I've never been interested in growing pleiones before but you've done it again! You've waved something in front of me and off to ebay I go. It turns out I've got the perfect pot vacant at the moment.
Thanks so much for this video. I have wanted to grow some of these, but my past attempts were a failure and now I know it is because I tried them in dirt and they are expensive so I never tried again.
Yeah, they are orchids for non-orchid people. I know several gardeners in mild areas who grow them successfully in pots outdoors. So give them a try if you find them!
Thank you so much for that Rachel. I've tried a couple of times to grow Pleiones without success. Maybe I will give them another go when I see the bulbs for sale.
I'm so HAPPY 😆 that I found you channel! First, because I love unique plants, and I include orchids in that; and secondly, because I'm of Irish ancestry, so it's a joy to listen to you teach me things I don't know about plants. Thank you very much! I'll be following you. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 I'm celebrating this, too. 😊
Oh Pleones...,you are so lucky that you can grow them. Here in Greece they all die slowly, they can't withstand heat and the low air humidity. If I were you,I would try to grow them everywhere.
+Savvas Simitsis I guess every climate has its pros and cons. Yes, a hot summer and pleiones in the greenhouse is a bad combination. But they do well outdoors in shade. Thanks for watching and happy growing!
Oh no! I hope you didn't really throw the pleione bulbs😢 Very nice mixture :) I was thinking to only mix perlite with peat but this mix sounds so much better. It's funny but my pleione bulbs ( I have 3) are already producing roots so I think I need to hurry and pot them on :) Thank you for sharring!
Hello I'm from Argentina. I've two bulbs as a gif. My problem is that they are sprouting and here is one month left for winter. what do you suggest me do about that? Thank you!
@@GardeningatDouentza Thank yuo for your help. I suppose the bulbs come from the northern hemisphere, that's why they have the stations changed. Here we are in autumn to start winter. I will keep the bulbs active until next winter.
+Bettina I don't put the pleiones in full sun. If you check the '8 seedling' video you will see them in the background at some point. Last year I burnt some pleiones in the greenhouse so this year I'm keeping them indoors. They last longer in the greenhouse because it's cooler but I see them better in the kitchen :)
+Gardening at Douentza Wonderful because I've no shady space anymore in my little garden. I'll buy just a few to see if they like my care and enjoy then inside. I love the fact that they take their winter rest in the fridge. But first I'll listen to all your videos about Pleione care.
What should I do if now in January I still have 4 bulbs with leafs? I didn't know that I was supposed to but them in a plastic bag so I left her alone... And now is still having leafs.... Please give me a piece of advice. Thank you
If your pleione still has leaves from last year (not new leaves) then you had best respond to what it wants. If it is in active growth, making more new leaves then give it water. If it is reducing its leaves then reduce water. You may find that your bulbs go dormant at some stage in the summer if they have missed out on winter dormancy this year. Hope this helps.
thanks for the great video. I managed to kill most of my pleiones from last year. I've two tiny bulbs left. Hopefully this video will help me keep them alive so they could reproduce more bulbs. How do you keep the leaves from breaking? I found them bending over easily.
+David Yu I find that pleione leaves get quite tattered in summer. I keep mine outdoors. But the important thing is for the leaves to funnel goodness back to the bulbs and they do that even when they are dog-eared. I think you would need to keep your pleiones indoors if you wanted the leaves to stay looking good. A word of warning with the small bulbs, some of them will shrivel if fridged in winter. My Pleioe formosana baby bulbils are fine in the fridge but some of the fancier ones can dessicate completely and be lost!
I LOVE these Pleonies, and they are definitely on my future to buy Orchids wish list :-) I think they are so unusual in that they have a Pseudobulb and have a winter rest and are small and compact :-) I love the round clay terracotta bowls, and I can imagine how very beautiful the flower display is going to be and looking forward to seeing it :-) thanks so much for sharing Rachel, and sending you heaps of love and tons of happiness from Waterford to Wexford and have a WONDERFUL Wednesday ahead XXXXXX
+Desert Plants of Avalon Thank you, Lyn. Yes pleiones are one of the joys of spring. They let us know that it will be all better soon. Thanks for watching and your great comments :)
Great vid love the colour of the sepal can't wait to see it in full bloom I'd love to send you a gift if that's possible a few orchids not huge ones but nice all the same
+Andrew Usher Dear Andrew, that is very kind of you and very exciting. I would be delighted to receive such a surprise. I can't seem to send you a private message. My postal address is Rachel Darlington, Douentza, Knocknalour, Bunclody, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, Ireland. PS Maybe you can private message me?
Hi. Douentza, your all videos are for Learning, how you 'Peony' from three to so many ? So, I can plant Peony in pot ? Thanks Zz from Milton, Ontario Canada 🇨🇦.

Hello Willem. No, pleiones are not used like tulip bulbs. This is my video about potting them and here is a video about overwintering them. Good luck... th-cam.com/video/JkFZ1-D34w8/w-d-xo.html
Oh, Pleino formosa is what I want. Do you think it's too late to order the bulbs online? Where did you place the pot? indoor or outdoor? Thank you, Rachel!!
+Susana1024 You could still look around for bulbs on line but it could be a little late. Your best bet would be potted ones at this time of year. The pleiones are not in direct sun in my growroom. You can see them in the background in my 8 seedlings video at one point :)
one leaf orchid, my favorite
+Alan Chan They are so welcome in spring.
Gardening at Douentza i know,it is from china, and everyone loves one leaf orchids!
CHE MERAVIGLIA

Fantastic. Thanks for sharing and happy growing.
+SHARON SHORT Thank you, Sharon.
We were thinking the same thing... I potted mine up on Sunday. .. the video should be up this Saturday.... Your bulbs are so big and beautiful.
+PlantzNThings Well, it is the season :) Alberto was the first to put up a pleione potting video and there will be many more to follow.

Thank you so much for that Rachel. I've tried a couple of times to grow Pleiones without success. Maybe I will give them another go when I see the bulbs for sale.
+Gwen Ward You are welcome, Gwen They are worth another shot!
Not something I've ever thought to grow - but maybe I'll 'have a go'. You make them sound 'easy'.
+Roger Frampton Go on! You know you want to!

Gardening at Douentza Thank you! Formosana it's beautiful :) I do like it!
Hello I'm from Argentina. I've two bulbs as a gif. My problem is that they are sprouting and here is one month left for winter. what do you suggest me do about that? Thank you!
If they are sprouting you must pot them up or else they will die. You will need to keep them indoors but all the better to be able to enjoy them.

great video! I have one wee bulb :) I hope eventually I will have a bowl full :)
+April Arroyo Give it a few years!
Thanks for watching.
It starts out with a few innocent bulbs in a box but some people end up with a dedicated Pleione fridge.
Yes, these things do tend to escalate 😁
Can't wait to see them in flower ! Do they support full sun ?
Thanks for sharing. Happy growing.

Hola Saludo de España Me gustan mucho pleiones , en España no hay.Por fafor, vendeme algunas Gracias
Ours are way way smaller than yours, anyway they are going in the fridge today.ill use your recipe next year
They are divils for reducing in size if not watered enough in summer. We are all guilty !
Gardening at Douentza Thanks we'll watch out for that next year

+Gardening at Douentza I will check and see what is being offered by the internet god. Have a great weekend!
Do you keep them damp in the fridge over winter?
No, they are kept dry in the fridge.
Sorry, but they are PLEIONES, not PLEENIES! (joke)
Please, tell me what are those ??? pallettes (which you called 'magic ingredient')
I presume you are talking about the lumps of peat
Thank you!
It was peat! I suspected this, but I thought that it is called turf, which was my mistake.
