I worked 60-80 hours a week until I was 40. I'm 53 and I've had TWO one week vacations. It took me 25 years to save up enough to get my first, little, fixer upper home. It has NEVER been easy and the world is not conducive to a "the government will see to plenty and leisure time for all", because with that mentality, sooner or later you run out of "someone else's money". Now I'm 53 and pretty secure, due to having a wife who has had a similar track to mine, and only through both of us working very hard for very long, are we now seeing that we can retire at 65, but even then, our plan at 65 is based on working part time at least until age 70.
Well.... Wages haven't been raised in more than 50 years while productivty has risen up to 5x times, so yeah people don't like "real work" when they earn peanuts for it. Used to be in the 50s and 60s, a man could do "real work" and be able to afford a house, a car, and having a stay-at-home mom looking after their kids. Not anymore....

I've known a few women who said "I'll just sell houses" as a go-to career. Nothing wrong with being a realtor, but some women think its going to be an easy job. They just drive clients around in their BMW's, client signs on the dotted line, and checks in the mail. My ex-wife thought that, and came to the realization that it isn't easy as she attempted to get through realtor school, lol. Everything in the real world is work, and they are coming to that realization.

I struggled from 1985 (at age 17) to today (age 53), it has never, ever, been easy. I lived in conditions that are well below the comfort level of what I observe with young adults today who complain quite a bit about how harsh their conditions are. I never complained once and don't get the "why isn't someone making my life easy/fun" attitude.
I'm not saying you have that attitude as a generalization of you, but your comment reminds me of this common aspect of modern young culture, to state it in reductionist terms (and I apologize for it, consider it a caricature as well), every young person things they will be a sports star, a youtube influencer or a music star, no one wants to work.
I worked 60-80 hours a week until I was 40. I'm 53 and I've had TWO one week vacations. It took me 25 years to save up enough to get my first, little, fixer upper home. It has NEVER been easy and the world is not conducive to a "the government will see to plenty and leisure time for all", because with that mentality, sooner or later you run out of "someone else's money".
Now I'm 53 and pretty secure, due to having a wife who has had a similar track to mine, and only through both of us working very hard for very long, are we now seeing that we can retire at 65, but even then, our plan at 65 is based on working part time at least until age 70.
Well.... Wages haven't been raised in more than 50 years while productivty has risen up to 5x times, so yeah people don't like "real work" when they earn peanuts for it. Used to be in the 50s and 60s, a man could do "real work" and be able to afford a house, a car, and having a stay-at-home mom looking after their kids. Not anymore....

In any case, there is a fairly big segment of the working population who have figured out how to shift with changes and succeed. Trying to change the culture or laws or regulations to accommodate the segment that fails sounds great when promoted by politicians, but in practice just doesn't work.
To that point: I think our education and culture fail young adults, and I sympathize with that. I mean I grew up, Gen X, there was literally zero passing of wisdom and how things work from parents or teachers, I just happen to be very driven. Not everyone is that driven, and that's not a censure of them, again, I think we have a strange culture that teaches people to basically be children "until suddenly they aren't children" with no real life internship done by parents, teachers.

I'm 33 and my life is ruined because my dad was/is ignorant enough to believe that the world still works the way it did 60 years ago and expected me to establish my life with a used truck and a only few hundred dollars in savings and work my way up to prosperity from there.
I've worked dozens of jobs and I never once have had a sustainable income despite all my efforts. The only exception was when I worked in the oil and gas industry for 9 months until I was laid off. The laws and culture need to change. America is not what it is advertised. It's an aristocratic caste system. I have been living the reality that hard work does not pay for nearly 15 solid years. I've been irreversibly mentally damaged and physically injured from low end jobs that don't even pay survivable wages.
Life should not have to be this way. It's all wrong. Those who have never lived this sort of hardship can't possibly understand the struggle.

Oh man, I freakin' love this. I worked a really boring job for over 30 years, but it did pay well. Long story short, I'm 54 & thanks to some good financial decisions & saving, I'm now retired. Most women don't wanna work for this. I LOVE IT!!!
