    Love that farm dog! One day, when I have enough land, I'll get another golden retriever. Very good dog as long as they have enough room to stretch their legs.

    Ahh, finally a garlic companion plant video. Saved and liked! Everyone says to me that garlic hates competition and don't plant it with anything, but that goes against one of my gardening principles which is intercropping. I am so glad that I found this video. And what a GOOD DOG you have 😃

    Thank you for posting. I am in the US, and we are tearing ourselves apart. Not making a political statement, just stating a fact. Former friends are now "kill you" enemies. It is awful. So appreciate, what you do. An escape. The wife watches HGTV, I watch veg vids, in separate rooms. She comes in teasingly accusing me of watching porn, all I say is yes - "Vegetable Pornography" - then looks at it and says, "Not another 5 gallon planter!" Thanks again, you do a great job.

    You have a video on storing your garlic cloves in the freezer to plant out in the fall. I followed it step by step. I froze 21 Russian Red Hard neck Garlic cloves. I planted them out with 5 other varieties of garlic and I'm checking them often like you do the mail box when you are expecting money. So far I don't see any signs of life but I'm trusting the process. You know your stuff. I'll give you a follow up comment when I harvest in about 7 months. ;)

    Garlic, Roses and Nasturtiums all love each other. You can cut some of the green garlic leaf tips to toss into a salad or whatever. The darker nasturtium flowers are sweetest to eat. The yellow ones attract aphids which helps protect your roses. A finely shredded leaf will give your tossed salads a tasty, mustard flavoured zing. Garlic is a natural anti-biotic. So good for so much...

    I keep my refrigerator at 34 deg. F and found 2 sleeves of garlic that started sprouting just a few days ago. Is it worth giving it a go and planting them? Some factors to consider, I live in zone 9a (Henderson NV) yesterday we topped out over 70 deg. F for the high and lows are from the mid 40's to 50's. The garlic is store bought product of Mexico purchased at La Bonita Supermarket. I figure it may be worth a try because it is hardy enough that it sprouted in the cold dark refrigerator at near freezing temperatures and if I plant it now it should be able to establish roots (the bees are still active on my shrubs in the frond yard is how my weather is). First frost in my zip code is Dec 10 and last frost Feb 10. I in no way think I'd get a super big bulb harvest out of it, but I think it may be an opportunity to temper the garlic for some excellent future harvests. Please give me your thoughts on this, going to plant it today, I'm thinking I should also be sure and plant it with the sprouts above the soil and hope it roots. Any advise is appreciated, my first planting. I also have some organic cloves in the freezer on Nov 11 hoping to plant them around Dec 20 or so. Thanks again.

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely Charles! If it has already sprouted, get it into some moist potting mix so it can set the bulb and start producing those roots! Its all about the roots at this point. Get it started inside, then either harden it off in a sheltered area outside, or keep it growing indoors until March for a massive bulb harvest early summer!

    Binging on your garlic growing videos since I’m a first timer, so first off thanks so much …love your approach and gardening presentation. My question is that some of your other videos state a good 1x watering or monthly/bi weekly depending on climate. Most all the companion plantings listed here require weekly watering. I’m in 9b Central FL and am 8wks into vernalization (I think maybe 1 more week to go to hit daily mid 70s before I plant the garlic) and watched your warm weather garlic video as well. 1) Do you think that’s too soon, or should I wait few more weeks for daily high of 60s? 2) I want to plant garlic into my existing carrot, greens and radish beds but those get weekly and sometimes 2x a Wk waterings. Will all that water rot them out, or should I just plant separately at this stage? Much appreciated

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey evelyn, thanks for watching! Plant your Garlic when its the coldest in your area. So if its going to drop more, wait for that. As for watering, its not that the Garlic can't take the moisture...heck, we'll get rain here 3x a week from now until April....its just that every watering washes your soil. It washes the organic matter out and it dilutes the nutrients. If you are already coping with that with other crops in the same area, your Garlic will be perfectly fine. :-)

      @@TheRipeTomatoFarms Wow… you have no idea how much I appreciate you replying to a new question on a video you posted a year ago… that, speaks volumes. Your already a great teacher, but that move also creates even more respect and fan loyalty… lifetime subscriber friend :) Thanks for clarifying about the moisture and companion planting… I totally get it now. Our coldest aka first frost date is in 3~4 Wk’s so I’ll wait to plant my refrigerated garlic. That would make 3mths vernalization but won’t risk devernalization now, which I was worried about here in Florida (last night 43, today mid 70s… yuckie for garlic) 😂 Thx again!

      @@evelyn247 Thanks so much! Very appreciated. For vernalization, 3 months is definitely enough. The bulbs should be ready for planting and you'll be on your way!

    Can garlic only be planted in the fall?

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can plant it whenever you like, but to get the biggest bulbs to set, it usually has to over winter in the ground and be harvested the following summer.

    According to Growveg ( who base compa ion plant recommendations only on peer reviewed studies) Garlic and Strawberries do get along....I am guessing garlic serves as a pest detterrant in this case.
    Could you please share any further info of how garlic stunts growth of Strawberries?
    With so many conflicting info on companion planting...it really gets confusing.
