This is a video explaining very early Islamic history. It is meant purely for educational purposes, not preachy. So please keep the comment section civil or I will bring out the Banhammer (no personal insults, no discrimination, etc.).
    Frequent Comments Answered
    1. The reason for this older art style is that I made this series of videos back in 2017. They are unlisted because I use this channel as a portfolio and due to the taboo nature of the subject decided to unlist them for a while. But that's no longer necessary so here they are again!
    2. Did you become a Muslim? - No. the point of this video is to explain the worldview of a mythology which isn't covered a lot. It's meant for people who, as with all my other videos, don't know a lot about the subject and want to learn more.
    3. You're not allowed to draw this - Yes I am. Free speech is protected by law in my country, Ireland (where google is registered for EU citizens), and the USA (where this platform is located).
    4. You shouldn't draw Muhammad because it's offensive to some people - Well, then don't watch the video if you find it offensive. This video is educational for a non-Muslim audience. You cannot expect people to conform to your own religious beliefs, just as I won't demand you to conform to mine.
    5. Any form of (death) threat - please email them to me directly. Add the subject line "death threat" so I can delete it immediately. ...please stop acting so childish... Most of us haven't made silly death threats since we were angsty teenagers.
    6. Parts are inaccurate - There are various denominations of Islam, so I chose the middle ground on which most sources agree, favouring actual historical sources over mythological ones. So if you learned or heard something else then it might be because that particular denomination believes differently.

Ps, the best thing about the TH-cam banhammer is that you can "hide" someone. So any comment or reply they make will be hidden on all my videos. They will still see their own comments and replies, but nobody else will.

Be as curious as you like, but once you put 1 and 1 together you can not unsee. Read the qu'ran and prove your curiosity. Muhammad's acts were just as wrong as any other barbarism at the time. Being stuck in a mindset, a religion stuck in these times, objectively proves that something is wrong with you. Either brainwashed, stupid or evil. It's the antithesis to atheism, which people only "convert" to by their own volition and rationale.

@@googleuser9383 One thing I came away from this video with, are some of the various strategies that were employed in battle and diplomacy in the story. Sure, you might call that "barbarism", but it's something you can apply very easily to things in your life such as dealing with adversarial colleagues at work. I'm saying this as an atheist myself. There's a reason these stories have a mass appeal. You need to be able to extract these core aspects of different religions in order to understand how the people around you work. You can learn a lot about your neighbor living in a christian suburb in Georgia by reading an ancient Chinese text.

Also, you forgot to mention the part of
Islamic history where their followers were early on violently persecuted in Mecca, and were forced to flee to Abyssinia (modern-day Ethiopia), where the Christian king welcomed the followers of this new religious sect and protected them from attempts by the pagan Meccans to extradite them.

Good video. There are several inaccuracies however that i will list for you.
The Tribe that Muhammad belonged to is Quraish (which effectively ruled Mecca) but he is a member of the Banu Hashim clan. Tribe-->Clan-->Family
A Muslim man is allowed to marry up to 4 wives not 3. Also Kahdeeja was 15 years older than Muhammad, not 20.
On a side note, It is true that Aisha's marriage was considered controversial even back then but Aisha herself grew to be the most powerful and intelligent woman in Muslim history, many of the Hadiths Muslims follow are credited to her as she was the first who heard them and wrote them down. When others criticized Muhammad for marrying her young she would scold them and take pride of the fact rather than shame.
Now my biggest issue with this video is not these mistakes, nor that you chose to portray prophets and God. My biggest issue the subject you brought up about the existence of Muhammad himself. This is a very weird thing to even mention since your only argument is that there are no written records of him existing. You do realize that unlike Jesus, Muhammad lived in the backwater region of Arabia where there was no central government at all to make censors, like the Romans, nor where there many literate people to write those records. Arab tradition is entirely oral and only after Islam did they start a written tradition. If everyone in the Arabian peninsula at the time can attest to the existence of one man, albeit verbally, then there is no doubt that he did exist. Unless you are accusing thousands of people who lived at the time of being subject to a mass hallucination. There is also the fact that millions of people around the world are descended from him and Muhammad does have a family tree that links him to other people.
Other than the aforementioned, i agree with most of the info you provided in the video. I would grade it as a solid B.

That's some of the evil in the Qur'an. BUUUUUT, that's not unique to the Qur'an.
All of that evil is more or less in the bible and torah too. All three of the religions are evil - Christianity, Islam and Judaism. It doesn't mean the practitioners are. Some of point in this video a high condensed, minimize and sometimes wrong.
    1. You drawn Abu Bakar and Ali feuding with each (at some point in the video) other is will fully wrong. In actual fact Ali and Abu Bakar never feud with each other their follower did. When Abu Bakar ascended as the leader for Islam, he himself visited Ali and asked to not to have any bad blood between them. Ali with all his greatest does not harbour judgement toward him.
    2. 27:33 Yeah Muhammad never able to participated in the Muslim conquest because he is dead. Those conquest are mainly been done by his successor or the Rashidun Caliphate. That's why there's never a source mentioned him during the conquest because he is already dead. Muhammad only manage to unite all the tribe and Arabia that's all.
    3. 27:43 Saying that Islamic sources can't be trusted so Muhammad does not exist is ignorant. In this case Sun Zhu does not exist because it a Chinese sources. There's not other sources saying that he exist he might be a myth. See what I'm saying. Yes a lot of the Islamic sources might be highly exaggerated, but to disqualify all of the sources is dumb.

If the objectors accept this point that the boundary is causally connected to the rest of the universe, they should also accept that the boundary is same a temporal causal relation when God decided to manifest His will and Power to create the universe. If you maintain that causality doesn't make sense outside of time, then you'll have to reject causal relation between boundary of the singularity to the rest of the universe, which is pretty much rejecting the bloody existence of the universe. Secondly it assumes there is a consensus on the notion of time in science. There are different notions of time in quantum mechanics and relativ

    Regarding Prophet's marriage to Aysha(ra):
In the 'Age of Consent Act'(1891),the age of consent for girls was increased from 10 to 12 years old. In 1880, 37 states of America had an age of consent at 10 years old.
Roman law 100 B.C brides were 12 years old
    .
    •St Augustine from 10 years old 350 A.D
•King Richard second married 7 years old at 1396
•In 1791 Frances Napoleonic code set marriage of consent 11 years old
    .
•1880 USA, Delaware minimum age to get marry was 7 years old and California age of 10 years
    .
In the ancient time women had to marry early for two reasons:
    1. There was too much wars and so they needed to reproduce faster as average life expectancy wasn't high .
    2. They didn't have to go to schools, college or University like today that could spend their 16 years of life. So they were married off earlier. It was our human history throughout the world.
Even today the minimum age of marriage differs from place to place, Parental consent is needed in Alabama and Utah at age 14, while in Nebraska and Oregon, the age is 17. In New Hampshire, the ages at which you may get married with parental consent are 14 for males and 13 for females.

I think we all agree that 6 years old to marry and 9 year old to have sex is fundamentally wrong on so many levels. How could a prophet of God think it's ok to have sex with a child... Either God thinks it's ok or Muhammed wasn't a prophet!!!!

    • @FreePalestine_____
      @FreePalestine_____ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

@@bigafrojames Read my full comment. It was our human history marrying early. In ancient time we didn't have school, college, Uni etc. to spend our early life. What we had is war. To win the war you gotta reproduce faster. The average life expectancy of a woman was around 40. That's why early marriage was very common. Moreover, this marriage was proposed by the father of Aysha, best friend of prophet [pbuh] himself. Her marriage was already engaged with her cousin(Cousin marriage was common even before 1800). If prophet didn't marry her, she would be married with her cousin anyway. It is worth mentioning that most of the wives of the prophet was 30+ years old. Man had more than one wives because woman usually didn't take part in war. So the number of woman was much higher.
      Book of Jasher chapter: 24
40 And the young woman was of very comely appearance, she was a virgin, and *Rebecca was ten years old* in those days.
45 And *Isaac was forty years old* when he took Rebecca, the daughter of his uncle Bethuel, for a wife.
Some people may argue that as she was fetching water so she cannot be that young. You've to understand today's 10 years old and thousand years before 10 years old aren't the same. People used to mature faster physically. Moreover,Mary the mother of Jesus was 12-14 years old when she gave birth to Jesus (Source: Matthew:A Shorter Commentary by Dale C. Allison). Even among the popular historical figure -
33 year old King John of England married 12 years old Isabella. Margaret Beaufort gave birth to Henry Tudor at the age of 13 (1457).In the play of Romeo-Juliet,Juliet was 13. Joan of France, Duchess of Berry was betrothed at 8 days old and married at the age of 12.
      1. Professor of history Margaret Wade Labarge
“It needs to be remembered that many Medieval widows were not old, Important heiresses were often married between the ages of 5 and 10 and might find themselves widowed while still in their teens.”
      2. Professor Richard Wortley and Professor Stephen Smallbone, both of whom state that prior to the 1900s girls married very young,
“In Medieval and early modern European societies, the age of marriage remained low, with documented cases of brides as young as seven years, although marriages were typically not consummated until the girl reached puberty (Bullough 2004). Shakespeare’s Juliet was just 13, and there is no hint in the play that this was considered to be exceptional. The situation was similar on the other side of the Atlantic; Bullough reports the case in 1689 of a nine-year-old bride in Virginia. At the start of the nineteenth century in England, it was legal to have sex with a 10 year-old girl.”
      3. In the book, ‘Sex and Society’,
“Until the late 20th century U.S. age of consent laws specifically names males as perpetrators and females as victims. Following English law, in which the age was set at 12 in 1275 and lowered to 10 in 1576, ages of consent in the American colonies were generally set at 10 or 12. The laws protected female virginity, which at the time was considered a valuable commodity until marriage. The theft of a girl’s chastity was seen as a property crime against her father and future husband. If two people were married and had sex, no matter what their age, no crime was committed because a woman was her husband’s property. In practice, too, the consent laws only protected white females, as many non-white females were enslaved or otherwise discriminated against by the legal system.”
      4. Richard A. Posner is chief judge of the U.S court of appeals, Seventh Circuit Chicago. Katherine B. Silbaugh is associate Professor at Boston University School of Law, they say that before the 1900s age of consent was ten years old,
“The law governing the age of consent has changed dramatically in the United States during this century. Most states codified a statutory age of consent during the nineteenth century, and the usual age was ten years.”
      5. The Scottish Law prior to 1900s by Sir John Comyns and Stewart Kyd,
“By the law of Scotland, a woman cannot contrabere sponsalia before her age of seven years. 1 Rol. 343. I. 20.
But by common law, persons may marry at any age. Co. Lit. 33. A.
And upon such marriage the wife shall be endowed, if the attain the age of nine years, of what whatsoever age her husband be; but not before the age of nine years. Co. L. 33. A.”
      6. Professor of Sociology Anthony Joseph Paul Cortese says that a 50 year old man being with a girl under 10 (being intimate) Under United States law was legal until the mid 1960s,
“In 1962, the American Law Institute recommended that the legal age of consent to sex- that is, the age below which sex is defined as statutory rape- be dropped in every state to age 10 (Katchadourian and Lund 1972: 439). In fact, until the mid 1960's, the legal age of consent in Delaware was 7 (Kling, 1965: 216). So a 50 year old man could legally have sexual intercourse with a 7 year old boy or girl.”

As a Muslim, I feel okay regarding drawing the prophet, and the I believe this law meant to not create idols to worship because in Arabic idols and images could be referred in the same word.
On the other hand, I feel this video is not educational rather it is referring to one belief of what is the true story. Regarding to the sources, and I'm bragging, before the bloom of Islamic sciences there were not a thing called a source or a methodology of criticism and to be objective in the research. All of this came as result of an order made by God (which is Allah in Arabic, so no need to say Allah if you are talking in English) to wonder the creation of the human and sounding creatures, and criticize information until reaching clarity.
Regarding Man can beat women, this is so not true and it's punched by every law in every country, and the only mention of this is from AN ISLAMIC SOURCE that a guy approached the prophet to sattel a disagreement with his wife, and prophet mentioned several steps reach intervention of family members of each side, and if this did not work he till him to hit her with a small stick not bigger than a finger leaving no pain or a mark as a symbol of high level of disagreement of her act!
One more thing, the rights you've mentioned. Non Muslims we willing to pay a tax for defense, and this obligate that Muslims to die if this what it takes to defend those tax payers and citizens of the Islamic country or runs by an Islamic administration. Only terrorists and you agree that not believers in God are different than believers and they should be treated differently.
Just want to advise you to not create educational content using this mindset, and to study more about the topic before. What you've done is what causing fundamentalists to be more fundamental and this mean more extreme then more terror, and this applies not only with Islam, but with any belief or ideology

OKAY. UM. MEN CANNOT BEAT THEIR WIVES. AT ALL. PERIOD. They can *symbolically* hit their wives with a thing called a miswak (which is basically the same pain as hitting them with a handkerchief) and it *cannot* hurt. It is meant symbolically, and not to cause pain. And secondly, *we do not know the age of ‘Aisha.* The biography of her sister says that ‘Aisha was married at 19 to Muhammad (SAW) and not 6-7. She absolutely was not that young, but we can’t know her exact age. It was most likely that she was around 19.

He said that he lived from robbing caravans, and that his god commanded him to fight against believers of other faiths, mass executing them, while enslaving their women and children. He assassinated his criticizers around Medina for criticizing him, including a mother of five. He ordered apostates to be executed, he himself ordered cut of feet and hands and to make blind some apostases to leave them die. He was not just a pedophile, genocider and womaniser, but also a caravan-robber warlord, a terrorist, a slave trader and a rapist. Nice example...

    3. the reason why there is no third party or other sources is because most of the men in that time have job that are military based job or skill based job only a little have a knowledge based job, most of sources will be adapted by the muslim because at the time only the muslim had interest in that, and since this is a normal occurence in that time people just saw it as another tribal war

Thank you for clarifying! I have a question: in reference to your 3rd point, during the Golden Age of Islam (approximately the years 700-1300), do you think Muslim historians might have destroyed third party sources in order to confirm their own beliefs, or do you think the problem is that there were few third party sources in the first place?
For me, having grown up in a European and Christian-based culture, I know that the Catholic church suppressed and quieted a lot of scientific and historical knowledge so they could protect their beliefs from being proved wrong, during the Middle Ages (almost exactly the same time as the Muslim Golden age!), but I've never been taught if Muslim scholars misrepresented their history in a similar way, or to a similar extent. I think all people can be stubborn sometimes, and ignore new information to hold onto old beliefs, but the destruction in the Middle Ages was rather systematic and political.

      1. there might or might not be. because the muslim historian has their own bias and circumstances at the time.
      2. at the time muhammad doesn't really that famous only the mostly only arab know him until when he created the nation that people start to notice him and the europe start thinking he is a threat but at the time he did he already old and then passed away.
      3. the arab world were still at comparable is look very alike europe dark age at the time and because the islamic golden age that jumpstart the era of the arab world to be comparable to the late middle ages of europe. most of history before the golden age of muslim are either gone, missing, get destroyed in war or maybe intentional erasing. just like dark age of europe
      4. the muslim at this time doesn't really searching for the third party source since the quran mostly is their primary source for history of muhammad life and from other sources beside that only a small fraction are written mostly are hearsay passed down from previous generation (because at the time the arab have a really low literacy rate)

@Phil Weatherley eh, I'm the one who asked and I still understood what he meant. English probably isn't his first language, and that's fine: I'd rather that response than if he just typed it in his native language and I had to rely on Google translate or something. And to be fair, I was asking for his opinion, not necessarily a well-researched response on behalf of any group's beliefs. It was enough for me to use as a stepping stone for more research, and that's all I needed, really. I can link some works if you're genuinely curious, though.

Note that it was destroyed soon after al-Hakam II's death in a push towards greater orthodoxy in Islam, with scholars at the time viewing many of the philosophical and theological works in it to be heretical.)
And of course, a few Wiki lists of early historiographical works of the Muslim world and early Muslim historical scholars:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historiography_of_early_Islam
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Muslim_historians#The_historians_of_the_formative_period
You'll see in the first one, there are a few references to scholars stating that many historical accounts written by Muslim historians during the Islamic Golden Age are contradicted by contemporary outsider sources, at least when it comes to the inception of the religion around the 7th-8th centuries. If you take a closer look at some of those sources, they affirm that this is probably evidence of embellishment or misrepresentation on the part of those Golden-Age Islamic scholars; though of course, evidence shouldn't be confused for definitive proof. I wasn't able to find any specific references to any major systematic destruction of early historical works, but many Islamic libraries were destroyed either insularly (e.g., the library of Rayy, and the library of al-Hakam II, mentioned above) or by outsiders, especially during the Crusades (e.g., the library of Banu Ammar, Dar al-'ilm).

    The video has many errors:
I will mention a few of them, for example:
    A man marries 4 women, not 3.
And that the Messenger, peace be upon him, wrote the Qur’an, this is wrong, as he does not know how to read or write.
The story that the Messenger Muhammad, peace be upon him, wanted to commit suicide. This is a piece of news without a reliable source, and this is not recognized in the hadiths because the hadiths are based on sources.
And that men beat their husbands, this is true, but this is when they disobey their husbands ... and the beating is not as you portrayed it in the video, and you can search on Google for the condition of beating their husbands in Islam, as it does not leave marks ... and the Messenger, peace be upon him, said to those who beat women that they are not the best of people There are hadiths that explain that he prefers not to be beaten ... The evidence for this is that Muhammad, peace be upon him, did not hit his wives ... And another evidence that you said yourself was that in his last sermon he recommended treating women with good.
And the last request, can you give me the source that says that Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq and Ali bin Abi Talib were at odds?
I don’t know .. some mistakes I feel you made for lack of careful research, but some mistakes like hitting women, I feel you put them on purpose.
