I saw Todd on the roof of the Reno museum back in early 2000. Just him, guitar and a little rain. Had to be one of the best shows I've ever seen. Soooooooo Goooooood

Wow, I think I just REALLY listened to It's Been A Long Year for the first time. It seems to be about a failed attempt at sobriety. I can relate. I tried many times and never felt completely comfortable in the 12 step rooms, so I feel this song at a pretty deep level. Alcoholism is some sad shit. I always had a good time when I drank, but was never very happy, if that makes any sense. It kills me to know that Todd struggles with the pain of addiction. He's such a beautiful guy. I hope he finds peace, if not sobriety. The "marijuana maintenance program" that many former drinkers swear by might be that happy middle ground for others out there. Anyway, back to the song...when he leaves the meeting, goes to the bar and has a shot I want to cry. Another failed attempt, and "here we go again". Peace, Todd. Love you man.

Every addiction starts with the substance having way more upside than downside. If that weren't the case, you wouldn't get addicted. Gradually though, the positive aspects and the negative aspects trade places until you get to a point where there is almost no positive left.

A friend turned me on to his first album back in the day. I totally dig the way he thinks. A little bit different but in the coolest way. Original and bluesy. He is one cool cat.

I read a story by Todd about writing "It's Been a Long Year." It is about going to an AA meeting. His original version featured some random person as the character, and John Prine basically told him it was crap and to re-write it as something more personal. And this was it. Too bad the audio here is not great, but with Todd Snider it is the lyrics that matter most.

Joe Bruce you’re thinking of the book. It’s obviously autobiographical though. Todd obviously wrote this about himself. Luckily, he’s been sober since 2014 on alcohol

I remember years ago, the Toronto Globe & Mail did an article about albums released by protest singers Snider and Springsteen ( I'm sure I'm one of the few Canadians who not only knew of Snider, but vastly preferred his stoner attitude to that of The Boss, who probably asks for proof of Democrat voting before being allowed to buy his overpriced tickets ). I loved how Todd said "I'm so liberal I love conservatives."
