I’ve had Donald and Douglas for years, never thought they were fake, I’d always run them with my trackmasters and they always felt and ran just as well as the legit ones, now to discover they’re fakes is crazy.
I personally like using bootleg trains for customs because sometimes they have parts the originals didn't have plus you don't have to destroy the real ones
These guys are probably the most affordable versions of these characters that I can get, so I’m sticking with them. They look fine enough to me, so I don’t mind that they’re off-brand
I actually got a fake Trackmaster Douglas as a kid and I didn’t figure it out till a year ago, now I have a Hit toys Douglas and I love him to death. But I still keep the Fake Trackmaster Douglas because he was apart of my Childhood ❤️
Ngl fake trackmaters are very well made. I’m actually planning to get one myself! One thing I noticed is that the fake donnie’s entire body comes off when putting in the batteries. In the Tomy version, only the boiler pops out when opening it to put in the batteries. Idk, maybe they did it differently in TM? So that’s something I noticed.

Holy sh!t. I have this EXACT model (and Douglas as well) and they’re KNOCKOFFS?! I just thought that some of the weird things about them were from them being old models. I originally thought that the buffer beams were pink due to sun damage, but… damn.
The core inside of that with the spring is actually one that was officially produced, I have a thomas with that in it that came from the Risky Rails Bridge Drop Set. The somewhat stiff switch is also an issue with the official ones. Interesting how they chose that one to replicate, I would have thought that the metal plate would have been easier to make than the spring.
Impressive! I got a suggestion since you have Donald. Since you have the green Thomas and black James, maybe you can have Donald and Douglas (when he arrives) and make them blue.

The fakes are so good at this point, that there are minimal differences. And they are quite cost effective compared to the real ones, so if someone bought one I couldn't really blame them for it.
The fact that we live in an age where duplicate KO’s are getting to the point where they are acceptable options since the original item is rare, is mind blowing to me.
This has me legit wondering, if it looks like a TrackMaster and walks like a TrackMaster, does it matter if it’s fake? Yes, I am aware that trains/train toys can’t actually walk.
I mean if you ask ME?? Not really haha, but you should still be aware it’s not an authentic thing and maybe be wary because of it. Like if I were a parent getting it for a child I wouldn’t want small parts breaking off or weak plastic which could probably happen? Being older though he’s just a member of the collection 😅
I would use the fakes for custom locomotives, but that's just me. Like for example on this Donald I would sand it a little and get the stickers off, paint it Caledonian blue and use the special paint markers for the striping, window edges, handrails, and then maybe use some custom made waterslide decals for the Caledonian Emblem and stuff on the tender.
I got Bash, Sir Handel, and Dennis. The only reason i knew it was fake was because it refused to go backwards. Old trackmasters make a clicking when they go backwards.
Honestly im debating now if i should get one of these rather then spend 100+$ on a real one cause damn its actually impressive how similar it looks to the real one
It really is scary how accurate Donald & Douglas are. Out of all the knockoffs I’ve seen, these along with Splatter (or dodge I don’t really remember) are the best.
When I got my Donald and Douglas fakes, they both came with sun faded faces. It also didn't help that they kept falling of the tracks due to them having thinner wheels. But at least they didn't explode. Overall, 5/10 for me.
With the battery-motor chamber looking like that, DEFINITELY I might have a chance of repairing my Tomy/Plarail Scottish twins and they'll both be able to run good as new for sure someday.
I know you probably wont see this since im kinda late but i have both of these and have bad no issues at all, even with mods i have to make his tender closer and a front coupler he stands strong

I bought a lot of them for customs I did, such as Derek, Sonny, and some OCs. Some were made from Fake Douglas models (Identical to Donald but different nameplate).
Ok I’m pretty sure I had this mother fucker. I definitely lost the engine, but I have the tender. I’ll have to check. However these things have enough quality to be not as dangerous as other fakes out there. Seriously I think they’re actually cool. I’m probably gonna pick up a Splatter to match my Dodge. But I do want the Tomy Donald & Douglas. Keep in mind if you do want the og ones, they’re incredibly rare. Because Plarail Douglas was released Once in the snowplow set. Donald was released on his own however. Douglas was later released in MR&R by himself. Then both were released the same way in HIT form. Either way, these things are surprisingly authentic.

Those fake Trackmasters always look so weird, some ways to tell if they are fake is that they’re cheaper than the real Trackmasters, they look so weird, they run on different types of batteries than the real ones and they have different types of motors and what if they made a fake Trackmaster Stepney where you take him apart differently and he runs on a different motor unit thing.
compared to the WR fakes, these are unreasonably accurate 😅

The main concerns around knockoffs like this for me is no way of telling if lead paint is used
lead paint is only really dangerous if you're putting it in your mouth

Honestly i think the maroon color works with the black, even if it's not accurate to the show or original tm model it's copying.
