  • Check out this wifi enabled 1/48 scale Tamiya KI-84 Hayate (Frank) 1/48 scale model.
    This is my 2nd model after my 25 year break from scale model building. I decided I wanted to add a little extra to this model so it has a motor, speakers and lights! All of that is controlled via a webpage over my local network!
    Sorry about some of the bad voice over, used a different microphone :(

    You ran into a lot of problems at the finishing stage, but the final result is actually pretty gnarly! And there seems to be no trouble with the electronics! That is some serious skill-set that a lot of modellers would be very proud of having!

    I have brass tube & rod that fit exactly precisely to do stuff like this but haven't yet. My brother did a Lightning. If you switch the wires on one side you get counter rotation. He actually got it to taxi. The brass is meant for true rotation & friction protection. Good job. My dream kit is a 1/48 scale Pete. Many decal sheets suck. A sad thing amid the sea of technical accuracy.

    It has been 40 yrs for me....still considering it. Number one thing you could do is provide an equipment/bill of materials list of every tool, knife, mat, tape, clips, etc. you would recommend to have as a starter kit to get back into it. Also, any recommendations around paint types and brands. I have checked out a few channels but havent found one that really addresses this in a comprehensive way for a newbie or returning newbie.

    It's a very old kit so it's probably better to use for this reason. Nice result. When it comes to chipping Japanese paint was notorious for peeling unevenly with some aircraft looking like a flying wreck when it had only been in service for a week and perfectly fine.

    • @MartinMakesIt
      @MartinMakesIt  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've actually been looking into it, but I don't know that I can fit a driver in a plane this size. Down the line I'm looking at doing folding wings or landing gear and I don't know that I'll have room for 2-3 drivers

  • @crazylegsmurphy
    @crazylegsmurphy ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice little project there Martin. Have you thought about using fibre optic filaments for the lights and hiding the leds in the fuselage or in the base?

    • @MartinMakesIt
      @MartinMakesIt  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't, but I'll definitely look into it. If I add lights to my next one I'll see about using them, it would be nice to use addressable LEDs so I could control color, and flashing. If I make a 1/32, I'd like to make the guns shoot with sound effects and lights. But we'll see

    • @MartinMakesIt
      @MartinMakesIt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely when I drilled the prop out for the output shaft I didn't drill it true, so the prop is mounted slightly off. Also the cone isn't glued on, so if I bump it it makes the wobble more noticeable.
