It's creative choices as a drummer that I love so much. He really does play it like a 2nd voice in the band. So glad that @anthonyfrontczak9687 thinks so too. II doesn't try to show off or needlessly place drums everywhere, and that restraint is so refreshing. He'll put a complex fill in somewhere just as an accent where it really works then go back to grooving, or laying down voicing with lots of space. I think his greatest strength is that he evolves his grooves with lots of focus on space in the kick so that we can tell it's the same groove even though he's playing it a little differently each time around. It's akin to a singer singing the same notes, but taking breaths in different places and accentuating different words on subsequent phrases to make the overall progression feel melodic instead of like a rigid repetition.

That’s one heck of a deep meaning… I got this from Song Tell… The song "Atlantic" by Sleep Token is about the struggle to cope with difficult emotions and traumatic experiences. The narrator is calling for a way out of the emotional pain by seeking solace in the “Atlantic” - the sea - in a literal and symbolic sense. The metaphor of the ocean is used to represent the vastness of a person’s negative emotion and struggles. The narrator wants to be “flooded” by the ocean, hoping to be able to “wash away” their troubles and finally find some peace and solace from the pain and suffering. As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the narrator is asking for the help of the ocean to help them cope, but is ultimately only seeking a momentary respite from the emotional pain and struggles they are enduring. At the end of the song, the narrator pleads not to be woken up as they are in search of a safe haven to escape the darkness and find a moment of peace.
In High Water he refers to "all of these scars on my arms" and the last line is "I can't hold myself together". Also in the Video of Fall for Me the written text says "I want to want to live" then later "I want to understand what it is to let go" and then he procedes to walk completely into the water and the video ends. And let's not forget, the album is titled "This Place Will Become Your Tomb". So I really think you might be right here. It would even give a very significant reason for "Are You Really Ok?" to be on the new album.

This song is so spacious and devastating. It's truly like being suspended weightless in the ocean, floating in nothing, disconnected, then suddenly the crushing weight is crashing down on you again, squished like a tin can. Wishing you could stay in that place, that nothing, even if it's sad, just a little longer.
This broke me and I can't even begin to describe how. Man I love how Sleep Token knows how to create something so powerful and emotional and I am honestly crying my eyes to this and it hurts
yes to all of these 5 comments. I saw them live just yesterday and it absolutely crushed me. I could've cried the whole concert through out of poure joy, excitement, sadness, pain and emotional confusion. Sleep Token somehow managed to adress emotions so deeply hidden inside of me that even I had nearly forgotten they existed. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it feels like the most inner part of my soul was being touched. Not just at the concert, also before, but the concert really was a whole new level. But the songs adressing this feeling of hurt in such a beautiful, sad, soft and vulnerable way really fckn broke me. And what also makes Sleep Token so fantastic is that even in songs like Vore, which partially adress this feeling by letting out anger in a loud and agressive way, Vessel manages to put so much emotion in every single word, even if it's not screamed, so you can still hear the hurting in every single line of the song. And that makes it not just fantastic, but so intensely emotional to really actively listen to and fully experience. And that's not just beuatiful, it also seems to affect many of us more than we ever thought that music could which again seems to often times lead to a sort of emotional cleansing, because we never heard our sadness and hurt and vulnerability and whatnot expressed so openly and detailled and emotionally through music and even on stage. That's at least my take, y'all may see that differently of course
This was the first song I ever heard by Sleep Token. I was in bed in the dark. I felt like life stood still when he started singing. I will never forget hearing this for the first time and just crying a lot. Thanks, Sleep Token.
I listen to tons of genre from the heaviest to the poppiest. Never once stuck with a genre and enjoyed everything and being open minded, but goddam this is it. This has to be the missing band we’ve all been searching for. Fucking worship 🙌🏼
@@PickledGopher it's the former. You have a band with a gimmick, and they gain fans with it, and the result is incredibly pretentious fans that live the gimmick more than the band does lol. I love Sleep Token, recent convert, but my God have they acquired your standard "fanboys" at an astounding pace. Just goes to show how good they truly are haha. If this comes off as mean I'm sorry, having a rough go at life for a while now lol I'm cranky I guess.
@@sentientcardboarddumpster7900 I don't think its mean. I was already thinking along those lines too. Just honest and fair observation. Hang in there. Life gets at me too.
Vessel, your music breaks me, and saves me at the same time. Please don’t ever stop making your art. We do listen, and I feel all of it. (I, feel all of it) I’ve been where you’re at, and you and I will forever be (there). It’s due to the world we live in. But Vessel, know that I love you. I love all your songs, and I only found out about you during the darkest time of my life. (Thank you for being you) - a fan
I'm sobbing in my car in the supermarket parking lot. My dudes, you own this scene. You own it all. Nothing has hit this deeply in a long time. Thank you for bearing your souls. Worship.
I discovered this song today and I had the exact same situation. Literally bawling in the car after a workout, where I would normally feel perky. Such a powerful and distinct emotional tone. Bears so much weight and the lyrics just sank in deep. They made me feel and realized that we are so much more than our mere every-day existence. I hope you are in a better place today than where you were a year ago. We all struggle in our own unique way and it is hard to find ways to distinguish the vortex of emotions that dwell within us.
This song really speaks to my soul and reminds me that despite my attempt on my life, I am still here. 11 years later... and it still sucks and is painful but I try my best to go with the flow. Music really saved my life and it is songs like this that make me glad to be alive, but also feel every part of my soul that I keep locked away...

@@Omgr4Gaming It doesn't, "lol". The verse goes "Merry in the morning, earn your bitter fodder" which is in context to what this whole song is about: the bleak and depressing reality and the illusion that we are supposed and trimmed to find happiness in wasting away the majority of our lives just to afford being alive and "happy", affecting us emotionally in a negative way - hence the hinted suicide attempt in the 2nd verse and the overarching theme of drowning. It becomes even more obvious by the follow-up line "It's easier to try not to eat" if you still don't get it. Please give me an explanation of what "Marry in the morning, earn your bitter father" would even mean, because that is certainly not something any native speaker would come up with.
Stay strong brother, you are important to many people, you are loved, I'm crying when I type this and I really wish I was there to hug you... don't give up, we're all here for you! Sorry if I made a mistake, I don't speak English!!
@dt-725 please remember that any dark feeling you have is only temporary. Your thoughts will lie to you. You are more important than you can even imagine.
You know for the first three minutes of this song, II was just sitting at his drums like a dog with a treat on the end of his nose, fucking vibrating with excitement and energy, just waiting for Vessel to give the 'release' command.
I lost my childhood dog this year and this song reminds me a lot of him and makes me cry a lot. Thank you for making this Sleep Token!! 🖤 Edit: I listen to this everytime I get on my college bus as it's probably my favourite song apart from Gods
I am just a man. Sitting alone at 3 am takin a sip of whiskey and writting medical reprots. Lost inbetween thoughts and feelings. Does it matters? Who am I, and what I mean to you? Just a quantum bliss. Wanna cry but I am asshamed of it... Went through my own death, dealing with other deaths, trying to help. This song helped me cry...
A month in a half later, it is criminal how there are only 115k views. This is one of the best songs I've ever heard and easily one of the best album openers ever (in my opinion).
It’s strange how masses of attention tend to spoil things, it’s natural to want the entirety of civilization to share in things that speak to us so profoundly, but in the end it’s not meant for everyone, especially in a world where poetry and music have become less and less of a united pair, and the appreciation of it far more scarce.
I had this album fresh in my car stereo a few years ago, taking my daughter to the gym! Man, I couldn't hold them tears back. First I thought: "Ah, the guy wants to copy Coldplay (I don't like Coldplay)! - - - THEN: Oomph! That drummer, the odd song structure, sooo unique. And just everything, so dark and so true.
I've followed Sleep Token since the release of Two, and honestly the more traction they get the more i think they're shaping up to be much more than just a band. Their whole conduct, appearance and sound is like nothing ever done and i think they could bring the entire alternative music industry to heel. I wish them every success and more going forward
I'm so sad I learned about them so late, BUT I'm here now and obsessed. I keep hearing they are a religious experience for non-religious people and I can feel it.
i have no words for the way this song makes me feel. my intense depression goes away for a bit, but always come back. i come here when things get dark. i hope it gets better and i can be happy again. i hope nobody feels the way i do. i barely make it through work with the panic attacks and anxiety. it sucks because nobody knows how i am feeling, i always portray happiness so they all assume i am fine. i cant anymore
Hey, keep going buddy, I've been depressed for a long time and all I can say is that it gets better, don't hesitate to find a support group, sending you love!
The easter are coming, always the hardest time for me. When I feel a total emptiness inside and a GREAT longing for my parents. I release my deep emotions to music. It gives me so much strength. Regards
Thank you to each and every one of you who has been along on this journey with me. Whether you're hearing this for the first time or the fiftieth. Whether you've been here since before Sundowning, or if This Place Will Become Your Tomb is your first Album. I hope you all enjoy this album as much as I did, enjoyed Atlantic as an opening track as much as I did. I'll have it on repeat for a long time. Worship.
I think sleep token is a genre by itself. This band brings some kind of emotion and passion up in me (and i think in everyone who listens to it) that makes me feel so connected with my emotion for the first time in a very long time. For the first time since i was born i've got the feeling that we've been sleeping on something that possibly could be in the top tier of music. Some kind of genre that is so unique and so well put together that it's damn fucking close to perfection. Thank you sleep token, thank you for existing, and see you at Graspop in less then a month ❤.
2:52 I can already imagine them playing this part live as the whole stage turns blue and the concert screen shows someone diving underwater. Around 3:49 you would see the Sleep Token logo and the madness begins. Worship ❤️
Thank you for reminding me there is still magic left in this world. That we can still feel something and experience beauty through the pain; the harsh monotony of daily existence doesn’t dull the spirit, that the divine still moves within these cynical bones. Thank you 🖤
Dec 2023: Aagainst my soul's desire, I had to turn down the volume so i can hear my thoughts. This song is the beginning of my ST journey from back when I was sick mentally and phisically. 2020: I didn't know it back then, i just knew there was something wrong with me. Sleepless nights. agonizing pain both mentally and phiscally to the point where i would question my uprising until that moment. Was 🤏close to just puttintg an end to it all, tried to go back to old feel goods, nothing worked. Then, one morning I see this song in my feed. I've heard about you before but wasn't the right time so i just brushed you off. I thought "whatever man, anything to get me better" and I clicked. I'm a musician, an old shcool one so when i first heard the first 2 notes I was like "ok, I've heard this before and liked it, you better not fuck this up" and you did not, i wasd hooked ever since. I listened to everything over the past 2 days and loved every second of it. The way you spoke to my soul unlike anything spoke to it since i wasd a child is outerworldly. Vessel, you saved me, and i will always be grateful, WORSHIP!
Sooooo is no one gonna mention how great the transition from "bloodsport" to this as an opening track is? Both heartbreaking piano driven songs. One closing the first album and the second one introducing us to the new era of sleep token.
This is such a beautiful track! It gives me the vibes of what its like to drown looking up at the distancing surface of the water while Lightning conflagurates the sky heavily through a surreal blur.
The second verse speaks of horrific trauma. And for the love of everything, I didn't need to start dragging things back out again! 😭😭😭 This band is single-handedly trying to precipitate my breakdown!
Since i don't see any comments with the lyrics... Call me when they bury bodies underwater It’s blue light over murder for me Crumble like a temple, built from future daughters To wasteland when the oceans recede Bury in the morning, and your bitter father It’s easier to try not to eat So flood me like Atlantic, bandage up the trenches Anything to get me to sleep I woke up surrounded, eyes like frozen planets Just orbiting the vacuum I am They talk me through the damage, consequence And how it’s a pain they know they don’t understand Sorry as they turn to statues at the bedside I’m trying not to crush into sand So flood me like Atlantic, weather me to nothing Wash away the blood on my hands Call me when they bury bodies underwater It’s blue light over murder for me Crumble like a temple built from future daughters To wasteland when the oceans recede Don’t wake me Don’t wake me Don’t wake me up Don’t you wake me up Don’t wake me Don’t wake me up
I interpreted it as something like waking up after a suicide attempt? Blue light over murder = Ambulance Lights I wake up surrounded, eyes like frozen planets Just orbiting the Vacuum I am The talk me through the damage, consequencd And how it's a pain they know they don't understand = Maybe Family standing around the bedside and their reaction
i didnt know that goosebumps take that long :) A 4:52 minute of masterpiece. Wet vocals, amazing piano melody, outstanding synths. And the final boss: 8 strings guitar with octopus drummer !
Every song is utterly incredible. But this one is my current favorite. That'll change. But this is one of the greatest album openers I have ever heard.
Sleep Token, you have been played daily for months. At times my mental illness is crippling and each of us will have our own interpretation of your music but to me this is about struggling with mental illness. Your music is a gift and I look forward to seeing you in August (in Indiana). Worship.
What a deep meaning song. Vessel deserves only the best. I don't know him in person, but he seems like a humble and nice person with a big heart. And talented of course. I know how it's like to deal with self hate, depression and anxiety, so I can relate... and since my sister's death everything got much more worse...
those haunting sounds at 2:54 are like the sound of whales singing and it gives you this feeling like you are in the depths of the ocean...how they are able to put it into music is mystifying 💙🖤
The metaphors in this song are so strong that I do not understand practically anything of what he is saying (I am autistic) but I feel every fucking word that he sings, the little preview of this song cautivate me in some way Instantly I knew that I connected with this song and that it would be one of my favorites no matter the way,the melody, what I did not expect was that intro, so moving ohhh god ..when the song change I feel the mystery too much ,when the synth hits reminds me of the sound of whales or some creature from the deep sea,and the effect of the Vessel's voice in the "heavy"parts feels like submerged in a big and chaotic ocean,it is a total kinesthetic experience for me ...
Just read your comment after posting mine, and I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who realized that it kinda sounds like the calling of humpback whales, it is absolutely beautiful, specially because whales are my favorite animals. Also, I kinda get an eerie vibe from this album, specially from this particular song, it reminds me of a certain Eldritch God that may or may not slumber beneath our oceans.
@@axelnova123 yeah we can say that this album is based in the descent into the deep sea, cause the markers in meters in the visualiser (like this one the first 914 meters) also the art cover, and the diferent creatures from the depths of the sea as a artwork from every song in the album, also some effects in songs and some sounds and lyrics,a complete deep sea atmosphere here, reminds me the descent of Jaques Piccard and Don Walsh aboard of the Trieste and when they descended to the deepest point where the human has reached the Challenger Deep the bottom of Mariana's Trench ,10 924 meters as the last song of the album Missing Limbs !!
This album has had me in its grip the whole day. I genuinely don’t know how they are able to create music that doesn’t just touch my soul, but match its resonance. Thank you. Worship.
I'm just writing a story to my antology and listening to this really does makes a difference when you try to feel what your characters are feeling. Thanks so much for existing, Sleep Token folks 💝💗

Vessels voice just sounds so incredibly angelic here, mixed with the piano it's so beautiful to listen to
I listen to tons of genre from the heaviest to the poppiest. Never once stuck with a genre and enjoyed everything and being open minded, but goddam this is it. This has to be the missing band we’ve all been searching for. Fucking worship 🙌🏼
Worship
Nailed it in this comment.
Good comment. But I wonder if people say worship just cause others say it. Or do they actually worship 'Sleep', the deity. ( Not Vessel or the band)
I can't find the right words to describe how their music makes me feel...unlimited respect.
(Thank you for being you)

I fucking feel this comment and they are helping me through some bad shit right now
I can relate to this comment. Hope that Vessel reads it...
Call your mom an them every now and then, I’m sure that will help.
Why is your comment only about vessel? What about the other members?
@@Drake45100 “Sleep Token” as a whole.
But I’m deeply reminded of Bloodsport when I hear Atlantic.
I meant with no disrespect.
I'm sobbing in my car in the supermarket parking lot. My dudes, you own this scene. You own it all.
Nothing has hit this deeply in a long time. Thank you for bearing your souls.
Worship.
LOL my guy you gotta be careful where you spin this one 😆 happened to me at work
I discovered this song today and I had the exact same situation.
We all struggle in our own unique way and it is hard to find ways to distinguish the vortex of emotions that dwell within us.
this melody reminds me the lullaby "hush baby, dont you cry". It makes the lyrics even more poetic and beautiful to its meaning
One of the best and most important sleep token songs ever written.!!
Even your comment too
[Verse 1]
Call me when they bury bodies underwater
It's blue light over murder for me
Crumble like a temple, built from future daughters
To wasteland when the oceans recede
Marry in the morning, and your bitter father
It's easier to try not to eat
So flood me like Atlantic, bandage up the trenches
Anything to get me to sleep
[Verse 2]
I woke up surrounded, eyes like frozen planets
Just orbiting the vacuum I am
They talk me through the damage, consequence
And how it's a pain they know they don't understand
Sobbing as they turn to statues at the bedside
I'm trying not to crush into sand
So flood me like Atlantic, weather me to nothing
Wash away the blood on my hands
[Verse 1]
Call me when they bury bodies underwater
It's blue light over murder for me
Crumble like a temple built from future daughters
To wasteland when the oceans recede
[Outro]
Don't wake me
Don't wake me
Don't wake me up
Don't you wake me up
Don't wake me
Don't wake me up
"earn your bitter father" in first verse
@@Omgr4Gaming nope, "earn your bitter fodder"
Nope it's 'bitter father'. It even makes sense in context to the verse lol
@@alchemist3886 Yeah I think it is lol

You know for the first three minutes of this song, II was just sitting at his drums like a dog with a treat on the end of his nose, fucking vibrating with excitement and energy, just waiting for Vessel to give the 'release' command.
I lost my childhood dog this year and this song reminds me a lot of him and makes me cry a lot. Thank you for making this Sleep Token!! 🖤
Edit: I listen to this everytime I get on my college bus as it's probably my favourite song apart from Gods
I am just a man. Sitting alone at 3 am takin a sip of whiskey and writting medical reprots. Lost inbetween thoughts and feelings. Does it matters? Who am I, and what I mean to you? A month in a half later, it is criminal how there are only 115k views. This is one of the best songs I've ever heard and easily one of the best album openers ever (in my opinion).
Dont lie, you want it to stay your special thing, quite a conflicting mood.
It's been almost a year now and it's only at 380k views
It’s strange how masses of attention tend to spoil things, it’s natural to want the entirety of civilization to share in things that speak to us so profoundly, but in the end it’s not meant for everyone, especially in a world where poetry and music have become less and less of a united pair, and the appreciation of it far more scarce.
@@extraordinarilybasic3250 its quite unique feeling I agree
Honestly, it isn’t meant for everyone. Most are not hardwired for the cerebral.
He is just so vulnerable with his lyrics and voice.. I can feel it, every word, every note. Worship.
This song makes me cry every damn time dude. It’s a song that really resonates in the most gut wrenching way
I had this album fresh in my car stereo a few years ago, taking my daughter to the gym!
I been with them since the start.
Were you at the Kings Cross show as well my dude?
Well, they certainly got the success you wished for😂
Absolute masterpiece. This is my favorite song off the album. That haunting piano is so cool then the band comes in a kills it. 10/10 album. Worship
You may already know my now but vessel writes and records everything except drums
THIS... This song always guts me and tears me to pieces
This is my favourite Sleep Token song, The piano and drums the voice it’s perfect
I'm so sad I learned about them so late, BUT I'm here now and obsessed. I keep hearing they are a religious experience for non-religious people and I can feel it.
I was completely captivated at the first listen! Still am after about 20 listens, such an amazing track!
I can't help but cry whenever i hear this song, its absolutely beautiful.
The uniqueness of this group is astonishing. People....please listen to their FULL CATALOG of material. It will COMPLETELY blow your mind...
i have no words for the way this song makes me feel. my intense depression goes away for a bit, but always come back. i come here when things get dark. i hope it gets better and i can be happy again. i hope nobody feels the way i do. i barely make it through work with the panic attacks and anxiety. it sucks because nobody knows how i am feeling, i always portray happiness so they all assume i am fine. i cant anymore
Have you talked to a doctor? Wishing you the best this too shall pass.
Hey, keep going buddy, I've been depressed for a long time and all I can say is that it gets better, don't hesitate to find a support group, sending you love!
I just keep coming back and falling for this song. Simply Genius. Oh yeah and the Drummer is a UNIT.
I can't get over this song, it's fucking excellent! * Mandatory "drummer is an absolute unit" comment *
Top 3 AOTY for me ♥
Absolute beast!
they're brilliant. the drums on "gods" from their last album is some of the best drums in heavy music (imo of course)
May that line never die
What about when Stoneside release their next EP?? The Water EP is 🔥 Very Sleep Token-esque
Absolutely an AOTY contender for me too, and it's not an easy year.
And now am addicted! Have no words to explain how good am felling right now. Thanks Sleep Token for existing. Worship

My first time hearing this......sooooo damn good
Tears were streaming down my face without me noticing until the end of this beautiful song.
Worship ❤️

This is the most beautiful song I think I've ever heard. I've always loved imagery about the Atlantic, but this is truly breathtaking.
Thank you for reminding me there is still magic left in this world. That we can still feel something and experience beauty through the pain; the harsh monotony of daily existence doesn’t dull the spirit, that the divine still moves within these cynical bones. Thank you 🖤
This band really is the best thing I've come across in such a long time, they deserve so much more recognition
I'm still mesmerized by this song. Album has been on repeat since September 17, 2021
This is shattering me and putting me together at the same time.
This just hits so differently......absolutely stunning
Sooooo is no one gonna mention how great the transition from "bloodsport" to this as an opening track is? Both heartbreaking piano driven songs. One closing the first album and the second one introducing us to the new era of sleep token.

When I heard the preview they put out earlier in the week I immediately connected with it somehow. I knew this one would hit me. This is stunning.

This is such a beautiful track! It gives me the vibes of what its like to drown looking up at the distancing surface of the water while Lightning conflagurates the sky heavily through a surreal blur.
This band is amazing. His voice is so powerful.
The second verse speaks of horrific trauma. And for the love of everything, I didn't need to start dragging things back out again! 😭😭😭 This band is single-handedly trying to precipitate my breakdown!
Since i don't see any comments with the lyrics...
Call me when they bury bodies underwater
It’s blue light over murder for me
Crumble like a temple, built from future daughters
To wasteland when the oceans recede
Bury in the morning, and your bitter father
It’s easier to try not to eat

Anything to get me to sleep
I woke up surrounded, eyes like frozen planets
Just orbiting the vacuum I am
They talk me through the damage, consequence

So flood me like Atlantic, weather me to nothing
Wash away the blood on my hands

Don’t wake me
Don’t wake me
Don’t wake me up
Don’t you wake me up
Don’t wake me
Don’t wake me up
Can't quite catch the meaning of parts of the lyrics

This being sung from the perspective of a whale dying or something? Where do the eldritch like Gods come into play?
I interpreted it as something like waking up after a suicide attempt?
Blue light over murder = Ambulance Lights
I wake up surrounded, eyes like frozen planets
Just orbiting the Vacuum I am
The talk me through the damage, consequencd
And how it's a pain they know they don't understand = Maybe Family standing around the bedside and their reaction

those haunting sounds at 2:54 are like the sound of whales singing and it gives you this feeling like you are in the depths of the ocean...how they are able to put it into music is mystifying 💙🖤

@Robs ahhhh that's why we love music,this band !!
In case you’re wondering, the songs most likely based on a failed suicide attempt and depression.
The tune starts up like a sad lullaby. It's so emotional and beautiful
