The issue is weirdly enough...Mascot Horror Games. Weve been so accustomed to games like Bendy, Security Breach, Poppy Playtime, Garden Of Banban and so much more. They all have the same story telling, lore, gameplay, etc. These games usually put lore first before their gameplay.
With a game like Dark Deception, its more Arcade-like, playing more like older games from the 90's/2000s where gameplay is more superior than the lore itself. Because of that, it makes it different than most games. Most Mascot Horror Games are more immersive and easy to play where as Dark Deception is more hard. This makes people think that its bad when really, Mascot horror games have been subpar that people are gotten used to this format. But because DD is different (and the wait for chapter 5) this makes it too easy to hate on sadly
When I describe Dark Deception to horror fans I say, “Silent Hill if it were a fast paced arcade anime game.”
The story about Doug taking his family for granted and realising they were the only ones who loved him is clearly based on Silent Hill.
The way each level sticks to a formula and how you get a ranking at the end is based on old arcade games.
The powers you upgrade are similar to fighter games and the art style is clearly based on anime. The fact that Bierce says, “The rings power is even greater than I imagined,” and how she reveals a final special attack in the ballroom cutscene are anime cliches.
Of course Dark Deception is a bad mascot horror game, that’s because it isn’t a mascot horror game. It’s not comparable to FNAF or GoBB. Imagine reviewing the Star Wars movies from the lens of an astrology documentary.
And that's the sad part, it's genuinely one of the most unique indie games who is actually trying to be different instead of just following the same old trope.
Dark Deception should not be getting hate it’s not fair to them.

It isnt even boring or repetitive because each level has competely different maps enemies and mechanics. It just has its base mechanic and it throws a lot more on top of that. Powers mechanics boss fights and also story

they just love to blame it for keeping the pacman part in it, well duh, it's the main mechanic of the game, but it doesn't mean it's repetetive just cause of that. You can pretty much say the same about any other game, it's just always easier to hate on something extraordinary, something you don't understand, and more importantly don't want to understand.

I think that Glowstick probably should have finished the base game before making M&M and SDD, because now the wait for CH5 is even longer

Well, Super Dark Deception doesn’t even involve any of original Dark Deception creators (except Vince, he’s like a director of all their games anyway) and also M&M doesn’t seem to affect ch5, cause all the recent DLC’s were already started in development back in days of chapter 4 release.
Let’s all be clear here. They’re saying that cause they’re just too excited for chapter 5, if the game would really be bad people wouldn’t remember it after 5 YEARS and definitely wouldn’t start all this “hate” marathon. Just looks more like an attempt to stimulate the devs 😅

DD is not even close to one of the worst indie horror game/mascot horror game out there that's insanely disrespectful and I honestly believe theyre tripping if they say that. chapter 1-4 has been amazing. This game isnt bad, it just takes awhile. People are just crying about it, it's stupid and just uncalled for. Youre hating for the sake of hating. There's some bad situations sure, but that doesnt mean the games bad. probs gonna make a video about how I feel people are being cry babys. Because this game isnt bad. "the games repeditive" homie... fnaf? bendy? REBEDITIVE ALL THE TIME YET IS ONE OF THE BEST GAMES OUT THERE. The game is repeditive in a way, but you get tons of new things to use for the gameplay, there's a lot of pros and cons for every game. No need to push about saying the games horrible and is the WORST ever. Thats stupid.

@@Unknown-hq4cp better than poppy playtime imo. Dark deception is full of adrenaline mechanics and constant anxiety and fear. Poppy playtime is pretty much puzzles all the way with a small amount of chase scenes here and there. Not saying this is bad. I love poppy too. But dark deception is where the gameplay experience is at. It reminds you of how games used to be back in the old days. With arcade games requiring skill and strategy to beat.

I highly doubt Chapter 5's absolute snoozefest of buildup is the main factor of this surgence in vitriol. I have had a good amount of criticisms about Dark Deception as a whole which, unfortunately, were only furthermore proved upon Chapter 4's release. The difficulty balancing, the poor optimisation, infrequent glitches... along with a vast multitude of other things. I'm not saying the hate Dark Deception is getting is necessarily "deserved," but I would be lying if I said it wasn't without it's reason and merit. Even more so than other games of Dark Deception's calibre.
Maybe at some point you could make a video addressing all the criticisms and how you think things could go better on behalf of the development of Dark Deception?
Part of the hate is impatience with the slow development, impatience with the bugs that don’t get fixed, impatience with waiting for the next teaser, resentment towards the spin-offs because it takes away development time from the main game, resentment towards the dev team because of the crossovers that go sour and how they offer to publish over people’s games. But most of all, people don’t know what type of game DD is. Is it a mascot horror or not? The internet only knows how to review an indie horror game from the lens of mascot horror. This leads to people having unfair expectations that won’t get met because the game they get is different to the game they are told about.

Security breach is easily worse and garten of ban ban is easily worse. Dark Deceptions lore and cutscenes and soundtrack and characters have already been amazing people are failing to realize that.. especially the visuals this type of thing doesn’t take long people who hate it that much just doesn’t make too much sense it’s either them being salty that it’s taking too long or that they are just simply bad at the game.

Just because they haven't released Chapter 5 yet, doesn't mean that you have to hate the game, they gotta put time into it and try make it good as possible.
Its not about time, they just start every side quest instead of doing the main quest, this is the last chapter, they can just release it then focus on the other games entirely
You know what makes me more mad? - Smacks reaction to it, like he's almost admitting that Dark Deception is bad. I'm sorry, but it is in fact a masterpiece of indie horror and there is no shame of saying that it is in fact even better than titles like Resident Evil because of how unique it is and how much effore was putted into it, hell it's just plays better than games like Resident Evil or Silent Hill, every aspect of it is perfect: from graphics to the gameplay, from characters to the story, like I don't even understand what you mean by saying that the lore is meh, there was no better story telling in horror games for ages than what we got in Dark Deception! Imo, my only real issue is the lack of marketing. I get it can be difficult to choose what to show bc spoilers, but a lot of the fan base knows (some of) the main things that will happen in Chapter 5. (Like Elise and Tammy playing a bigger role, Malak fight, Dark Star and Puppet King appearing, etc)
So imo, I feel like they should show off something simple like just Dark Star in her level. It doesn’t need to be super complicated.

yes i kinda agree that they shouldnt be taking on so many side projects about the main game when its not even finished because take SDD for example, SDDCH3 and DDCH5 are going to drop at the same time and since i firmly believe most people who play SDD do so because they play DD, i believe that most people will run to play DDCH5 over SDDCH3 when they both drop, the only people playing SDDCH3 first are those who found SDD for their love of 2D horror games or people wanting to be the first to make content on it since they know most people are gonna play DDCH5 first then SDDCH3 later.
and im not too worried about cory forgetting about ch5 because he promised he would play it as soon as it launches and the gap between ch3 and ch4 was 827 days while were currently at 953 days since ch4 which is 126 days by so far so not that huge of a difference considering things. its also one of his most popular series and theres people spamming his comments every day to play ddch5 so i think people would be so angry if he didnt. but there is still a chance since ch5 isnt coming out until september at the very earliest.
i think the marketing for ch5 is usually dead because vince doesnt wanna spoil too much because its more fun when a lot of things are surprises but theres still so many things he can show without spoiling. since we have the full appearance of puppet king and dark star through the plushies already the dark deception team can do something where they reveal more and more of the full model with a new pic showing more and more of them every week maybe until we get the full model reveal which will have something for us waiting for ch5 to look forward to. or they can show us a close up screenshot of the floor or wall of a random location and everyone will get really excited still because were desperate to see literally anything. another good idea is they tweet really small almost irrelevant stuff that happens in the game for example they tweet "fun fact puppet king days the word 'the' more than 1 time in holiday horror" and we would get excited still because we are now thinking of him talking and saying that word + more.
the lack of news or teasers does get a lot of people to forget the game which is true because i always see a lot of people saying they forgot dark deception existed after ch4, with some even saying they didnt know ch4 actually released or that they forgot there is a 5th chapter and they thought it ended at bearly buried.
i don't blame people for being even a little bit impatient for CH5, but with the recent release of OSTs it looks like more major content might be on its way.

I had a short back and forth with the shipwrecked 64 dev, who is actually a bit older than me, where I called him out for his unproffesionalism and how Vince would never do something like this. He responded by clowning on me for accidentally spelling like as lime, in my hasty typing. When I called him out for his lazy response, he said he was done replying to "Vince meatrider". (My name is also Vincent). Do NOT listen to these people they don't have the darndest clue what the hell they're talking about.

WHAT??!! AGAIN?!! Honestly, after everything that’s been happening, I’m at the same time not even surprised.
Don't forget the fact that we are still getting news about Super Dark Deception and Monsters and Mortals, Vince also said that he did have family emergencies irl and didn't want Chapter 5 to be a spoiler filled room. I do think that Chapter 5 will be worth the wait.
My problem ain’t the waiting for new content, it’s how they listening to the fans & them making excuses for not being able to. One of them being the fact M&M is unplayable for low end users like me all because of the whole Unreal Engine 5 installment when Yandere Simulator DLC released & they won’t release a version that still uses UE4. Many online games like tabletop simulator have this feature & they work just fine. If they can make it happen, so can M&M!
And another is the fact they won’t make an Xbox One or Switch port for M&M because in their words “Xbox One & Switch are about as powerful as a 2017 mobile phone & that they can’t handle UE5.” All that there is bullshit & nothing but a lie! If this was the case, then why are there UE5 games like MK1 on switch, and why is multiversus returning to Xbox One with UE5?! Also, a Switch & Xbox One is more powerful than a fucking mobile phone back in 2017! It doesn’t make sense how they’re fine with making a port for PS4, but not for Xbox One even though they’re both in the same generation! All they’re doing is making excuses for not wanting to make specific changes & ports for low end users! They clearly don’t care or respect the low end users who like the series just like me!
How about making a video about the Russian part of DD community on TH-cam? There will be a lot of material, there are no such stupid toxic haters like Russian DD TH-camrs in any country other than Russia. (I speak as a person, who is part of this community and lives in this country).
Nahh tbf I kinda forgot about dark deception but I was hyped for ch4 and when ur hyped for something time moves more slowly so when I forgot it was like 2 years by the time I realised and now I’m actually not too fussed
DD is getting hate but those people probably didn't know or remember the pressure on RobTop for the past 6 years and 11 months developing 2.2; more features were being added, bugs everywhere, practically the same as DD but no arguements or breakouts have occurred, just impatient fans that have calmed down. I slightly dreaded 2.2 coming out but the game is healthy again.
I dont think DD is a mascot horror game and I think the hate has come from the frustration some feel because theres no real development or signs the chapter is gonna come anytime soon... This is one of the few games I actually find interesting but I legit forgot about it for a while because I feel theyre trying to do many things at once but not delivering properly with any of them... To me, the main game should be priority but it has been delayed time and time again wdekw anymore...

Some people just hate the main gameplay. I personally love it the gameplay, but some people just think it is bad and boring. Two big youtubers that hate Dark Deception are The Badd3st and David Baron. Why they hate it? I believe that they just dont like the main gameplay. And there is nothing the devs can do to change it. I understand calling it repetitive, i understand not liking the lore, i even understand finding the gameplay boring, but i disagree with everything.
The games meant to be inspired from original arcade games like pacman. There is nothing the devs can do about it wheather they like it or not. They shouldnt critisize something thats simply the core game design.

I think there is something appealing to the repetitive nature of DD’s game design, particularly to an autistic way of playing games. Each level follows a formula (Enter the level, meet the enemy, collect the shards, fight the boss, escape). Each level adds a new power and the enemies get more complicated. The repetition feels safe and comforting for minds that want everything to stay the same. Whenever I’m stressed I like to put on a playthrough of DD because I know what will happen, no surprises, just run around and listen to the sound of collecting shards.
Also, DD portrays autism really well. The struggles and anxieties that Tammy and Elise feel are so relatable. The judgement they get from Doug is accurate to how autistic people are treated in real life, made to feel like a burden just for existing. The CH5 teasers we’ve got about Tammy and penguins also shows her special interests which I’m happy to see. Vince donates money to good autism charities, he clearly knows a lot and cares about the autism experience.

@@SirLucasOfLee There are literally so many games that follow this formula. Having a base mechanic for the whole game and bulding on top of it. Games that are actually repetitive use the same maps and same mechanics over and over without adding anything new. Dark deception does not do that
I'll say this, I agree your point on the fact that this is a niche game. This game is directed to a very specific kind of audience. Personally I haven't actually followed the lore of DD until CH4 and I feel like people are exaggerating that it's confusing. I also don't particularly agree that we didn't get any updates on the game. While there was no commentary or music videos like for CH4 we do get OSTs and QandA from the developer. Do I wish we got more footage? Of course. But as someone who also follows the development of Deltarune I can understand that all we can do as a community is wait. That being said I do understand the frustration the community has regarding M&M and SDD. To me they seem like filler that the developers created to avoid working on the core game. At one point it seemed M&M was getting more attention then the main game, till its progress started to slow.
The Tl;Dr is that as long as there are some form of updates to the development I'll be satisfied.

This amount of time is enough to create a full fledged indie game even if it is just a team of 4 or 5 people. Not to mention but, this team is also quite experienced.
So either Vince just ' don't care' about the community or the recognition his title "was" receiving , or he's just really really ambitious: large project, wonder of the 21st century, cutting edge technology and dynamics, head blowing voice acting, revolutionizing graphics, gameplay smooth as butter , and totally bug free fully immersive 3-4hrs of your entire life , more than real life ..(quit exaggerated ngl). Maybe that is what he wants, who knows its one thing or the other..
Even with all the explanations you gave, I still don't understand how so many people hate this game (and I just discovered that!). Also, the collab with YanSim started before Alex was exposed as a pedophile, and I think they canceled the collab? I never saw the final version of Yansim mode so I don't know if it was canceled or not.
Anyway, DD remains an underrated game! Well, at least for me.
It came out a year ago as a dlc for their multiplayer game Monsters & Mortals, but it was removed a few months later after another controversy around YandereDev

Ok normally I don’t comment on these kind of situations but I feel like I just have to for this one. I’m so so sorry if I sound mean when talking about this situation I don’t want to sound rude. But you cannot and I mean CANNOT say that Dark Deception is the worst horror game. In fact I think it is one of the best horror games that I’ve seen. Now I’m not saying that it’s the greatest horror game ever to be made. But it is a great game to me and others. Also there is no way you can compare Dark Deception with Fnaf Security Breach, Hello neighbor, or Gartan of BanBan. And heck I love all of those horror games too even Gartan of BanBan. But Dark Deception is one of my absolute favorites. The graphics are amazing, the cutscenes work smoothly, the level designs are creative, the lore is nice and simple, and the game is challenging hard and fun. And yes there are a ton of flaws and glitches but you can’t blame Vince. Every game will always have a flaw and that’s ok.
Now here’s the real deal and before I start explaining this I want to point out that this is towards the people who keep’s arguing and yelling towards Vince about the release dates and about the game not being good enough. If you have supported Vince or have been patient I just have to say thank you so much for being helpful and loyal to Vince and especially the community of Glowstick Entertainment ❤❤❤
For the people who’s causing this hate towards Dark Deception I just want to let you know one thing. You guys have been constantly yelling at Vince about when is Chapter 3 going to be out or why Chapter 4 is taking so long and then when it comes out you guys then complain to Vince why is chapter 3 or 4 so broken or why is it so boring or bad. WHY DO YOU THINK ITS BROKEN. You guys have been rushing Vince so much on this project. He’s so overwhelmed on all these comments on why the chapters aren’t out yet. And then when he finally finishes them for you guys you just go on and on the poor guy how it’s not good enough and that it’s a mess. Now I’m definitely not mad at you guys but I am a little frustrated because you guys need to know that making a video game takes so much time and takes years to finish. Take Bendy and the Dark Revival for example that game took years to finish and even though there still was so many ungrateful comments that criticized the Meatly he was able to push through and take as long as the game needed and now look at it. That game was amazing and there are alot of scary parts that jumped me. So back to Dark Deception if you guys weren’t so impatient and rude to Vince he might have been able to do more with this game. So for the people who are causing this mess I just want to say to them very positively and politely. Please don’t rush Glowstick entertainment for making a game. It takes ages to make a whole video game and it’s an achievement to finish it with all the hard work you put in it. Also don’t be so rude to them because the game is hard. The game is supposed to be hard and challenging it’s what makes it fun. Also also Dark Deception isn’t just walking through a maze collecting shards you also are being chased by multiple monsters that use their own abilities . And you do realize you have powers that you need to use to your advantage. This is what makes the game so great to lots of people. So again please don’t hate on this game for the lack of time because you cannot rush a video game that needs tons of work on it for it to be good. 👍

Guys who's hates dark deception without any arguments simply don't know how hard gamedev is. Yes, Ch4 was kinda disappointment, but still amazing. Glowstick Entertainment was just an little group of talented people, and now they have 40+ people working on games. This is progress. And dark deception is such a unique game, with unique community.
What do you mean chapter 4 disappointed you? Give me reasons

@@Destorydan It wasn't the chapter itself that disappointed me, it was Mascot Mayhem. Vince said, "MM will be a huge and hard level." But we got quite a small level, which seems worse and undeveloped compared to, for example, Bearly Buried. Doug's memory section simply saves entire level. Also watch the “animatronic atrocity.” This game is literally Mascot Mayhem that everyone was expecting. In no way do I blame Vince himself for everything, but damn, if the chapter itself had come out a little better it would have been awesome. But chapter so good already :)
