- I purchased 2 large Clumps of GYMNOCALYCIUM MIHANOVICHII CACTUS in 12cm terracotta pots from LIDL supermarket back in JANUARY 14TH 2021.
4 heads and 7 heads in each pot!
Less than £5 per Pot!
Just want to share these beautiful cactus to show you the variability of these cactus and what great bargains I found... I would have bought FOUR POTS but I could only carry 2 pots at the time so take a look at these sought after cactus in this BITESIZE minutes long EPISODE!

This is one of my favorite cacti. It blooms on and off all summer and needs no winter dormancy to do it. Here in Ohio, the flowers open all the way. Maybe its because of our hot summers. Mine are already showing flower buds in the second week of February. I think it's because we've had an unusually sunny winter this year. November, December, and much of January were much sunnier than usual. (My Echinopsis subdenudata are also budding early.)
Most specimens I have seen have an olive green flower with a brown stripe down the middle of each petal, but some are all pink and some are a light beige color with a brown stripe. No matter how drab the color, the flower is shaped beautifully. I love the common name, too, plaid cactus.

Good purchase! I use to pick some of my cactus and succulents at that supermarket too, but never seen a gymno there, and with terracotta pots, it's fantástic. I wish I could find some🤞. 🤪 Oh,that crazy label...😆. Have a nice day!😘💕☮️🌵🌺

Yes they had 4 pots on the shelf... I got 2 as couldn't carry much more, plus my shopping... I was so lucky to get these in Lidl, a right bargain, thank you for your great comment, and for watching 👍🏻🌵😊

I bought that cactus and two mammillaria cacti from Lidl in January and February this year. 😃 I keep them in my kitchen. I think my gymnocalycium has some tiny flower buds. Do you think I should bring the gymnocalycium in my bedroom where it is warm? Would that help blooming ? 🤔
Decide which window sill receives more sunlight, so is there more light/sun received in the kitchen, or the bedroom window, then that's the better place for it. It's still early and 2 days ago (since my video about what's in bud already) my Gymnocalycium clump shown in THIS video has just started to show tiny signs of a bud on one of them. So it's early March now and the Buds will take a little while to grow so don't panic. Don't panic if when the buds do get larger and suddenly drop off too, this can sometimes happen on these sort of Gymnocalycium 🙄
But in regards to moving your cactus because it's getting Buds just decide on its better placement in terms of the most light you can give it ultimately. As the months move forward, be sure to shade it from the scorching peak sun in summer, if it's on the window sill, (especially on South facing ones!) Also remember which direction you have the Buds facing the light if you do move your cactus otherwise the buds you have now might stop growing if they are on the side now receiving no light should you move the cactus around, so remember to keep it facing the right way so the Buds can continue to grow.
Yes the extra heat will definitely encourage the Buds! But the light is important too.
The cooling period of winter and the cactus remaining dry is what helps set the formation of Buds into spring, so I have not watered mine yet as they were slightly damp when I purchased them. So I will water when the weather picks up in late March or April depending on weather.
