheels help keep the bed from rocking. You might also not have the springs compressed enough, make sure the bed is compressed with the springs
Good video. You don't need all 6 wheels though. It's redundant. I've remove the 2 in the middle, so that I've got one in each corner. It reduces the amount of contact and makes for a much easier alignment.
@@stijncuijpers I think it's much better, yes. Think of it like this: if you have the 4 wheels in the corners lined up correctly, and you add two wheels, the are 3 possibilities. 1. Too loose, doesn't add anything 2. Too tight, makes the other wheels redundant and it makes the system more unstable. 3. It is dialed in precisely, and doesn't in fact add anything anyway, because having only the 4 wheels in the corner is enough to stabilize it.

My sidewinder bed can rock up and down a little bit, as if the carriage isnt held in place tightly... would this be caused by these rollers wheels ?.

Indeed much better. Remove the middle wheels. Much less friction
are the white ones better than the standard black ones?
