    Another tought - you might still want springs. It could be that the screws loosen over time, and that the camera may drop unexpectedly. Springs, even if they don't balance the full weight of the camera, would mitigate that effect.

      That's a good thought; humidity may have some effects on how tight it is.

    The best part of this build for me was the plastic handle, and the adapter you made for the camera to get a ball mount that allows for security in holding the camera in a particular position. Pretty damn cool.

      @EdKeenan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      dang that's the one thing I would have done different. a commercially available ball head allows for shooting straight down without moving any bolts on the arm

    Jeremy, you have the exact skill set that I want, you boy genius!!! I love how you and Matthias Wandel think (engineer minds), and how that informs the way you guys present your videos. You both pack a lot of learning in a short format, which sets the bar pretty high now for other woodworkers/makers to shoot and edit their videos without any lulls.
    I'm gonna be a diligent student of TH-cam University and osmotically absorb everything I can from all you makers here. I know I'm learning how to do woodworking, in the absence of actually doing it because when I see a piece of furniture now, I find myself breaking down how to construct it. I amaze myself at how much I've learned.
    I always wanted to take woodshop in school, but wasn't able to and TH-cam is making it possible for me to fulfill a lifelong dream. Whenever I have a tool in my hand, it feels like an extension of my body, so I know making/repairing is part of who I am...it fulfills me on a soul level. Thanks for making learning fun! :)

    You'll probably want to add some mechanism to the adapter pin between the ball and the camera, that will prevent the camera from unscrewing unintentionally, maybe a spring loaded finger that will engage with the chassis? maybe your camera still has one of those old style tripod alignment holes? I doubt it'll spin enough to fall off, but it might ruin a shot if it comes loose. (Jam nut would work but that may end up being destructive even if you're careful)

    Start the design-build process with the finished functioning product and work backward. This will make each.design step and its execution self evident to a largely nonengeneering audience. I'm a Loxo Lamp appreaciator-adapter, so I really like your intention. Much thanks for your effort!!
