- Hello Fragrant friends, it's been a minute since the last GBUUO - Good, Bad, Ugly, Underrated, Overrated. Let's quick things off this year with the first episode of 2018 with a Historic and Timeless brand - Penhaligon's is a British house that was founded in 1870 and I am happy to share my thoughts on the brand and all my 12 offerings... The Tragedy of Lord George is an absolute killer. 3 notes listed, but such a unique, warming and just slightly naughty Gentleman's fragrance. And the presentation and performance is superb as well.
I love it but it's so expensive I have to hoard the juice. I wish it was cheaper so I could just spray it like crazy.
Hmm... Where is Halfeti? The best!
Max ... I think you have a million dollar noose my friend .. one try’s to find the Nevada or Shangri-La of perfume.... Penhaligons is so old school . .. it’s the perfect step for the journey. God bless my son .. Lord Edward of Lambeth.
U forgot to mention penhaligon artemisia for men very good smell, i get tons of compliments!
Crazy how in just 5 years half of these fragrances dont even exist anymore. Penhaligon's has a real problem with discontinuing things that are good.

Love Castile! An orange blossom-neroli bomb with a soapy, clean feel. Performance is not bad.
Also, really like Sartorial, just wish performance was better.

Always enjoy the GBUUO episodes, and glad to see you covering Penhaligon's because they make some timeless classics, for sure. While everyone knows Sartorial and Endymion, not many folks are familiar LP No. 9 and Douro...both of which I feel are highly underrated IMO. My overrated would be Juniper Sling...now sure why because it's a pleasant scent, but it just leaves me underwhelmed and smells a bit too feminine to my nose. Cheers!
Douro is definitely underrated It’s amazing. Sartorial the best for me

Great reviews,i own 7 of those,my fave has to sartorial,reminds me of when i was young,wearing brut lol yes i'm 53,but sartorial just smells so good,last's for 8 hours on my skin,always get's compliments.

hi max I own this discontinued masterpiece pre barcode. Not to be mixed up with one by the same name that Penhaligons makes these days for women. I urge you to seek this sublime may beautiful gentlemen's aroma. That just gives and gives. A definite must.......the best Russ.

I Love Elizabethen Rose.... and for a tropical humid country like Singapore, it's a beast. I just got my husband Alizahrin dor his bday, which only 2 person reviewed it. I hope more will review this perfume house.

Have you ever done a review of Caron? In particular, Pour Homme and Yatigan (I never got to try Anarchist). Another masculine scent that's unique is Musc Kublai Khan by Lutens. Keep up the great videos.

Nobody does barbershop vintage throwbacks like Mr Smelly Scentland and Max Forti but nobody is left field like Scentland and Max Forti...Whats better Floris Elite or Penhaligons English Fern ??? Plz somebody help

Excellent narrative. I have not purchases Penhaligons since the early 1990's at Saks Fifth Avenue, Fifth Avenue, New York. It was Blenheim bouquet and Violeta. Where can I buy these in New York as soon as everything opens up with this pandemic shenanigan.
I'm verging on obsessed with Penhaligon's. I'm so happy to have found your video. I just found their Portraits line. I'm so intrigued by it. Anyone familiar with it?
Roaring Radclif, Lorde George, Mr. Sam i find are the best from the portrait line, i haven't really looked at the older classic line yet though.
how do you keep your perfumes fresh? dont they expire after 5 years??
Great video, hardly anyone talks about Penhaligon's, much less a GBUUO list of this house.
Thought Castile was really soapy from the get go, even more so than Narcisco Rodriguez For Him, while Esprit du Roi has a great scent and as mentioned, very wearable! Pity to see it down in the "Bad" section since the longevity was pretty good (6-7 hours)!

Blasted Bloom is one that I like to just sniff.
I don’t know how it wears, but I love it’s smell.

Amazing scent. The Oud smell without oud .. very clever blend of spice and rose
Some of the notes/classifications you described the scents in the videos were wrong.
For instance, Blenheim Bouquet doesn't contain lemongrass, but lemons, limes, lavender and pine instead.
Douro belongs to the chypre, aromatic and not fougere.
Penhaligon's was conferred with 2 long-standing royal warrants from the Duke of Edinburgh (Prince Phillip) and the Prince of Wales (Prince Charles) as a testament to supplying goods or services to the royal household for at least 5 years, not prizes that they won.
You start off by recommending Castille in the 'good' section and then choose that as your ugly choice and go on to trash it . Im so confused.
I take it Penhaligon’s drew on Shakespeare’s Macbeth in naming one of their fragrances Blasted Heath, which, given their heritage, ought not to come as too big a surprise…
LP No.9 is way more than 85% similar to YSL Opium in my opinion. It's almost bang on.
Tragedy of Lord George got me started. Endymion is my go to now.

Whenever I've been to London, I've tried to visit the Penhaligon's main store there and pick up something. Not many people I know here in the states have heard of this house. Great reviews of these fragrances. I love the sparkling freshness of Blenheim Bouquet but sadly it dissipates so quickly on me. You have me intrigued with Lp no.9 which I have yet to try. Something for winter certainly. Really enjoy your channel!

Yeah,castile is one of the best soapy neroli based frags out there with moderate performance.
Hi max ..I own castille. .sartorial ..endymion..I got rid of quercus , beautiful fragrances from a a house that take themselves very seriously , I'm lucky to have a penhaligons store nor far from where I live in Chester England , the shop is fantastic.

I love Endimyion concentrate. Probably my favourite ever fragrance.
Lothair is my favourite from this house, absolutely fantastic! They do winter sales where you can pick up 100ml with 70% discount as it doesn't include a box. So every year I pick up a bottle of Lothair/juniper sling every year for £38-45.... Bargain.
Do they include Halfeti at that price please? 🤔

Biggest problem with this house is PERFOMAAAAANCE, which SUCKS big time, and everybod knows it. The price tag is way too expensive its not worth it. Btw, does Duro have similarities with Ralph Lauren polo, green? tx

What are your thoughts on Opus 1870? I think it's more of a warm weather scent. I wish it lasted a bit longer, but I do like it.
PENTHALIGONS LEVANTIUM I founded in my local storys..whitch batch is best to buy..2014 vintage,2015 and 2016..thea are all originals..but vintages box color is more greenish than others

You should review Halfeti and Roaring Radcliffe. I wear Halfeti and Clandestine Clare which seems to be the feminine version of Radcliffe.

You undoubtedly know your fragrances but a couple little quirks that I picked up on in your pronunciations - I purchased my Penhaligon fragrances in two different stores in London and one in Cambridge and the sales gurus in these stores pronounced the following as such on all the occasions I've purchased my bottles: Castile is pronounced casteel with the "i" being a long "e" sound. Endymion (though I found your pronunciation most interesting) is actually pronounced en-DIM-ee-un. Cheers.

I'm a huge Penhaligon's fan and had to comment here to correct a mistake so when any of us visit a Penhaligon's shop in the UK, we won't embarrass ourselves. Max I love your review but you got "Endymion" way wrong. It's pronounced "en-DIH-mee-un", accent on the second syllable. Not "EN-duh-MY-um". Oxford English Dictionary online will confirm.

Totally agreed that Blenheim Boqueh is overrated. I can see how this made sense hundreds of years ago, but for today, it was one of the most dissapointing buys I ever had.

Bees of St. Ambrose I can't see that, since he included the bad and the ugly too. If you've ever seen one of his GBUUO videos, this one should not surprise you. I for one agree almost a 100% with his review. The only fragrance I missed here is Halfeti.
