Absolutely brilliant and apparently, based upon a true story. I really do appreciate this upload. I did have a problem with some of the actors who spoke their lines, but that's down to my age.
These Australian shows are actually good this is just as Good as city homicide but city homicide was in the 2000s these shows are a little different than American shows but they are good all the same 😮😮
I just finished watching city homicide and wanted something like that to binge watch. Would like to find something like that. We don't have shows this good in North America
I've released a remastered episode as an experiment on my channel (on 1st January 2024) -- please take a look and let me know if it's any good, criticisms and compliments accepted. I've not just worked hard to perfect the levels (brightness levels), but rethreaded all the film transfers to take a stab at removing the vertical oversharpening and enhancing the "film look" while keeping the cold TV camera feel, a unique addition the producers wanted for Phoenix and Janus. The result should look good on HDR, 4K or whatever you have 30 years later. It was very unfair for the DVD boxsets to have a visual quality warning, when far worse was done to shows like "All Saints", years later and getting none of the same complaints. At least I was able to reverse most of the impact of shooting this on video, transferring to film, then back to video again - got rid of the downsides and kept the upsides. Only 3 shows in history were ever shot this way, all around 1991-1995.
I've got all 4 series of Phoenix and Janus and will get them properly graded and remastered. A bit of broadcast tech and a dash of modern processing will fix this right up - it can look 3x better than this version.

I don't have revenue enabled on my channel but with or without that, any copyright holder will get the ad revenue from Google, as long as they don't request super strict take-down policy. Most copyright holders would just like the money. In this case it would make sense when you can't even buy it anymore, especially Season 2. Nobody's taken down the copies you see above these comments, but it would be crazy to take-down episodes that are simply impossible to buy on DVD even second-hand.
It's not meant to be some generic TV show that spoon feeds everytihng to you. It was lauded for its realistic depiction of police investigation techniques, and extensive research by the writers. There was minimal script and much of the dialougue is adlibbed. That combned with the use of natural lighting, shooting to videotape and non-linear editing makes it feel more like a documentary than a TV show. Both series won the logie for Most Outstanding Miniseries in 1993 and 1994, as well as several Australian Film Institute Awards, and the Television or Film Theme of the Year Award at the APRA Music Awards of 1993. So yeah, it's objectively a fantastic show., but I can understand if it's a bit hard for you to follow.

Any chance of Janus making it onto TH-cam any time soon (or being available on Amazon / Netflix etc).
