Wheelchair user harassed by London bus driver route 168 (currently route 1)

  • The bus driver on rite 168 on 7th July at 8:20pm asked my daughter to get off the bus through the front door which is visibly not accessible and failed to give us a ramp accusing me for not pressing the button. We got on the bus with the ramp through the middle door. This was humiliating after pressing the access button to notify the driver in a good time before our bus stop. We patiently waited for all the passengers to get off without our wheelchair brakes secured and he closed the door in front of us and kept driving. I switched my camera on after he asked me to get off through the front door. The lady in last clip was driving next to me and Amelia and saw us press the button and was in disbelief that we didn't get off the bus with her. Please help me report this to #tfl #transportforlondon #disabilityrights #disabilityrightsuk #humiliated #london #camdencouncil @Transport for London

People i swear to god are sometimes unbelievably stupid, awkward and down to its core unhappy within themselves.
This driver is a person that probably has a family of his own... He seemed pleasant to her even though they were in a arguement as such... The woman clearly didnt signal the disabled bell, as it sirens differently and highlights on the dashboard differntly.
Bus drivers have an incredibly stressful job... People are touched in the head... A pilot is less stressful than a bus driver job and can carry in and around the same number of passengers within one shift....
If ya have an attitude with a driver your clearly lost... Buy a car and get on the road yourself ya absolute dopes

No need to tell the driver to F off, especially infront of the little girl, the ramp should’ve been there for you though, he was putting the child in danger and there’s the question of liability I’d say, maybe the driver didn’t hear the bell I don’t know, I genuinely think the driver actually put himself over very well, ie telling the lady he wants to help I believe him/ but no ramp thats a no no ☹️

Since the 168 is scrapped now, he may have fired himself, i.e. voluntary redundancy

I can't lie bus driving in London its not easy job . The way you get treated by people. And the amount of hours sitting in traffic in London. Can put a lot of stress. Thats why i quit not good for your health 😅. Glad i moved outside London, best thing ever i did. But for this lady to swear at the driver in front of your daughter wasn't called for. Respect to the bus Driver if that was me i wouldn't be claim 😅😂

Did you press the bell for the ramp? The driver should know because it makes a loud noise inside the cab and a symbol comes up on the dashboard.

The driver blaming her for equipment defectiveness. TFL has long known that the access ramps fitted to their buses are frequently unusable, but has done nothing to change them. This was true in the 1980s (I was a volunteer for GAD, handling the roll-out of Dial-a-Ride), and was still true last year (I had to be quite insistent after a disabled person had been left in the cold for well over an hour, five buses having refused them). The passenger's use of American jargon indicates a more demanding culture, but at the same time the risk of damage to her chair's wheels by a four-five inch drop is significant.
