Been to this track many times. I was also a season ticket holder for Sporting Kansas City, the MLS club that plays across the street. But in 2001, across the street was just the woods. All the aerial shots are crazy because the whole area around the track looks different now

Thank you @NASCAR for sharing these classic races! I absolutely loved these race cars; my personal favorite childhood memories! Incredible racing and super talented drivers.
This was my first cup race in person about a week before I turned 8 years old I had an asthma attack the day before during the Busch Series race missed most of that but was cleared to go back for Cup the next day and it was awesome being a Jeff Gordon fan and him winning at my first nascar race
Jeremy Mayfield ran a short track car in his final race with Team Penske. Chassis 10/Ford was run at Martinsville, Richmond, Rockingham, Loudon, Dover, & Bristol for those races in 2001 prior to running again at Kansas. That same chassis finished 2nd three times in 2000 at Charlotte, Homestead, & Phoenix. It also raced at Dover & Rockingham as well in the fall of 2000.
Thnks nascar for posting old races makes great motivation for fans of all ages & I really wanna see more carcam & o.s.s. inspection chat time before races
As a life-long 2 car fan, this one still burns. It would be ten years until some guy named Brad Keselowski would soothe that wound by finally bringing the two car to Victory Lane at Kansas.
Jeff rarely did burnouts after his 97-98 dominant seasons. He would just have a cool down lap and had a “act like you’ve been there before” attitude after winning. He did more during his final years, since he regained his form and more traditional fans who were once anti-Gordon appeared to finally appreciate him for the all time great he was during his career.
Team killer for 2 teams: Evernham and Travis Carter. because of only Evernham with Travis Carter dual accident crashed and Evernham engine failure on alone. Kansas is sometimes truly The Twilight Zone
It looked like newman was trying to hold up the cars immediately behind him on those last 2 restarts so rusty could get a jump on em, great teamwork....i dont know what happened between those two, but shame they couldnt play nice for very long.
I think Rusty was used to being the number one driver and when Newman came along and started winning, it made him look like he was over the hill (Rusty was never as fast after 2001)
@@jesseemullen agreed...2002 on a lot of the veterans started to struggle, Rusty, Jarrett, Elliott, Martin, the Labonte's even Gordon. The changes to the aero and the tires really affected them more than the younger guys..which is understandable. you go back and watch races from the previous era and the cars moved all over the place, the springs, tires, shocks were setup vastly different. You needed an entirely different feel to the car to be succesful and those guys didnt have it. Gordon had enough time to adjust and have another succesful run, and Mark Martin stuck around long enough to figure it out. Rusty's last year was pretty good, but a lot of the old stars faded out around the mid 2000s
People complain about the racing today...this is horrible. No one can pass. If Elliott didn't have a dog motor, he would have dominated. That car carried so much corner speed compared to Rusty, but could not do a thing. If he would have aggressively side draft like they do today, he maybe could have passed Rusty
This race was probably the final straw for Ray Evernham when it came to Casey Atwood. Right then and there he was probably like "yeah nah I've seen enough"
If Atwood won at Homestead, he may have gotten back in Evernham’s good graces and possibly drive the 19 car for another season. But yeah, Atwood was a flat out bust in NASCAR. So much hype and he never delivered.
Watching the OSS Inspection @ Kansas on youtube....and struck with the thought....'I think NASCAR has over thought this sport'. Just cause we have all this technology doesn't mean we have to use in every aspect of our lives! NASCAR's OSS inspection is a prime example of inventing a need to use technology....sad....very sad
Wish NASCAR would add a little more variety to these old races they post. I love these old races but so many of them are wins by Gordon and Dale Jr. Why not post some underdog wins like the year Joe Nemechek won at Kansas?
For a race from 2001, the quality is so good!
Respect for all the drivers of this race!
The perks of saving the raw feed from the day of!
I actually remember watching this on TV!!
You’re killing me with the nostalgia NASCAR....damn you!

Was there in 2018. Beautiful track!
What’s more impressive about Ryan Newman finishing 2nd in that race, his backup car was a car he ran an ARCA race with. Crazy man 😳
The chassis was but na it wasn’t an arca car
@@cloudff7123 I know that.
Steven wallace won an arca race with the same chassis i believe
A rookie driving a backup car, to a part time team, running down Gordon in his prime.
classic NASCAR on NBC with Allen Bestwick, Benny Parsons, and Wally Dallenbach in the commentary box!

Agreed!
Happy 70th Birthday to the Intimidator 🐐
He was the prince of Nascar
Happy Birthday Earnhardt
RIP Dale Earnhardt Sr (1951 - 2001)
That Dale Jarrett crash was brutal.
jeff gordon also won the first kansas night race, omg
Thank you @NASCAR for sharing these classic races! I absolutely loved these race cars; my personal favorite childhood memories! Incredible racing and super talented drivers.
Another Great Win Brought To You By Jeff Gordon

a trifecta of inaugural race wins for Jeff Gordon🤗Indianapolis California Kansas🚘
He is absolutely legendary

Newman in a car that won an ARCA race. good times lol
Ryan Newman was so, so good, honestly.
Old Kansas reminds me a lot of what Texas is now. All single-file on the bottom and if you miss the corner you're gonna lose 3-4 spots.
yeah it's unfortunate that racing on new asphalt isn't great. takes years for it to wear nicely.
Kinda remind me of Vegas or Chicago land
But it is also my home track
@NASCAR Upload the race, NASCAR NEXTEL CUP SERIES 2006 Bass Pro Shops (Second Atlanta Race)
I forgot this was the Ward Burton glove throwing race 😂
Thanks NASCAR for the upload.

Pretty sure rusty won at Martinsville in 2004
@@slickyricky45 He did. That has nothing to do with the 2 car at Kansas.
I'm glad I watched this before I bought tickets.
Who else has come here to watch this race while we wait for the 2024 Kansas race to start due to rain?
I went to this race. Only race I’ve ever been to in my life. Still disappointed no burn out after the win.boo'
Was before burnouts were super popular

I was at this race. Fun day.
look at that... one car spins through the grass and they dont waste 8 laps under caution.. they get back to racing..
Remember how jerky NBC/TNT's backstretch camera guy was? Used to always scare the shit out of me when their was a wreck on the backstretch xD
But the 3 came back to NASCAR again with 3 wins with Dillon
Kansas race is always so wild
"I wish I had something I could've shot through the window?"
Newman. Would have won if the track had multiple grooves
Team killer for 2 teams: Evernham and Travis Carter. because of only Evernham with Travis Carter dual accident crashed and Evernham engine failure on alone. Kansas is sometimes truly The Twilight Zone
This was before NASCAR was ruined with the chase and playoff formats.
😂
Omg stop whining about it
And this was also before you crashed into Ferdinand Codric on his birthday
amazing quality!
Chevy has 798 NASCAR Cup Series wins as of currently. Just a heads up.
I wish nascar would put complete races on dvd, instead of abbreviated version.

Man I miss Dodge, I hope they come back
Was the track modified since this race? It looks kinda different.
I remember Rusty probably had this race won if he didn't speed on pit road during his final stop.
@nascar upload the 2006 fall race

Easy. Fewer people would watch it
@@WorldsOkayistGuitarPlayer I disagree. People that are desperate for the old days would watch any of these old races.
U will never hear Kyle Busch ran a clear race today
more recent flashbacks! '04-'12?
Kinda wished newman won
Awesome
🐐
what?
Was at this race
