So relaxing to watch and listen to! Looking forward to making this. Great memories from when granny used to make apple tarts. Thank you for sharing your recipe 🙏
That was a great help. I ve the pastry made and in fridge Clear, comprehensive instructions Sinead, your granny woukd be proyd of your 🎉😊precious shared history together in the kitchen, and savouring the delicious appke tarts over the years .
So lovely of you Delila! :) I got it as a Christmas gift from Stock in Dublin just off St Stephen's Green. I think practicing loads definitely makes things look easy after a while ☺️ Thank you so much!
Whenever I want a recipe video I always seek out an Irish version as the Irish never add a load of unnecessary pretentious bull$hit in their videos, which I find refreshing.
How lovely,yum..I remember growing up around Bandon,an every week we made loads of them..Sour apples were a must, but also cloves?..I'm trying to copy your version..we made country butter, very salty but added a delicious flavour😌
Thank you so much. When I was a little boy I would sit at the old pine kitchen table and watch my mother, who came from Co. Kerry, do exactly this, and I always loved the way she would deftly trim the edge of the plate with an ancient steel knife. I'm going to try and master this recipe. Can I just put the pastry over the top?
John that has made my day I’m so happy you were brought back to your childhood😊 If you were to just put pastry on top I would use a deeper pie dish as my concern would be your apples would leak off your plate ☺️ otherwise for sure you could use just a lid! Thank you for your wonderful comment ☺️
Hello there Sinead nice tart there im hungry looking at it , what would you recommend when one has a gas cooker how long should i leave the tart in for and temps that suit the tart for baking , many thanks ,keep up the good work and videos .
Made it yesterday and it was lovely, i thought you had put too much sugar on, so i put less, and it was very tarte, but still delicious! I will put more sugar on next time :-)
Hi Sinead, thanks for the recipe. It was a success here at home 😊 it might be a silly question but is the plate you used a normal one? I was afraid to use a normal one in the oven ...
Hi Vanessa! Ah that’s wonderful ❣️❤️ not a silly question at all! It is a normal plate but it is one that specifies it is oven safe on the bottom ☺️ similar to where you’d see your dishwasher safe sign. It happened by chance actually that it is oven safe because we’ve always just used plates in the oven for as long as I can remember 🤣
@@SineadDavies 😂😂 I will give it a go next so. It looks lovely in a circular shape. My husband said it was the best apple pie he ever tried. So thanks again!! 🥰
Is there difference between Irish apple tart and apple pie? I’m from Northern Ireland and the apple tarts here I buy from the shop are my favourite - the crust is like sugary topped shortbread. Apple pie recipe I tried doesn’t taste the same.
That's a great question! Yes there is a difference between the two. If you want one like you describe with the sugar shortbread top then I'd have a dig around for an apple pie recipe that you might be able to work with! :)
studying pastry and tarts are openon top and pies have pastry on top and bottom, so did you make apple pie? or is it just a traditional irish way of doing it, I dont want to make a mistake in an exam
Hello, can you just clarify the amount of sugar please! I heard 5-6 tablespoons at the start of the video up then heard 3 teaspoons at the end!! I made it with 4 teaspoons and found it a fraction bitter for my tooth!!
@@SineadDavies Think my family has more of a sweet tooth than I do but will be doing tablespoons. Other than that misunderstanding I'll make it again. Thanks for responding. 💝
@@SineadDavies thank for that oh and thanks for your brown bread recipe I've been making so much lately for my family and they love it. I'm gonna try and see can I make your soda bread next this week😊
I'm sorry, but I had to give up on this recipe halfway through. After 10 tablespoons of liquid (admittedly I used milk instead of water) and half an hour of working the crumbles with the knife, I was still not closer to obtaining a real batter. Finally I went to another recipe and added sour cream and an egg to somehow make things stick. Hopefully the end result will be palatable. Kudos to those who managed to make this according to the instructions! Personally, I am very disappointed with this recipe.
That’s super unfortunate! I’d recommend trying it again but with 5-6 tablespoons of water only. Definitely no milk no egg and no sour cream. There’s a skill to making good shortcrust pastry so I think it’s just more practice!

Just like my Mum used to make. Didn't realise it was Irish but my Granny was Irish so that must be the connection. Thank you for giving me the recipe.

It absolutely can! It's a very versatile pastry leaning on the savoury side :D

Hi John! That's great :) I have never tried this myself BUT my recommendation would be gas mark 6 for 20 minutes to start and see how you get on!
Thanks so much for this lovely recipe and step by step guide. Made it today and it tasted exactly how my granny used to make it.
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! :)
Delicious ...

I love apple tart
Same love it 😍
If you use eating apples you don't have to add sugar.
Very true! Can definitely sweeten to taste 🥰
Can you combine the butter and flour in a food processor?
You absolutely can! I will do that when I don't have a tonne of time to rub in :)
hey .. ❤ can you please make a video on how to make gluten free quinoa bread .. ❤

Hi, can I ask ,is your butter salted or unsalted? Thank you
Great question! I use salted butter but the preference is yours! If you use unsalted just add a tsp of salt to the pastry mix :)
@@SineadDavies thank you Sinead . What size is your Apple pie plate?
If I add sugar to the pastry will it still have the texture of pantry?
You could definitely add a little sugar! It won’t affect your pastry too much, maybe 1/4 cup!

Great idea I’ll certainly add this to the list!!

Never heard of cornflour in a apple tart 😊
Just listen to the young lady telling you the reason why .🤔🤔
It’s an amazing way to soak up those excess juices so you don’t get a soggy pastry base 🥰
Where is the recipe ? I can’t find it.Thanks.
Is it plain flower
Hi Geraldine yes plain flour 😊
Cornflour not used ????
Wait do u put the plate in the oven too when u bake it
Yep you do!:) just make sure it’s marked as oven safe ☺️

I don`t see golden crusty color .Actually looks anemic the tart .
I bake for 35 mins at 180°C and also add a dusting of ground cloves to the apples, along with the sugar. Lovely recipe! Thank you.
Thank you Audrey :) Those are lovely additions. Love how it can be changed up:)
