I was there ...the away end was magnificent ...we knew we would win the minute the ref blew the whistle .
Not since then have I been to an away game and felt like this .
We also took London bridge after the game and battered Chelsea what a day !

I was at the Bridge, still can’t believe that bloody free kick! We were bloody awful. Watched the away leg on the big screen at the Bridge, we were even worse🤣

They froze at Stamford Bridge and Townsend wasn't fit.

Sometimes I think Ron Atkinson Sheffield Wednesday could have been a real challenge to Manchester United. He had the right chemistry why did he leave? Francis admitted that the season when they finished third in the old division one was Ron Atkinson's team. Francis never change anything. It wasn't until the Premier League started Trevor Francis started to change things around. He believed like many managers you needed 2 20 goal a season strikers. Paul Williams was a playmaker. It would have been good to keep Williams and sign Bright. But the best thing Francis ever did was signed Chris Waddle. The worst thing he ever did was let Eric Cantona go. But David Hirst is probably one of the best strikers this country's ever seen so not critical of that. Alex Ferguson constantly tried to sign him.

I think Ron Atkinson is a lifelong Villa fan? And I think they had more resources to build at the time, so that's what pulled him away. I'm sure he wonders "what if" himself when looking back.
Trevor Francis not changing anything at first was just good management, I think I read him say there were things he wanted to change about players diet and drinking, but he didn't want to upset the winning culture that had developed.
You can definitely say he broke up that winning side too early, but you can't argue with signings like Chris Waddle, Des Walker, Mark Bright, Paul Warhurst, Bart-Williams, Chris Woods, Andy Sinton, Dan Petrescu, Guy Wittingham... okay some of those didn't quite work out, but the ones that didn't turn out to be great signings, seemed like great signings at the time.
If Ron Atkinson had stayed, that side probably could have achieved more, but we would never have signed the likes of Waddle, Bright or Walker.

Any other year, winning the League Cup got you a place in the UEFA Cup. In 55 years of watching SWFC, these few years were the best I ever saw at Hillsborough. It is almost 30, yes THIRTY years ago! WAWAW!

Remember going to this on way back my dads car was wrote off on m1 due to a car crashing in back of the car. We was lucky a mini bus of our fans gave us a lift. The ground was a right shit hole then I’ve been 3 times once in fa cup where we were put into the massive stand they only gave us about 1k allocation Gordon Watson scored.
