Considering this was filmed in 1984, that chest of drawers was more valuable than the average price of a house in Britain.

Thanks for posting this. I live in the States and loved PBS"s program from it's beginning. I watch every episode of UK. I'm a sucker for history with a good story

That Tucan is a nutcracker. Indeed an item of purpose

Live in US and love both BBC and PBS versions, but BBC is my favorite. You have items that are so much older, and lots of great art.

I love the items, the history, and the presenters' knowledge and good humor. However, the best part is the people's reactions when they hear the value of the pieces.

Time stamp 22:33 “what is it?”
    I think it’s a nutcracker!
Put the nut in the beak, lift the tail to crack, and the prices fall to the platform below. Yes? ⭐️

As an American who used to watch the American version of "Antiques Roadshow," this is absolutely interesting seeing it from a British point of view. ☺️

"The expensive watches are still in the sort of home's that they were made for" ...after trying to reinterpret it that still seems to be an unwarranted insult.

Fans of the show maybe surprised at the strange opening title music to the show. In fact the title music which we are nearly all familar with now in 2022 was only used from the early 1990s onward.

This is what TV used to look like back in the day, except sometimes it was even worse with static and interference

Did anybody notice the difference between the '70s, '80s and now? Much less obesity then.

One of the funniest thing to me is that Eric Knowles accent is much posher then than he has been for years!

"Where do you keep it now?"
    "In the garage."
    "In the garage?"
"Yes, the wife won't let me keep it in the house!"
Thanks for that exchange, I needed a laugh today but I got more than I bargained for! Considering the size of the boiler, I agree with the wife.

He should put the boiler in the house, and the wife in the garage ...

I wonder if any of these paintings were ever proven, and how many might have gone on to be forgeries.

One of my favorite programs. Was the theme tune composed by J.S. Bach?

could handle all the advertising for insurance in the US but why do the Brits do it....
Advertise for Woodmen of the World insurance I mean. I'm sick of hearing about WOW insurance with them ever showing of Woodmen of the World tombstone. Then they can say WOW!

Back in 1987, when this episode of TARS was first aired, there was no advertising at all on The BBC.
