1. Carpet: A carpet typically refers to a floor covering that stretches from wall to wall or covers a large portion of a room. Carpets are often installed with padding and are intended to be a permanent or semi-permanent feature of a room.
2. Rug: A rug is generally smaller than a carpet and is not fixed to the floor. Rugs are often used as accents, covering specific areas, like under a coffee table or beside a bed. They are portable and can be easily moved from one place to another.
In short, all rugs are a type of carpet, but not all carpets are rugs. The main distinction is size and whether or not the material is fixed in place.
