Beginner lesson: stem-and-leaf plots

I show how to make stem-and-leaf-plots, including one double stem-and-leaf plot comparing results of two quizzes. We also observe the median and the basic shape (distribution) of the data. This lesson best suits grades 6 and 7.
In two of the examples, the stems are the tens digits and the leaves are the ones digits of the numbers. In one example, the data consists of prices, such as $2.49, and then the stems are the first two digits (2.4 for this example) and the leaves are the last digits (9).

For example, the stems could be the whole numbers and the leaves could be the decimal parts. But, stem-and-leaf plots are limited... they don't work well with just any data.

It does really, cos for example if u wanna find the median u need all the numbers in order as u eliminate them. If there not in order when u find the median it won't be the median

It depends on the other numbers in your data. It could be 4 | 2.4 (40 as the stem) or 42.| 4, with 42 as the stem. Stem-and-leaf plots are not useful for large data sets, by the way.
