    Great advice I put a couple of rubber bands around the neck of my canteens and carry a few coffee filters so I can strap them around the mouth of the canteen to filter out the big stuff before I boil the water

    Before approaching the water source conduct SLLS. Stop, Look, Listen, Smell. Josh, you obviously know this but for viewers that might not, that is a worthwhile acronym to know.

      Can't see it myself, wars usually have a commercial intent and WW3 would not favour anyone, it doesn't make economic sense. However, keeping the public in perpetual fear does make more malleable and easier to control.

    Good stuff Joshua we are lucky in North Western Europe and the UK to have pretty high rainfall and so water sources are not a problem. Wild foods are plentiful if you know where to look and sheltered spots can be found. However our biggest problem is that much of the land is privately owned by folks who don't want trespassers. Keeping out of sight is a skill to learn - like my parents said out of sight and out of mind, being quiet and mindful.

    I think the stock tank would be a better deal than a stagnant pond or creek. I wouldn't pass that up either.

    I use my Grayl all the time. Did a 40 mile mtb ride yesterday in brutal heat and humidity, used it five times through the day to keep hydrated. Have also used it in Mexico while traveling there and never worry about the water quality. One of the pieces of kit I use the most, besides maybe my belt knife.

    the live stock water tanks are often spring/well fed & can be great water sources!! great info thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us & be safe!!! you might give the people on here a visual of poison hemlock, many do not know what it looks like & it grows in a lot of fields/trails AND IS DEADLY!!!

    That’s the thing regarding security and a water source. If you found it you can be sure others have, or will. Do you approach everyone as a hostile? Wait for them to leave? Approach and make a new friend? Decisions, decisions…I’m making a get home bag, up to possibly 30 mile trek through the city and suburbs to our property outside the city. Even thinking about it sucks but I have to plan. So I’m thinking of urban sources, but treatment options as well cuz you never know. Another great video, like always.

    if you wan to see an example of questionable water supplies check out some of the through hikers videos of the Arizona Trail stock tanks, streams. In the desert you take what you can get because your not getting anything else.

    I would suggest carrying some flavor packets for water as part of your hydration kit. Just watch sugar content and be aware that sugar will promote mold if your container isn't washed out. It may help you get past poorly tasting water.

    Love the content I have purchased a grayl last year and have as yet to use it because I freezes here in winter aka Michigan. Gonna take it to the gathering in Ohio Ina a week or so and get used to using it. Thank you for Your service!

    Appreciate. That filter is a beast. Off topic question: while you were at water hole, all I kept think about was how would you cover your tracks at a possibly soft/muddy soil situation at a water source.

    • @GrayBeardedGreenBeret
      @GrayBeardedGreenBeret  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I wouldn’t bother, you can offset your route before going up to it and after leaving it. Trying to sterilize a track trap displaces more (just different), and makes you spend more time at the danger area than you should

    The cocky new cowpuncher blares out at breakfast... ''This coffee tastes just like mud!''
    Well it should rooky... it was fresh ground, first thing this morning! replied the Cooky.
    The Trail Boss then smiled a great long whisper; knowing all about the place for all to see, and then asked the Cooky for another cup.
    The Cooky then confides to the Boss: The Rooky was right. Our fresh drinkin' water barrels are gettin' low & so was that old cattle tank edge that coffee came from.

    I've been following the war in Ukraine and in Eastern Ukraine when the municipal water supply was destroyed the local people had to walk from their homes through the cities some distance to a spring or stream and Ukrainian snipers would shoot them in their travels to and from the water source.
    If you're carrying heavy jugs of water you pretty much a defenseless slow moving target..

      So maybe having enough solar on hand to power a workable dehumidifier then?
      From what I've looked up on dehum., you need to watch out that different internals won't contaminate the H20 it produces for you.

    • @areuaware6842
      @areuaware6842 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wmluna381 , Yes, dehumidifiers and AC evaporator coil are not rated for producing potable water, you would at least an RO backup post filter or distillation to make this water safe to drink.
