  • I was always told not to put magnets near electronics when I was younger. But did my parents really have good reasoning behind that? Are magnets really that dangerous?

Can you make a video about how to make your PC look nice on cheap. Like cables, fans and other rgb things.

That's a really good idea. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into it!

This puts me at ease. I've noticed that my new GPU support has a small magnet in its base, but judging by your experiment, it won't be the problem.

i think the sound that keep happening maybe the hard drive's protection system, when the sound kinda slows down a little, it may be slowing down the read and write head to try and protect the data on it.

Great experement! I'm chocked it lives that long as the discs were spinning and the heads moving. I also wonder if you just formated it, would it still be damaged?

Just a fyi, the shiny side is actually much thinner in terms of metal than the side you called 'unprotected'. It's only a few mm on that side, and the unprotected side is 3-4x thicker.

If you leave a string enough magnet on the HD overnight, it will definitely be dead by morning. Bear in mind that if you do it whilst the HD is plugged in, the magnet may just simply stop the plates from moving or mess with the head, once removed the HD will work as before.
I applied 3 magnets to a HD, 2 on one side 1 on the other side, left them for longer than 10 hours. The HD powers up, spins, doesn't , but is not recognised by any machine I plugged it in.

Old or cheap HDDs like this one are easy to damage with magnets, but a good HDD would stop spinning if it detected that something was damaging it.

That's the Sunset thing I've ever heard, replace it. Fixing it would cost more than it's worth.
