I rolled my eyes when Marko Stunt kicked out of The Penta Driver. That spot ruined the match for me. Instead Jungle Boy should've ran in and broke up the pin in that situation
That’s why wrestling blows, kicking out of finishers ruined the business.
The match should've gone like this:
Jungle Boy valiantly takes on the Lucha Bros on his own, Marko eventually gets in the mix and gets destroyed in one or two moves and shows no offense, and flies out of the ring on to ringside and gets stretchered off, written off TV and kayfabe killed off when the ambulance he's in runs off the road. The man driving is revealed to be Jim Cornette who murdered Marko Stunt in cold blood.
Jungle Boy fights but then loses since he can't beat both Lucha Bros.

This was always my concern when AEW started signing people, wrestling is suspending disbelief, you could be a complete crackhead and not find this believable. Janela, can’t work (ladder spot from Mox match, Mox looked like he was going to fall asleep waiting for him to climb the ladder) Kiss (just a bad stereotypical gimmick, which if wwe did they would get roasted) and he’s not that great in the ring, Cutler, how can a man who trains with the Bucks at least not be a spot monkey also, he’s terrible in the ring, and OC ( won’t be as harsh) his gimmick is crap but unlike the others he can wrestle, problem is once his gimmick dies and his gimmick will get old quick, how do fans stay interested. Prince was 5'2 and by the time he was markos age he had more mass in each thigh, from dancing, than marko has in his body.
I'm sure Marko's a good guy and that he is a decent athlete in his own right, he can probably do tricks on a skateboard or dirt-bike that would impress Tony Hawk, and he's definitely got plenty of heart trying to go against the odds and live his dream, and usually I applaud that, even admire it, I genuinely do. But some dreams are just unrealistic. Hey, just like Jim here I too dreamed of being Ron Jeremy (1979 Ron Jeremy of course, when he was fit and good looking), but reality and genetics say that was never going to happen. I watched once when this kid with Downs Syndrome, with dreams of being a pro basketball player, Shaq brought him out on court, lifted the kid up on his shoulders and let him dunk a ball, the crowd cheered and it was a genuine feel-good moment. That didn't mean owners of the Orlando Magic were going to sign that kid up as a regular player. No matter how much heart Marko has, no matter how inspirational his efforts are, that doesn't change the fact that physically he makes Spike Dudley look like Bubba Ray (I'm 54 years old and these days my exercise comes more from Krispy Kreme and I could take this kid) and continuing to put him in matches just makes AEW look like Amateur Hour.
That's the thing though. To a lot of modern fans (and certainly the AEW fanbase) it's not necessarily supposed to resemble a legitimate sporting contest, but rather something like a fighting video game where characters of various sizes, genders etc. compete on equal terms. I'm not carsickness saying that's a good thing, but I think some people are missing the fact that the disconnect is on a conceptual level.
Well said (2 years later) it’s embarrassing that this kid got a contract by Jacob Fatu and hammerstone didn’t. Buddy Matthews didn’t. Bronson Reed didn’t. It’s just fucked up that this kid gets a job but talented top guys don’t.

Jim was totally right when he said Jungle boy should have went out there alone and tried to go against the Lucha Bros. It would've made him super sympathetic and if they would have had somebody run out to be his tag team partner and get the hot tag that would have been cool also. This is the problem, wrestling needs to creditable, when someone like Marko has fighting someone like Pentagon Dark, all creditability is lost, this is part of the reason no one takes wrestling seriously.

The man is a pure genius. Listen to him. He gives away his wrestling wisdom for free. Listen and learn. Nobody else will teach you. And the Lucha brothers are businessmen. They will do anything, even come to my b-day party, if I pay them enough.
People also forget that despite Rey Mysterio being a once in a generation talent, he was also booked to LOSE and work as the underdog in ALL of his matches. Now compare Rey's level of talent and the fact that he has almost 100lbs and 4 inches on Marko. Marko shouldn't even be able to get a forearm shiver in offensively.

I understand completely, and I pretty much agree. However, we can't deny the facts on this one. They had 2 hrs, to come up with something. They gambled and for this week it worked for them. That was the highest rated segment of the entire night. I don't think they should do it again tho. Meanwhile ...can't deny that they're doing it their way. We'll see how it goes.

In all honesty, I would have preferred Riho rolling up Baker than to watch Lucha Bros squash essentially 2 kids that went on too long.
I like Luchasaurus and I think Jungle Boy has some merit... if he is paired with Luchasaurus. Marko Stunt doesn't really do anything for the pair except eat pins to protect the bigger guys. When you are also trying to take pride in statistics and you have Marko Stunt eating the pins 1 after the other, then you are ruining the credibility of the team and that doesn't help if they eventually enter the Tag Team title picture.
