- Head Coach Dawn Staley, Senior Forward Aliyah Boston and RS Freshman Guard Raven Johnson met with members of the media following Friday Night's 73-77 loss to Iowa in the semi-finals of the NCAA Tournament
I just became a big fan of Aliyah Boston. I wish her nothing but success and happiness.

As someone from Iowa, I felt that this team played with class while playing a hard game. Aliyah is incredible as a player and a speaker. Whoever gets her in the WNBA is going to be a very lucky team. South Carolina as a team was great to play against, and it's too bad that one team had to lose. I wish nothing but great things for these ladies in the future.

I have been a Lady Vol fan since I was 9 years old, I have loved everything Pat Summitt, and for my dollar, until Dawn Staley - there has been no one that honors WBB better, that has taken what Pat started and IMPROVED and ELEVATED WBB like Dawn. Caitlin Clark does more for WBB because she’s such an exciting player to watch. The NBA was just getting by until two exciting players entered the league, Magic and Bird. They garnered interest for the league, and then came Jordan, the most unpredictable and exciting player ever. That’s what made the NBA big, and will also make the WNBA big, exciting to watch players. It’s far more them fun-to-watch players, than the coaches.

" COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball coach Dawn Staley says she stands by her decision to cancel two games with BYU, despite a report that says there's no evidence the incident that led her to cancel the games ever took place.
Staley issued a statement late Friday, hours after BYU said an investigation into allegations their fans engaged in racial heckling and uttered racial slurs at a Black female Duke volleyball player last month found no proof to back up the event.
BYU said it reached out to more than 50 people who attended the event, including athletic department personnel and student-athletes from both schools, event security and management and fans who were in the arena. It also reviewed audio and video recordings and raw footage from the match.
“I continue to stand by my position," Staley said in a statement .

I am a huge Iowa and Caitlyn Clark fan and as a rule I do not care for the SEC all that much. That said, I am really shocked South Carolina lost tonight, I thought they would win by 25. From the standpoint of being a WBB basketball fan, South Carolina, Coach Staley, Aliyah and her teammates are the real deal. It was a great game and a game that we should all feel thankful for the fact teams and players like those on both Iowa and South Carolina are the face of the sport. That face is beautiful.
Coach Staley and Coach Bluder great job. Winning basketball games is great, teaching young women to win at life is so much bigger and all these young ladies speak volumes for the great job you are doing and you have always done. Thank you 😊, the sport is great, and you are all the face of sheer joy and the image of true sportsmanship that makes it that way.
Winning is a tough thing to do, being humble and keeping defeat wholly in perspective is an even higher bar. For everything else there is South Carolina and Iowa and the fine young woman who represent for these 2 great programs.

Congratulations to Iowa! South Carolina will always be Champions and Dawn Staley has established a program that will continue to be at or near the top. Dawn Staley is a class act and so are her players. South Carolina has some of the most passionate, dedicated WBB fans in the country and that's awesome for the sport. But what a game! What a player in Caitlin Clark! And go LSU!!
These women exhibited nothing but class in a postgame interview that had to be very tough for them. Still a great season and as Dawn Staley said it’s tough to lose a game like that, but it’s all about building strong young women who will ultimately be successful in whatever comes next for them. There are no “losers” here.
They will both succeed in life, good young ladies.

I love my gamecocks, but it seemed the starters were off their game last night with the exception of Zia. LOTS of missed shots and lapses defensively on the pick-n-roll giving up several easy buckets to Iowa made the difference. Raven should have started shooting from outside earlier in the game to draw defenders out of the paint. That was not even close to playing to our full potential and we still had a shot to win this game. Great season though. Great run. Next year should be just as good or better.

I just watched UConn’s press conference. Geno’s Best player was on the bench in foul trouble basically the whole game. In his press conference, he said nothing about it and nothing about the officials. Staley could learn a few things.

Iowa played an outstanding game, have to give credit where credit is due, sincerely a UCONN fan. This sort of thing happens to gest teams, look up the 1990 UNLV Running Rebels losing to Duke in the Final Four after crushing Duke in the championship game by 30 the year before. My Uconn team losing to George Mason in the Elite 8 in 2006 as a 1 seed, or even my Uconn Women losing to Mississippi Sate the year before. When you are on top, it comes with having a target on your back every week. They will be back. Today, Iowa was the better team, and color has nothing to do with it. That Iowa team can ball!

Not quite sure why there were references to fouls not being called both ways. Iowa was called for 18, SC for 20 - not exactly a big disparity. Iowa shot 14 free throws, SC shot 13. The difference was perhaps that Iowa made all 14, where SC went 9 for 13.

These young ladies on this team conduct themselves with dignity and professionalism. I have never seen them throw a punch, cheap shot, or celebrate a great play over an opposing player. This comes from parenting at home and from the coaching staff. Whoever is calling this team street fighters and thugs doesnt know the true definition of those terms.

TN Men's basketball got accused for playing rough and "bullying teams" and Rick Barnes handled it with class. I didn't feel like Coach Staley did the same. It seemed like she turned it into racism and that is never good for anyone! The players however were very graceful in their interviews.

What I'm about to say is in no way an attempt to diminish what South Carolina has accomplished. But it highlights the accomplishments of those dominant UCONN teams from years ago. I think they had multiple RIDICULOUS winning streaks - i want to say like a few close to 100 games in a row. Maybe I'm embarrassing myself by being wrong but it just goes to die just how difficult the game is at this level. So, salute to SC.
Also, i hope this is a learning moment for Boston. I just became a fan. I know she's still young and will continue to learn and mature, but the best of the best make no excuses. I know emotions are still raw - but you got beat. Fair and square. I know they were physical, but that's YOUR style as well. You just got beat at your own game. Don't blame the refs. Hey back in the lab and use that as motivation to become even more dominant.
I know old great players are thrown around quite a bit. But I think this comparison really applies here. Look at what getting beat down and damn near blatantly cheated against did for MJ. I'm not going to pretend like I watched all the postgame press conferences with the Pistons were damn near murdering him and came up with a strategy to physically manhandle him by specifically breaking the rules. But what I do remember is him using that anger to force him to lead his team into the weight room that offseason.
Coach Staley, I’m so proud of you as a person and as a Coach! I personally never watched the Women Basketball games until you introduced us to your team and your methods of the game! It’s like we’re watching the guys playing! The games are interesting! Not boring!!! And you brought the grounds to the games too! But I have to say this about the Elite 8 game Coach, because you’re too good to say it (God is still working on me! 😅)! Those refs were obviously calling fouls on the Ladies Gamecocks mores than Iowa’s girls. Fouls they should have called on Iowa they didn’t! And I’m not the only one who’s saying this! We’re pissed about it here in South Carolina! We felt robbed of the chance to go to the Final Four bc they wanted Caitlin to make it to the finals as well as a Cinderella team! Our Ladies are no thugs, monkeys, or whatever they’re saying in the media! They’re gifted players and they can’t stand it that’s all.

For the first time, SC was taken out of their game. Got to give it to Kaitlin, she was not intimidated. It takes a team, but Kaitlin put on a one girl show. Zia Cooke was the only SC player who came with her A game. On defense, SC must learn to play side to side defense. You can't let opposing players dribble around you and also giving up the baseline. SC must send at least one player to the boards after a shot. You can't get 28 offensive rebounds and not make the layups. Being 6'7" means nothing if you don't use it. Got to give it to Ms Clark, she set the tone from start to finish. I am a SC and UCONN fan and now an IOWA fan. SC, UCONN, lOWA, LSU, and other teams that made the final 8 and four. This was a great game. Congrats to all the lady ballers.

The respect those players - Aliyah, raven and I imagine all her team - have for coach Staley is impressive. You can see the genuine respect, even reverence those young ladies have in their words and emotions when speaking about their coach. That’s a beautiful thing to see how she instills confidence, respect and appreciation in them, especially after a loss ending their undefeated season. Coach said she’s a sore but gracious loser. Her tremendous temperament in a loss clearly preparing her players for success in life beyond their playing days.
